UNC took an RPI building road trip and is in a bit of trouble. UAB is clinging to 4 point lead under 5 minutes. UNC started playing defense about 8 minutes ago but keeps missing bunnies around the basket. UAB is a fun team to watch because they just attack, attack, attack. UAB isn't that good, but UNC is bored enough that they could lose this. UAB is taking a lot of wild shots and out of control drives, but just playing hard goes a long way sometimes.

They apparently don't call goaltending in Alabama, because UNC has pinned about 3 shots against the backboard and none of them were goaltending.

Still a 4 point lead with 2 minutes left, but I can't imagine the refs will let UAB win...

And there it is. A jump stop followed by a switched pivot foot and a tie up by UNC gets called as a foul on UAB. UAB got it back though.

Exciting finish for sure, no matter who wins...

Well that should do it. UAB up 5 points with 6 seconds to go. Nice win for them and not a good loss for UNC...

Timeout with 1.4 seconds left to diagram the four point play.

when UConn was looking for another guard while Bazz and Boat were still in the NBA early entry decision making process, Dom Amore floated Chad Frazier's name out there as someone they were looking at at the Juco level. It never went any further than that and ultimately Purvis got the 'ship as Bazz and Boat stayed on, but looking at Frazier's numbers he's been very impressive so far against some good comp, including today against UNC.

UNC should fall out of the rankings with losses to UAB and Belmont.

its not easy to go on the road in December, but that's a bad loss for UNC. they were an 8 point favorite

UAB lost to Temple by 21.

And Temple lost to Clemson, Kent St and Towson. The transitive property is great in math class, it doesn't play well in college basketball.

UAB was created in 1978 by Gene Bartow...they went to a sweet 16 year three, elite eight year four...701 wins in their short history...14 NCAAs, 11 NITs...hope they do well in CUSA.

Yah, I know, wasn't arguing that Temple is great or better than UNC. But I think we need to keep in mind that there are a lot of results which get noted here as meaningful, but when you look at it in context, you wonder how meaningful it is. We shrug off a UCF win over Miami or a SMU win over Virginia as underwhelming, but then you look today at Miami beating Arizona St., winner over Marquette, and I tend to tink the middle of the road teams are a lot closer than we give credit for. We sit around here talking about the depth of some conferences, and at the end of the day, the mediocre are simply mediocre everywhere. Creighton just went down to George Washington, Butler lost to LSU. There's a whole mix of teams in the middle trying to find themselves.

We kinda had to....Virginia won that game. And Miami stinks.

Yeah letting the season breathe until January makes too much sense.

As for conferences it's getting flatter - they have some good teams and some horrible teams. It's splitting hairs taking them on average.

LOL, the announcers of this Memphis - Okie State game were touting SMU earlier for beating Virginia. Miami stinks, yes. That's my point. somehow they beat Arizona St. tonight. And yeah, I know Arizona St stinks too, but that doesn't stop them from beating Marquette.

I actually give them credit for making that trip. I wonder if it was one of those senior going home games.

The UAB coach was an assistant under Roy, so Roy did him a solid in coming to his place.

UAB coach was an assistant to Roy at Kansas and UNC.

UNC can't shoot. They are missing their two best shooters, suspended. They also are horrible at the FT line and yesterday they gave up 21 O boards. They just are not a top 25 team. Could be a long year in the ACC for them if they don't get Harrison and MacDonald back.

In college basketball, there is a big RPI reward for going on the road. You actually see a fair amount of these oddball road trips for that reason. I suspect that Roy wanted to do one, and picked UAB because of Haase.

Dook and UNC never play well away from their comfort zone and on the road. That's why USUALLY the Dance is the great equalizer unless you have to play UNC in NC, Dook in DC NJ or even Boston. Not good to play Mich in Detroit or Bruins in LA.We did OK playing Zona and SDSU in Cal though. JC always said it's the venue and the matchups. Side note!! Cuse not only had Melo but got to play TWO home games in Albany in 03. Perpetual pet peeve of mine, stated MANY times on this board.:)
