After a great offensive performance led by what Kara Wolters has begun calling the Three Headed Monster, we now take on Villanova at home. We have seen some incremental developments, some regressions, but the explosive trio are playing very well together and improving every game. We are only roughly 2 months away from the Big Dance so there are several things I would like to see. Here are my top 3:

1) KK and KC not to start the break by dribbling but rather by passing the ball ahead to an open man. Let's look to score in transition as much as possible. We have the shooters.

2) Aubrey to look even better than she did against Seton Hall and to get more minutes.

3) Morgan, please shoot whenever you are open, not only when you made your last shot. We may need you to drop 10 in a big game down the stretch.

What are yours?

Easy and basic...
  1. More Aubrey
  2. Post players more involved in scoring
  3. Continue and build on the stellar defense from Seton Hall
    1. 3a) continue working on the half court offense. Even Paige mentioned Geno challenged them after the SJU game to do better so it's not like this issue is some kind of mystery.

How do you prepare when the teams in your league are so weak? I really think that UConn could put out any 5 and win the conference title and that is not going to prepare them for the big games.

1. Morgan and Aubrey take over the spot currently held by KC (they need to have a taller line up)
2. Ice to be more aggessive. She needs to show she can take over the inside when needed
3. Paige to have the same aggressive approach seen by Azzi and Sarah in the last game

So, for the 100th time, what solution do you propose? All the people grumbling about the Big East need to start proposing useful solutions instead of complaining time and again

The funny thing is, the complaining about the conference is pointless. It’s right up there with whining about the ‘bigs’. UConn’s first two final fours came out of the old Big East, which was far worse than this rendition, and the non conference schedule wasn’t all that great either.

What prepares the players for big games is practice. They are practicing to meet a standard and measuring themselves against it. I know this because I’ve heard countless players say it over the years. UConn lost to Notre Dame three times during Breanna Stewart’s freshman year, then easily defeated them in the national semifinal. Mostly, it was because Breanna Stewart got better during practices. I do think the non-conference tough games are a nice measuring stick. But they don’t determine the final results.

Since this thread are the three things I want to see:
1. Morgan and Allie continuing to get better, particularly Morgan on defense.
2. KK playing under control and being a terror on defense.
3. Aubrey easing back into the rotation.

The American was far worse than the Big East, too

I want to see how three lineup combinations work. The first is exchanging KK for Kaitlin, with Azzi, Paige, Sarah and Jana. A passer/defender with plenty of scoring teammates, and letting Kaitlin use more of her individual mid range scoring ability on the second unit.

The second and third combos are more related to how we potentially use Aubrey in both a bigger and smaller lineup, in both cases teaming with Sarah. The smaller is Aubrey at the 4 and Sarah at the 5, a little undersized, but still very good and able to be competitive on stats like rebounds and blocked shots.

The third is Aubrey and Sarah at the 3/4 instead of 4/5 with Jana at the 5 and Paige and Azzi at the 1/2. That could be our best big lineup and I could see Aubrey and Sarah switching positions on offense and defense. On offense Sarah could be the 3, and on defense Aubrey could be the 3.

I know it is early from Aubrey's perspective as she gets back in the groove, but for the upcoming games watching how she can fit in various scenarios is what i will be looking for.

1. Improve the game play from the Seton Hall game, both offense and defense.
2. Keep everyone fresh with timely substitutions.
3. Everyone plays, everyone eats and no injuries.

Remember, these are things I WANT to see not expect to see.

#1 Jana to get a double double

#2 Paige to get 30 points

#3 Aubrey to get more playing time and show she's back.

Unlike many here I think it is time to start preparing for the end season as all players are now likely available (and hopefully will continue to be). This is the halfway mark of the season and the starters now need to get more time together to get ready for the longer stints they will play in the higher quality games. They need flawless preparation. What is sad in my opinion is that end of season awards too often go to those with the most gaudy stats. Paige, for instance, averages just under 20 points per game and just under 4 assists. This won't win any awards but she also so far plays only about 25 minutes per game. Hard to compete that way for awards and acclaim. Great for the team though. Quite the conundrum.

1. Paige, Azzi, and Sarah each get their +20 points.
2. The post players and the point guards each get a total of +10 points. The remaining players get the rest.
3. The team plays 40 minutes of winning, injury free, UConn basketball.
