Transfer Portal Starting to Load

UK fan forum says his pops is a pain in the butt to deal with and from what they linked his pops doesn't seem like such a good guy.
UConn was on him a long time. Our staff wasn't all that scared and it was clear that Acaden was likely going to have to wait for PT (which was likely a decisive factor).

Who knows? It is possible that Dan Hurley was overestimating himself here.

2 championships, four final fours in 21 years. Oh and the hall of fame…. But continue.
And UConn has 5 chips in the past 21 years with only like a dozen 5* players. KU has had dozens of 5* burger boys that were drafted in the lottery in that same timeframe so self has underachieved by comparison. calamari even more so

How does Jaron Pierre of Jacksonville St have another year of eligibility? I looked at his stats and he played his 4th year this past season. I could understand if he pulled a Nijel Pack or Bryce Hopkins (sitting out a year due to "injury"). But Pierre played 4 years. I don't even see a waiver request for this dude.

Best I can tell he is in the same class as Andre Jackson and so gets 4 years plus the 20-21 COVID year. He didn't play in 23-24, so he has one more year left. Basically 20-21 doesn't count for anyone, and he had a redshirt year in 2023-2024. So he has officially only played three years.

I wasn't comparing at all... We've been extraordinarily fortunate to have the incredible success we've had. Just find it mind-boggling when people criticize other coaches in the Hall of Fame with multiple championships. Used to happen on here with Roy, K, Pitino, etc.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Demary ended his recruitment early and picked which places made sense to him to visit. He pretty much had a similar type list of schools inquiring about him. See below when he entered the portal. He was one of the top 2 or 3 guards in the portal at the time.

Glad we beat Providence. Was worried for a while.

Continuity vs portal talent upgrade, that is the question. The value of the first leans on intangibles, which are hard to quantify.
They both have intangibles that are hard to quantify.

Interesting he stepped down a level. I thought he looked pretty good by end of the year for Xavier. I guess they were bringing in some good bigs.

UConn is looking at Malachi Smith. I won't reveal exactly where they are with him out of respect for Storrs Central, but if you have a subscription there you can read the forum labeled "2025 MBB Transfer Portal Thread". I am not sure if it has already been revealed somewhere else here on the BoneYard.
I would assume positive?

We definitely have a skewed perspective here at UConn. Winning titles seems rather easy.

We forget the torture of not being able to reach a Final Four despite dominating the Big East in the 90s, while the general public was slagging Calhoun for not getting UConn there.

Every Maryland player has transferred, entered the portal, graduated or declared for the Draft. So it looks like Maryland's 2025-2026 roster will be made up entirely of new players and coaches...
Something you can expect these days when a major program goes through a coaching change, ala UK last year. I suppose Calipari was able to keep Brazille as an exception.

Well it makes sense. The players are choosing the relationship with the coach more than anything else which includes the school, it's facilities, etc. Of course this assumes the NIL/revenue sharing salary is comparable.

There were some posters on here interested him as a possible AK replacement if AK went pro

Obviously good fit and player, but I do think we’ll look for a defensively oriented Wing/4 if Karaban leaves.

I did a deep dive on this kid by watching 20 seconds of youtube highlights and was sold as a potential replacement at the 4. I also like that fat kid from George Mason as a big off the bench.

#grindingtape
You really need a min of 30 seconds to get a good feel about a player. I‘d give it another 10 seconds and then see if you’re still sold

Likewise I think coaches like starting with “their own” guys. There is a mental element to a player being recruited by the coach from both ends. IU is another example this year.

Good back up! Probably be even a better player with a good staff!
Yes, Boakye would be an ideal back up. Hopefully, the "do not contact" tag means "contact my agent" as opposed "I already got a school I am going to sign with, don't bother me".

Interesting convo on Rupp
