Today’s Visit from Mora

So we give a coach an audience at UConn who is flipping our commits in real time. Crazy.
Again, if an east coast kid wants to pull up stakes and go to Fort Collins sight unseen (and I understand it is a lovely place, BTW) I say go with God. It's not like we're losing a slew of 5 stars.
Incredibly, we are equally or perhaps even better positioned than Penn freakin State at the moment -- and a team we beat might very well be the ACC champions. glass half full

To be clear, the 5 highest ranked conference champions get an automatic bid, period, whether P4 or G6. I think. So you could have 2 G5 conference champions get automatic bids and none from the ACC because the ACC sucks *ss.
This is correct. It is the 5 highest ranked conference champions. Since there are 4 power conference, the implication is that there will be 4 P4 conference champions and 1 G6. But with Duke going to the ACC championship game, if they win and JMU wins the Sun Belt, there is a chance that JMU AND the N Texas/Tulane winner will end up being ranked higher than Duke and there would be 2 G6 getting autobids.

It would also be likely that the conference champion wouldn't be ranked high enough to get the CFP auto bid because they wouldn't be ranked high enough. Our former coach is chasing fool's gold
I disagree with this statement especially since in the short life of the CFP, the one G6 playoff spot went to Boise State who will be in the PAC. There will be at least 1 G6 in the playoffs every year. Where is that team coming from? The American is the strongest conference now but great seasons from a PAC team (or Sun Belt / MW) absolutely can get a bid. If CSU has a 12-0 or 11-1 season, wins the conference and beats some good teams along the way, they would be in the mix.

I will say your comment probably makes more sense for a MAC or ConfUSA team. Even a 12-0 season from one of those schools probably would not be enough to be the highest ranked conference champion. I mean, it is possible but highly unlikely.

And for an independent with no conference championship the only path is to get one of the 7 at large. Notre Dame cannot get an autobid but they have a path to get an at large bid because of the schedule they play. With UConn's schedule, it is close to 0.0% because even going 12-0, they would still be ranked lower than teams currently on the bubble like Oklahoma or Miami that play in a power conference.

So what? Where is UConn getting $500M to build an on campus stadium, not even factoring in home improvements.
CSU managed to do it. I walked around Canvas Staduim earlier this year and it's pretty darn impressive.

With the PAC 12, it seems like any of those 8 members could win that conference any given year just due to the fact there are only 8 members. It would also be likely that the conference champion wouldn't be ranked high enough to get the CFP auto bid because they wouldn't be ranked high enough. Our former coach is chasing fool's gold

I was curious if there has been any reporting on what went down in this visit from the former coach and what was said
Edited:

Here is an interesting factoid. Since the CFP in 2014, there have been 40 G5 schools (not including BYU) ranked including this year so far. What conferences have they been from?

1. American 22
2. Mountain West 9
3. Sun Belt 6
4. CUSA 2
5. MAC 1

Based on next year's conferences, where have the ranked teams come from:

1. American 16
2. Pac 12 9 (Oregon St. and Washington St. were each ranked one year each though not in a G5)
3. Sun Belt 6
4. Mountain West 3
4. MAC 1, CUSA 1

Where the highest ranked G5 conference champ has come from:

1. American 9
2. Mountain West 2
3. MAC 1

What are the odds of becoming the highest ranked G6 school?

There are 67 G6 schools, so 1/67 or 1.5%.

Ill Be Back Jim Carrey GIF

Thanks for that analysis. I'm surprised that the "ascended 3" from the American didn't make a bigger percentage of their ranked teams.

Nice. Of course, the odds for say USF would be higher than for say FIU simply because of conference affiliation and program history. We'll have to wait and see how the PAC 12 performs top to bottom. It has potential as a collection of large state universities. The football schools range from Fresno State at 24k to SDSU at 39k. I'm rooting for SDSU and also curious about Texas State

Still greater chance to make the CFP than as an independent.

UConn would make the playoff if ranked anywhere from 7 to 12 depending on where the 5 conference champions are ranked. They have to be the 7th ranked school after the 5 conference champions are selected. UConn played 3 P4 in 2025, 4 in 2026, and 4 in 2027, so if UConn goes undefeated or maybe one loss and the P4's they play have good seasons, it is possible.

Not sure what your point is. I am just stating a fact as a G5 the chance to make the playoff is easier winning a conference championship

I gotta say, I've seen some video clips and he looks a lot different. He just seems much older, more uncomfortable, actually less confident. Maybe he's tired because it's been so hectic but it all seems a little forced. I mean, he's basically repeating what he said here so maybe it is forced. 5 years older and trying to rebuild a program in the dumpster. Anyway, I'm feeling relieved that we are moving on.

Go sit in a corner for a timeout. What's wrong with you dog, quoting a man who wrote red pants, have you no decency??? 😉😁

Of course, Bob Diaco also talked about "fish cakes" and possibly said "the game of football is like a fine meal."

Yes, you spend a lot of money, and a waiter with red pants gives you lousy service.

After watching the CSU presser introducing JM as their new head coach and then seeing him at their women's basketball game last night, it looked clear (to me anyways) that JM is happier where he's at now. Happy for him and his family. Wish him nothing but the best (except against us)

Relax everyone. Standard operating procedures. It's not like he didn't have to return his badge/access card when he left. He will be guided throughout. He will not be "recruiting" specific players in front of the entire group. That info would leak from anyone and everyone not a target. Bad look for him to do something like that as a coach. Privately via social media/phone, I am sure it is already happening or at least he is making his Christmas list of possible portal additions.
All of this is true but fact remains, he is poaching players. The same thing he complained about last year.

The damage is done with leaving in the middle of the night, holding press conferences with CS and posting all over social media, with no communication to fans.

Now he wants to return to do what exactly?

Tell them “I love you.” Um, sorry Jim if you did you would have addressed them before you left to take job.

You didn’t man-up and have the meeting then so coming back now puts everyone in awkward position.

Agreed thought to stop it might make us look bad.

But Warde should have asked Jim (if he was insisting) to come address team AFTER the bowl game. Not get into their heads before it.

It's funny how feelings can change so quickly. I hope Mora doesn't win another game.
