Tourney - Round 3

I want to know if there is a Notre dame fan on the board that thinks they should replace the head coach.

Would love to know what happened with ND down the stretch. Very very bizarre. Seems like there’s gotta be more.
If you happen to have a hazmat suit handy, put it on and wade into the ND fanboard, they've got lots to say about it.

Happy for Hailey Van Lith her pro career looked dead at the end of last year.
A few years ago there was a post ncaa game incident where the DePaul player started an argument with her.

Hailey Van Lith was very mature in the interviews. She basically said “I have no beef. Other player was just upset after losing. I would be upset too.”

That’s the kind of thing DT would say. Was very impressed with her.

Don’t remember if it was here or elsewhere, but I saw someone voice an opinion that there might have been some discord about who was the “star” of the team and it might have thrown off the chemistry.

We are going to have to have some big conversations about Niele Ivey if this result holds.
Next year gonna be worse
Maybe, but based on what? They've made it to Sweet 16 every season. There are others in the ACC who can't claim that as a first time coach. This reaction after this game initially, I get, but looking at the overall situation it may be a rash decision.

Yes, there is an expectation with ND fans but she's also has had to manage depleted rosters since taking over from McGraw. And who is out there that would be seen as the better option?

I'm not saying she shouldn't be scrutinized. There are things that should be taken into consideration with respect to her situation however.

Well ….
I think it is pretty surprising. Miles, Westbeld, Citron, they are all done. Ivey still can’t get out of the sweet 16. Hannah Hidalgo is looking a little overrated too.

And I think the South Carolina draw got easier. I do. TCU beat Notre Dame twice, but I think Notre dame could have bothered South Carolina. I don’t think TCU would have a chance against them.

Disappointing year for ND, with the injuries they had last year and lack of depth no shame in bowing out in the Sweet 16 to Oregon State but add Miles back to that group, bring in the recruits they did through the portal/HS this year had to be a Final Four run at the minimum. Team fell apart down the stretch of the regular season and now another Hiladgo stinker in the Sweet 16.

Lordy. Hidalgo 3-19 and CItron 4-15. FG%, 3PT%, and FT% were 32, 20, and 75% for ND, and 50, 42, 92% for TCU.

I am incredibly impressed at how Hailey Van Lith comported herself (hi Doris!) today throughout the whole game. Even more impressed with her sharing her mental health journey, and here's hoping that it helps other players realize that asking for help and not trying to go it alone is totally ok. Her performance this year takes away all the ick from last season at YKW.

Hidalgo, Citron and Miles: 10/44 FG and 2/9 3FG. Ballgame.
Stunned that they only took 9. When they were down 7 with a minute to go, why weren’t they at least trying 3s? They have capable shooters.
For the 4.5 minutes I watched they had no energy or fight. Very very unexpected.

MM left her with almost nothing and she very quickly took this team back to the top tier — easily the best post-coaching legend performance.
But this ND team had NC-level talent. Something went very wrong.

Summary? :)
Nothing definitive but the "spirit of the room" from what I recall was mostly speculative chatter about chemistry problems involving some of their better known players. Some also taking a dim view of their HC. Wondering how they seemed to lose the script since mid-February after looking like a title favorite.

I’m on the verge of agreeing with @Tonyc that this is the year for UConn. The chips appear to be falling into place for Paige. ND was one of the three teams I thought posed the daunting challenge to UConn.
Lauren Betts on line 1 saying “15/16 from the field.”

Not gonna be easy for anyone. For the first time in memory I think anyone in the elite 8 will be capable of winning.

Not disputing that part. But hot seat chatter for the 2025-2026 seems a little early to me.

We will all be shocked if TCU wins this game, right?
Notre Dame exceeded my pre-tournament expectations.
