Transfer Portal Starting to Load

this tweet is from a college HC

How stupid. Just because they sue doesn’t mean they’ll win. the ncaa still needs to justify any additional year of eligibility they approve of.

We don’t really know what is going on behind the scenes. AK could be going pro and there is someone in the wings. Along with other scenarios. We just don’t know. Chill pill time.
For oh so many years, the "he should come back" chant was led by homer fans wishing that a kid would give up NBA dollars to come back to __________ university. It's obviously not like that anymore. AK's case is a bit unique. We all watched this season. He's not getting first round $. He surely is getting 7 figures to return. Now, staying can actually have positive monetary implications and I think that is AK's case.

Maybe hard for him to swallow? One thing Dan Hurley and squad are good at is being brutally honest.

IMHO, he's back.

Can I get in the portal?

I'd likely need a waiver, as it's been nearly 2 decades since the clock ran out on my standard 4 years of eligibility, but I'm not going to let that stop me from trying.

If a school wants you bad enough they’ll sue :)

He will be gone before Karaban makes up his mind. Like any good 4 will be..

Enough with the Karaban deserves the time he wants. He’s starting to hurt the team.
Anyone ignorant enough to not think it hurts is wearing blue glasses.

Sorry but I have a completely different take on this.

The portal is VERY fluid. Good helpful players are entering every day and will continue to do so. Cam Spencer entered late.

Karaban not announcing leaves flexibility and my guess is he's being a team player. If he announces he's coming back it eliminates UConn from likely being a destination for any top player who has recently entered or will enter in the coming days. If a better fit than Alex is out there or enters than the coaches and Alex may make the decision that he should move on. If the right guy isn't out there, he can come back.

The notion he doesn't know what he's doing or the coaches don't know or that we may lose a guy we want is ludicrous. They are in Warde Manuel mode (monitoring the situation). Unlike Warde, they truly are.

I’m really torn with him. I mean he’s a scumbag dating back years but…

On one hand, he’s been paying players forever so I’m glad the playing field is somewhat leveled. Although he’s also making a mockery of the NCAA and basically showing everyone that all you need is one big donor willing to bankroll your team and you have free reign to do whatever you want since there seem to be no rules about anything anymore.

On the ‘udder hand’ (shoutout @ClifSpliffy), as we Gen-Xers say, “don't hate the player, hate the game”. Until someone slaps him on the wrist, he’s not stopping and I can’t hate it.
There needs to be a yearly NIL cap.

Didn't UConn recruit him? I think they offered but not sure if he ever visited. Would he come east? The 3 isn't a need but would love to have him in Storrs. If Karaban leaves he plays the 3 and Stewart the 4. The 3 freshmen wings and Ross would not be happy.

We need a PF and a backup center.

True. But if Karaban doesn't come back they're only at 9 scholarships. You'd have plenty of scholarships to give out. Someone (think it was Dave Borges) said UConn wants a PF who could also slide over to the 5 as a back up. So they're looking to fill the needs you pointed out with 1 guy.

If Karban doesn't come back we will be at 10 scholarships.

Wow, that is shocking. Not sure why he would do that. Duke pays better than almost anyone and they have Kon's starting spot open, no?
Khamenia probably would have started over him at the 3, but still weird. Sounds like he's going to Miami though so he should still get paid very well

Miami vs dook. Two southern private schools filled with rich northeast kids who couldn't get in to better schools.

You gotta think anyone kid with a choice between those two picks Miami. Sure, dook is more highly rated but the U is still a damn good degree.
