Honorable mentions—Ray Allen’s off balance runner to put the Huskies up for good vs Georgetown in the ‘96 Big East tourney championship game; Rip Hamilton’s game winning follow up shot to beat Washington in the ‘98 Sweet 16.
I’ve probably said this before, but I don’t like this one. That team was flawed and Ray’s shot was a bandaid on what I felt was a doomed upcoming NCAA run. Georgetown controlled that game and we squeaked out a last second win.

I think it was actually a 12-0 run. They were down 75-67 with under 3 minutes left and then went on the 12-0 run before the buzzer beater 40 foot heave from Duhon. I was there and to this day I still say that game took 5 years off my life.

They won 79-78 so yeah 100%.

I mistakenly called it 8-0 run when I just meant 8 point deficit.

That run specifically that started with the Anderson corner 3 was imminent dread to a spark of hope to HOLY F2)&&)(/,()&@!;4),

I have been a uconn fan since the 2008-09 season.

1. 2011 postseason
2. Christian Vital speech
3. Jalen Adams shot vs Cincinatti

Honorable mention: Tristen Newton 4 triple doubles

And not necessarily in that order

Not quite iconic, but worth a shout:

When I think “iconic moment” I think of a freeze frame in time, not necessarily entire games…

1) “We shocked the world”

2) Kemba’s stepback

3) Ray Allen game winner over AI

HM 4) Tate George The Shot

HM 5) “This is what happens when you ban us”

That's what I am confused about in this thread. How long is a moment? A moment is defined as "a very brief period of time."

Is an iconic moment one play? Or could it be an entire game? An entire game could be a "very brief period time" in the grand scheme of our following UConn for many years. Or could the moment be just the end of an entire game, which I guess is just a moment? So the very end of the national championship in 1999, when some of us shed a tear, is definitely a moment.

Inquiring minds want to know. I sound like @Hans Sprungfeld with this post. :)

1. In 1979, UConn was one of seven founding members of the Big East Conference. But before Calhoun took the job, the Huskies averaged a mere 15 wins a season. At his introductory news conference, Calhoun was asked if UConn could -- gasp -- one day become a national power. His response? "It's doable."

2. Trajan Langdon trips over his own feet.

3. 5 games in 5 days, followed by 6 more wins.

The first UConn basketball game at the Hartford Civic Center on January 2nd 1975. This was a big event. Suddenly UConn would playing in front of a crowds more than double the old field house. It is when the university took it's first step to being a school that the whole state supported. UConn basketball became an event drawing sellouts and increased media coverage. It is probably the main reason that the Big East invited UConn to be part of the conference -- they never would have been asked if they were still playing in the old field house.

Joining the Big East is probably the next most important iconic moment in basketball at the university. It's only second because it doesn't happen without the Civic Center.

1) 99 NC - AZHuskiePop explained it best. I don't think many remember how dominant that Puke team was. They were a team of NBA players against supposed wannabees and the wounds of the 1990 buzzer beater from the same team (and the biggest jerk on that team) were still fresh.

2) "The Shot" - and like Spaceman213J this was almost it for me and I even named my profile after this because we were so pathetic for so many years before that season. I think Donyell watched that game and said something to the effect of "these guys are great. I gotta play for them." We have been a national name ever since. If Tate didn't hit that shot I'm not sure we'd be where we are today. But he did...

3) So many great moments but everything else is a distant third. The Kemba step back, back-to-back, "That's what happens when you ban us," Rip's buzzer beater, 30-0, Ray's Garden shot, etc were all epic, but nothing compares to the first 2.

Just moments, for me, it’s:

‘99 final minute, I could narrow it to multiple plays. The El-Amin hesi floater and FTs are very underrated.
‘04 8-0 run vs. Duke
‘96 Ray miracle shot vs. GTown
‘11 Kemba step back
‘14 Shabazz postgame speech

I dno how to order these. I also don’t know how to fit in ‘23-24 and ‘23 is the weirdest year ever because there’s not many memorable MOMENTS to me, just consistent greatness.

Maybe the Gonzaga/Timme beat down or the 30-0 run, if you can broaden it to a full time half of ball.
Actually the 2004 Final Four vs. Duke was a 12-0 run. We were down 8, won by 1, and that included a meaningless 3 at the end.

It happened over 3 minutes and needed 12 good outcomes in a row.

From memory, we started down 8 (75-67):
Duke miss
Anderson transition 3 (down 5)
Duke miss
Ben Gordon fouled on a fast break -- 2 FTs (down 3)
Another stop
Okafor turnaround floater on the baseline (down 1)
Another stop
Okafor putback with Boone hustle assist (up 1)
Redick stripped in the lane and K whines like a b____
Anderson 2 FTs (up 3)
Redick short on a 3, Okafor rebound
Okafor 1 FT (up 4)
Then Duhon meaninless halfcourt 3.

That's 6 stops and 6 scores in a row. If we missed even one of those or allowed one score, we probably run out of time.

I already was admonished and recognized my mistake, I meant to say “down 8” but I said “8-0 run” so LEAVE ME ALONE!!!

Just messing.

That sequence was INSANE, and the Okafor-Boone wrestle-rebound to go up 1 was one of the most exhilarated I’ve EVER felt watching a game.

Real time feelings, that’s close to the top moment for me.

‘99 Championship. When I have to pick one moment only I always think of Rip’s 3 with 3:29 left. Duke was close in the last 10 minutes but couldn’t catch up. That 3 convinced me that UConn wasn’t going to let Duke back in. There was plenty of time left so I’m glad I wasn’t wrong.

Rashad’s 3 in the 2004 Duke game was huge. It cut the deficit to 5 and the boys took it home from there. Someone mentioned K going crazy when the ball was stolen on a drive to the hoop but it was a stop on Jason Williams, not Redick. The Okafor put back late and then Emeka being fouled with seconds left and him strutting to the line with UConn up 3 to seal it was great. He missed the first but not the second. Beating Duke always adds more to a moment.

the back to back championships are unbelievable but the domination means there weren’t do or die moments late.

So many moments were already talked about that are part of the Husky lore but no one has mentioned Brimah’s 3 point play v St Joe’s yet. There is no way I thought winning that game was just the first of the six that would end with the fourth title coming to Storrs. UConn handled the last five games pretty well so that was the key play of that run.

Must have been someone else because Jason Williams was definitely not on that team. Ewing or Dockery? Shelden Williams? I kind of remember the play you're talking about because I remember K complaining with his rat face, but don't remember who the Duke player was.
