Tyler Polley returning to UConn

He was drilling those exact combos in game during that hot stretch in January. I think there is potential to continue to use that in game, but agree yes running off screens needs to become his bread and butter.
Absolutely, but then had a huge game stretch with zeros. When all you can do is shoot threes, its usually all or nothing. Needs to develop three levels of scoring and getting to the free throw line, so they if he is struggling from three, he can still produce and help us.

Gets overlooked but he came back after a quick recovery from an ACL tear this year. TP was also playing his best ball ever before the ACL injury. He was inconsistent and overall had a disappointing year, but he could be a lot better this upcoming season.

Yeah, I understand percentages. It means if he goes 50 for 50 in 10 games then 0 for 125 in 30 games he's a 40% shooter who helps us 25% of the time and kills us 75% of the time.

Polley was under 40% 13 times this season
He was over 40% 7 times
At 40% twice.

Understand what I was getting at? For a 5th year senior, I want someone who helps us in a lot more games, not someone who just averages 40%.
ummm I might be misinterpreting your example there...but 50/175 = 29%....so maybe keep working on those percentages?

even in games where he's misfiring, which is more often than we'd like, he still stretches the defense and provides more space for sanogo and whaley in the post. Polley is a net positive for the team next year and anyone who thinks otherwise is that word that @August_West 's fiance won't let him say

2 points:
1. He doesn't go anyplace with those between the legs dribbles. If a guy is standing there, he is still there.
2. He picks up his dribble and goes sideways with 2 feet that doesn't seem like it would qualify as a jump stop. Weren't some of those moves traveling? I couldn't make up my mind.

.-.
I’ll never be convinced that the gather step isn’t a travel, I don’t care what the rule says

Those little two foot hops to the left or right after picking up the ball - yeah, that used to be traveling 100%.

Now it's not only not called anymore, it's deliberately taught.

It should still be traveling. Now get off my lawn.

auggie-doggies girl carries around his cajones in a little purse, to make sure that he ain't using them when she ain't around. lol.

Glad to see Tyler working out, but he will never use those dribble combinations in a game to create his own shot. Needs to work on coming off screens quicker and creating a midrange game.
We badly need guys who can create their own shot. I think if he works at it (like he is) he probably will use it in a game?
But he also does need to work on coming off screens at scoring at all 3 levels, like you said.

I'm pretty sure he can, and probably is, working on all of these things.

There is no way that yellow pole can guard this kid! Nice to see TP working hard, getting ready. Great kid.
That pole needs to get in the weight room and fill out. Then it can become a chair.

.-.
Needs to learn how to pump fake & go to the basket & finish- he continues to give the defense no reason to be worried about him penetrating & going to the hoop- until he starts to do that he will continue to be a one dimensional shooter.

Looks like the yellow pole was guarding against the drive.

Wait. Are you talking about Tyler or August?
Hey!!!! Mr one dimensional shooter is engaged to someone 17 years younger who goes to games with him. I figure we end this make fun of august turn of events in this thread before it gets out of hand, and get back to how great Tyler is next season.

Perception is such a crazy thing.

All this time I thought you were a big sloppy fat guy, carting around roast beef and cheddars, and slurping on Big Gulps through a straw, sitting on the sofa listening to old Grateful Dead, idly scratching with one hand at your torn socks. I am just so wrong, and I apologize to you and the general populace for my somewhat discriminatory description.

No, that’s pretty much him.

I can’t claim fake news on those takes.

@karstenkibbe I was a fan of yours in HS. You rocked the SHS gym . I’m Same class as your younger bro . Love seeing you on here , I won’t say more , but people would love to hear your stories!

1. Yeah, those are moves he used during his hot streak this year and basically no other time. It's probably good to have in his bag just in case. I would imagine his trainer put those videos up because it makes Tyler look like he's developing into James Harden (which he isn't). Having him run around "screens" (cones) and practice hitting jumpers with a left/right foot, right/left foot, and hop, is the kind of stuff professional teams look for. It's small but good defenders take you out of your footwork rhythm like that. Then doing the same with his 1 dribble pull-ups and transition 3s. Everyone in the world knows Tyler is going to make a bunch of money overseas shooting 3s and almost only 3s. The more ways he can do it the better.

2. No travels that I can see. By the book he hasn't "picked up" the ball until he's put the foot down before the hop.

TP could become very dangerous if he could create space off of the dribble to get his shot off instead of catch and shoot.

Put a little action in those puppies with some shake and bake.

Truth be told... I’m not Karsten. Took his name as my boneyard handle because of the simple, yet profound impact he had on me as a UConn fan. In 1988, I was a senior in high school in NYC and a rabid UConn fan - despite not having access to televised games in my area. WSTC wasn’t yet carrying games on radio, and I had to aim my antenna just right to get a fuzzy WTIC signal. My best access was a two day old copy of the Courant and Ken Davis’ byline.

So on two different spring nights, with my Fairfield Stags fanboy best friend in tow, I walked up to the box office at MSG and bought 10th row foul line seats for $18 and watched a two-season walk-on (who officially played one solitary minute in his UConn career) root as hard and demonstratively for his teammates from the bench as I have ever seen a basketball player support his teammates. From the moment that NIT final ended and I watched the late Jeff King climb atop the basket, Karsten Kibbe earned the total and absolute respect of this UConn fan. Really no surprise that Steve Pikiell mentioned Kibbe in his introductory Rutgers presser and Calhoun has mentioned Karsten on occasion in some “remember when” articles. Class act.

Wow that’s awesome. I didn’t think anyone remembered him , but I went to HS with him. So I just assumed someone with that handle had to be him. He dominated CCIL in HS, which earned him walk on under Calhouns first years. . Great player, great family. Great handle. You win my award for obscure UConn players handles !

Is Steve Carrell nice in real life?

If we ran more transition fast break basketball, the 3 dagger could be Tyler’s signature shot. For some reason that’s his must relax and natural 3 ball shot.
