I was really impressed with Duke's Alexis Jones and TAMU's frosh guard (forget her name) last year.

Arguments can be made for various players at different positions. At point, I believe Duke has two of the top five in the country. Not sure what Jewel Loyd is classified as, but she's got to be one of the best wings. Hard to believe she received no votes. Marshall at Georgia Tech is also really good.

I'm just a bit biased, but KML is the best "small forward" in WCBB....Alyssa Thomas is a "power forward" in my book...she is 6'2" and a wide body...she had 349 rebounds last year and took 14 three pointers...sounds like she makes a living in the lane..!!

KML outscored her 670 pts to 640 pts, even w/ having to share the ball w/ Stewie, Hartley, Dolson, ect... KML shot 52.8% for the year vs 45.2% for Thomas...;)

ESPN says Thomas is "an impossible matchup for opposing defenses." Against UConn last season she went 2-12 and had 6 pts.....I guess UConn did the impossible....

I love this comment about Alyssa Thomas: "An impossible matchup for opposing defenses." Well now. If that's true, then Kelly Faris accomplished the impossible.

Against UConn last season, Thomas was playing out of position due to the multiple injuries of her teammates. She was forced to play somewhat of a point forward role and not off the ball, where she should be. Also, defenses could key on her. This season with the return of the guards, she'll get back to her natural role and yes, she will be a tough out for defenders. Players like Lauren Mincy will have to be respected, so Thomas will not have to play one against 3 or 4. KF did a very good job against her last season, but she had plenty of help.

justa...w/ respect, Thomas scored 25 pts in the game before UConn and 20 in the game after. That's 45 points or 22.5 per game. In between, at UConn she scored 6. It was the defense....;) In any case, she is not "an impossible matchup for opposing defenses." We will see on Nov. 15th.... Go Huskies..!!

Edit: UConnCat correctly notes Maryland played UConn twice..(see below)... Thomas had 28 pts before UConn, only 13 in the UConn game.

I looked at last years stats for Dolson and Williams.

In almost three less minutes a game, Dolson shoots better and passes better than Williams.

Dolson is every bit the defender, rebounder and shot blocker as Williams.

There is nothing that Williams does better. Top two centers, so I'm not taking anything away from Williams. But Dolson is better.

I believe it was two years ago that Kiah schooled Williams in the post.

I know Williams gets a lot of love from the prognosticators, but she is not the top center in WCBB. Stef gets my vote.

Maryland played UConn twice last season. Thomas shot a combined 6-28, scored a combined 19 pts, with 10 turnovers. Kelly did a great job on her in both games.

The fact that Jewell Loyd did not even receive votes is shocking. IMO she is on equal footing with everyone but McBride, who gets the nod for experience, toughness and a history of making big plays.

So did Chelsea Gray..... held her to 4-19 shooting in their match-up in Cameron. Cant remember if Thomas gave Gray any credit for her tremendous defense or not.

KML and SD are starter are you serious? i would take them over AT and the duke C every day. i mean by the time KML leaves she might be top 5 best ever to put on a uconn jersey. to not have her as a starter is ridiculous

Funny, I thought that her ability to play point forward was what everyone said made her great.

Maryland played Uconn twice last year and she scored 19 points on 6-28 shooting. Uconn didn't double on her last year.

They play again a week from Friday. I expect Maryland to be better. But I expect Uconn to be better too.

Speaking of Gray, I don't remember if she gave any credit to the Uconn players that defended her into a 1-6, 2 point, 4 TO game last year.

devils advocate here: Williams blocks more shots (107 including at least 0ne in every game she has played) vs 58 : pulled down 264 rebs vs 182: had 41 steals vs 40: higher scoring avg 15.2 vs 13.6: charged with 78 TO vs 86.

Dolson is the better center in your estimation but lets not say Williams does NOTHING better than Stephanie.

Thanks, Cat! Since I hardly ever see Thomas play except when they play UConn, that is exactly why I always wonder why Thomas is so highly ranked. I should have known the answer is Kelly.
