Today’s Visit from Mora

Looks like Mora flipped Xavier Wimbush from UConn to CSU. Not related to today’s meeting.
I guess we can't be too worried about some of these decisions. This Virginia kid had offers from Buffalo, Liberty, ODU and a bunch of FCS.
He committed to Mora/Hilliard back in June and announced on July 4th. Not a huge surprise when kids commit to coaches and not the school. Is what it is…

So what? Where is UConn getting $500M to build an on campus stadium, not even factoring in home improvements.

Do you see the money we are throwing around? I read today they are spending $5 million to build a new boathouse for that ever popular rowing team. How much is that field house renovation gonna cost us? Probably close to $100 million. Also announced today was 99 million for gampel renovations. And we are not even talking about the money ponied up for some of the other buildings on campus (Gant science complex under renovation AGAIN). I especially love the 2 million spent for the peace garden.

Money isn’t the issue especially if we ever learn to spend it wisely.

I have bad news for everyone. Given our position, whenever a coach comes here and fully succeeds, he will quit for greener pastures after a few years and we will have to rebuild, or a coach won’t succeed, we fire him after 3 or 4 seasons and we have a total rebuild.

That is just our reality unless and until we are in a power conference. It would make it easier on everyone if we accept it and root for the coach who quits because he succeeded as opposed to the coach who we fire because he didn’t.
Reality is, we’ll have same challenges in FB if we make P4.

The hurdles in FB are bigger and more expensive than BB. There will always be 10-20 programs that can get their guy regardless.

Look at SEC where the coaches get poached by fellow SEC schools (see Kiffin).

Fortunately, for BB we’re a Top 5 program so the tables slant in our favor there.

Best case, fb lands a Calhoun like figure that bleeds blue and northeast football. UConn anlmost lost Calhoun a couple times but he stayed in the end.

Unfortunately, that might be a unicorn for fb coaches.

This is the case even if you are in a power conference. Good coaches will leave for greener pastures. Being in the SEC didn't protect Ole Miss.

There are like... six jobs which this is not the case. Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Notre Dame.

Everyone else is poachable.
Not so sure about ND, with previous LSU hire.

Nothing on the meeting. Nothing on the coaching search. Perhaps I should bite the bullet and subscribe to Storrs Central at this point.

I actually have no problem with Mora coming back to leave as long as he's clearly not recruiting players. It's a win for Mora because it makes him look "classy" but it's also a win for UConn if he's still telling people to look out for Bell and Fagnano for post season awards and the draft. I know I am in the minority here. UConn's niche the next couple years has to be "being a bit different". All of those schools who left for greener pasture other than Louisville are complete tire fires. Pitt is pretty good at football (their biggest moment this year though is "who beat them by more, Miami or Notre Dame") but their once great basketball team is in shambles. If we go two more years in this 7-9 win pattern (especially with tougher schedules the next two years), it's only going to shine a new light on us as the program that "did it differently". Maybe the no conference thing works for the next 3-5 years if we keep getting bowl eligible and beat P4 teams. In 5 years, it's going to be the "P2", whatever they want to call the ACC/Big 12, and a bunch of little brothers with the American and Pac 12 pretending they are somehow a third tier around the ACC/Big 12 and better than MAC/Sun Belt and CUSA.
Not sure how many follow or followed Mora.
After he took the job, but also after he changed the profile picture, he was actively re-posting Fagnano and Skyler praises.

I get the whole Mora hate. As a fan, I’m disappointed. Hearing things he may have said also suck.
But reality is, the only ones that should be mad are the players. For some, this next bowl might be their last game. It’s not necessarily Moras fault on timing, but it screws over players that have been asked to buy into Moras plan.

UConn needs to see this hire as an investment in FB and a step in getting to P4. Just get the right guy, and let’s keep this upward trajectory

Those are UConn decisions. The Rent is not owned by UConn; it is owned by the State. UConn has a lot of other parties to answer to when it comes to not playing at the Rent. I'm talking about politicians and the ones who control the state funding of UConn.

regarding the players at least most of them are getting paid
They would be completely naïve and thinking about the coach is going to be there forever
I think all of this angst is laughable
Every player and every coach is a free agent every year

they are paid professionals, and just like the coach they can make business decisions

It's sad you think Colorado State is greener pastures.
If you are a skier with a chalet (for lack of a better word) in Ketchum, it is quite plausible. Just call for a NetJet and you are there in an hour and a half. Or ski in Colorado. Just a short drive.

Just my opinion, the grass isn't necessarily greener, however CSU will be in Pac12 next year and allows a path to the playoff.
It is and will be still a G5/G6 conference, right? (You seem to implying they will get P4 status wrt the CFP.)

I don't think that's a reasonable inference whatsoever.
Well, OK, what I am saying that the price of admittance has to be paid in advance. Either get good at football or buy your way in like SMU. What is you position?

Are we this small. This vindictive. He gave 5 really good years. He left on good terms it seems.

Not to let him in the building is stupid. Would show what a unprofessional outfit we are.

Give the guy a break.
4 years. FOUR. Hired November 11, 2021. That's four. Please stop saying five.
Thank you.

I unfollowed him

why can't we as fans be mad? we're the ones who obsess over the program day in and day out. we pay for facilities and salaries

I hope the players go out and play their hearts out and win a bowl game for the zipper. they'll prove that it was more the players and less the mora

something tells me Hilliard will be gone too ( maybe right after the bowl game )

I agree with you on this. We are and most likely will always be a stepping stone job. However, a stepping stone usually goes up. This move was a step sideways. I think this is what angers me the most. I get that he wants to go to the mountains yada yada. I just feel like it’s crap that he had UConn flying and was revered here and just decided to take a lateral move out of the blue.

If we get a coach who succeeds and gets a shot at a higher prestige job, I’d totally get it. Sure I’d be upset but it is what it is. However, being left for a school that is equal to us except they have a conference, is disappointing.

Not allowing him to address the team would be absurd. They know him, they played for him. Addressing the team that he assembled and coached is not an "ad campaign" to leave. If they want to leave that's their choice. It happens anytime a coach leaves for another job. There's no ideal time for a coach to leave given the college football calendar of events.

From the article above:

“He doesn’t plan to stay in Connecticut any longer than necessary as he said he is landing back in Denver on Wednesday morning at 10:35 to “hit it and get at it,” with his new program.”
1 minute is longer than necessary at this point.

He knew we were losing our star QB, RB and Receiver. Next season was going to be a rebuilt anyways.

So we give a coach an audience at UConn who is flipping our commits in real time. Crazy.

I said disappointed…. You can be mad.
But it’s not as personal as it is for players. And it’s not like UConn is the only team to lose its coach or still be looking.
Many high profile P2 schools are still looking.
