The U.S. vs Canada semifinal is underway. Neither team can make a shot and Canada is on pace for 40 turnovers, but it's relatively close at this point

I think it definitely means "something" but I'm not so sure what it means.
UCONN has room on the roster for both Qadence and Madison IMO because their skills are rather complementary as you have correctly described. I can easily dismiss the Booker to TN visits because we were led to believe the same thing about Ashlynn Shade's multiple visit there which turned out to be insignificant. What may be harder to ignore is that UCONN was relatively late (started in May 2022) in expressing interest in Qadance as documented in a recent article.
BTW I really like the Booker/Pippin analogy not just as a point forward but also for their defensive versatility like being able to expertly lock down PGs, PFs and any position in between.
I’m ok with not getting Booker as long as we get Strong in 24!

Mikaylah Williams is 1-11 from the field. Watkins is 3-13.

Four of the five UConn POI have had really good games.

Williams has been the definition of major disappointment. For a "top recruit" you have to start knocking down wide open shots. Can't understand how she shot the way she has in many of the tournaments this past year but can't put a ball through the hoop now.
In addition to the poor shooting Mikayla Williams is also getting exposed and has been sloppy on the defensive end of the floor. This is reminiscent of Samantha Brunelle in 2018 who forgot how to shoot the basketball.

She will ride the bench in college until she can play defense properly....

It's an interesting turn of events. Superior defense was what some regarded as the difference between M. Williams and Watkins. Now it seems to be pointing in the opposite direction.
Fwiw, I heard that Jada Williams missed the last 2 games because of a knee injury. Don't know how serious it is.

I wouldn't be concerned. I never judge any U16 or U17 players on their defense. Team USA presses a lot and the games are lopsided. She is athletic with good size. Mulkey and Starkey will teach her how to play defense.

I don't worry at all tbh, all these athletes clean up significantly at the next level when they enter college, especially playing under some of the top prospective programs. She will probably come off the bench as a freshmen and start the following year.

Defense is such a lost art at the high school level. That to me is one of the biggest adjustments for any HS recruit going to college. Sure many of them are talented and can score the ball exceptionally well but defense is one of those things that takes time to adjust to for many. It makes me appreciate the ones who excel at it during their HS careers. We all get caught up in who scores and how many they score but you're impact on all the other stat lines are just as significant. Geno said it best...

Not nearly so disappointed in losing M. Williams now. After the 3x3 tournament she got inordinate hype. Overall, I’d still take Jadyn Donovan over her.

I really like Prosper. She is a little raw but she has all the tools. I hope SC is recruiting her.

USA averages 96.5ppg
Spain averages 71.3ppg

USA fg% 43.7%
Spain fg% 41.7%

USA 3pt fg% 27.1%
Spain 31.3%

USA FT% 66.9%
Spain 59.8%

USA rebounds pg 58.5
Spain rebounds pg 42.5

USA assists pg 25.5
Spain assists pg 18.8

USA Turnovers pg 14.8
Spain Turnovers pg 19.7

Spains best players are
#10 Awa Fam Thiam 11.2ppg, 10.2ppg (C)
#4 Iyana Martin 13.3ppg and 5.8 apg (PG)
#13 Carla Viegas Segura 11.8ppg 1.2 rpg (SF)

I like the play of "Iyana"(they use her first name on her jersey), however, she is very left hand dominant. She needs to do more with the right hand to move up to a good US college.

Like Williams, Maya Moore once struggled playing for USA Basketball. Playing for the U18 team Maya shot 35% and 14% from 3. That caused some to ask whether Maya would shoot the ball well enough in college. LOL I'd still take Williams over most of the other players on Team USA. BTW, I'm not saying Williams is the next Maya!

Donovan reminds me of Kalana Greene before Kalana's knee was shredded (ACL, LCL and meniscus). Kalana had a nice career but was never the same player. Kalana developed a nice mid-range jump shot which Donovan will need to develop to stop defenses from playing off her.

Too much Dominique Malonga for Canada to handle. France's 6'6" center scored 28 points (11 of 19) and had 17 rebounds to edge Canada 84-82.
Best big in the tournament ?
I think so.

Prosper did everything she could at the end.
