I thought that the auto bid goes to the top G5 team. UConn is viewed as G5, so that is UConn's pathway as well as all the other G5's. No?

Yes, automatic bids only go to conference champions. Even if ND were to finish the season ranked #1 and undefeated, they would receive an at large bid. They could still be the highest seed but it wouldn't be from an automatic bid.I think it’s the top G5 conference champ that gets in.
No G5 top ranked CONFERENCE WINNER gets the auto bid. UConn only path is getting at large bid. In most years meaning being ranked in the top 10 (assuming G5 conference champ and either Big 12 or ACC conference champ not ranked in top 12).I

To be clear, the 5 highest ranked conference champions get an automatic bid, period, whether P4 or G6. I think. So you could have 2 G5 conference champions get automatic bids and none from the ACC because the ACC sucks *ss.I think it’s the top G5 conference champ that gets in.
unfortunately, people hear Pac12 and think UCLA, USC, Washington, Oregon etc. The inflection in some local commentators voices' implied as much "Mora is going to be coaching in the PAC-12!'' It's barely a slightly richer mans Mountain WestJust my opinion, the grass isn't necessarily greener, however CSU will be in Pac12 next year and allows a path to the playoff.
Again, if an east coast kid wants to pull up stakes and go to Fort Collins sight unseen (and I understand it is a lovely place, BTW) I say go with God. It's not like we're losing a slew of 5 stars. So we give a coach an audience at UConn who is flipping our commits in real time. Crazy.
This is correct. It is the 5 highest ranked conference champions. Since there are 4 power conference, the implication is that there will be 4 P4 conference champions and 1 G6. But with Duke going to the ACC championship game, if they win and JMU wins the Sun Belt, there is a chance that JMU AND the N Texas/Tulane winner will end up being ranked higher than Duke and there would be 2 G6 getting autobids. To be clear, the 5 highest ranked conference champions get an automatic bid, period, whether P4 or G6. I disagree with this statement especially since in the short life of the CFP, the one G6 playoff spot went to Boise State who will be in the PAC. There will be at least 1 G6 in the playoffs every year. Where is that team coming from? The American is the strongest conference now but great seasons from a PAC team (or Sun Belt / MW) absolutely can get a bid. If CSU has a 12-0 or 11-1 season, wins the conference and beats some good teams along the way, they would be in the mix.It would also be likely that the conference champion wouldn't be ranked high enough to get the CFP auto bid because they wouldn't be ranked high enough. Our former coach is chasing fool's gold
CSU managed to do it. I walked around Canvas Staduim earlier this year and it's pretty darn impressive. So what? Where is UConn getting $500M to build an on campus stadium, not even factoring in home improvements.

With the PAC 12, it seems like any of those 8 members could win that conference any given year just due to the fact there are only 8 members. It would also be likely that the conference champion wouldn't be ranked high enough to get the CFP auto bid because they wouldn't be ranked high enough. Our former coach is chasing fool's gold
I was curious if there has been any reporting on what went down in this visit from the former coach and what was said
Here is an interesting factoid. Since the CFP in 2014, there have been 24 G5 schools ranked including this year so far. What conferences have they been from?
1. American 11
2. Sun Belt 6
3. Mountain West 4
4. CUSA 2
5. MAC 1
Based on next year's conferences, where have the ranked teams come from:
1. American 7
2. Sun Belt 6
3. Pac 12 5 (Oregon St. and Washington St. were each ranked one year though not in a G5)
4. MAC 1, CUSA 1, Mountain West 1
What are the odds of becoming the highest ranked G6 school?
There are 67 G6 schools, so 1/67 or 1.5%.
Nice. Of course, the odds for say USF would be higher than for say FIU simply because of conference affiliation and program history. We'll have to wait and see how the PAC 12 performs top to bottom. It has potential as a collection of large state universities. The football schools range from Fresno State at 24k to SDSU at 39k. I'm rooting for SDSU and also curious about Texas StateHere is an interesting factoid. Since the CFP in 2014, there have been 24 G5 schools ranked including this year so far. You've had Temple, Memphis, Tulane 2x, UTSA, Army, North Texas.![]()
Thanks for that analysis. I'm surprised that the "ascended 3" from the American didn't make a bigger percentage of their ranked teams.
Still greater chance to make the CFP than as an independent. Here is an interesting factoid. Since the CFP in 2014, there have been 24 G5 schools ranked including this year so far. What conferences have they been from?

UConn would make the playoff if ranked anywhere from 7 to 12 depending on where the 5 conference champions are ranked. They have to be the 7th ranked school after the 5 conference champions are selected. UConn played 3 P4 in 2025, 4 in 2026, and 4 in 2027, so if UConn goes undefeated or maybe one loss and the P4's they play have good seasons, it is possible.Still greater chance to make the CFP than as an independent.
Not sure what your point is. I am just stating a fact as a G5 the chance to make the playoff is easier winning a conference championshipUConn would make the playoff if ranked anywhere from 7 to 12 depending on where the 5 conference champions are ranked. To quote Bob Diaco, "there is no irreplaceable man"I gotta say, I've seen some video clips and he looks a lot different. He just seems much older, more uncomfortable, actually less confident. Maybe he's tired because it's been so hectic but it all seems a little forced. I mean, he's basically repeating what he said here so maybe it is forced. 5 years older and trying to rebuild a program in the dumpster. Anyway, I'm feeling relieved that we are moving on.
Go sit in a corner for a timeout. What's wrong with you dog, quoting a man who wrote red pants, have you no decency??? 😉😁To quote Bob Diaco, "there is no irreplaceable man"
Of course, Bob Diaco also talked about "fish cakes" and possibly said "the game of football is like a fine meal."To quote Bob Diaco, "there is no irreplaceable man"

All of this is true but fact remains, he is poaching players. The same thing he complained about last year.Relax everyone. Standard operating procedures. It's not like he didn't have to return his badge/access card when he left. He will be guided throughout. He will not be "recruiting" specific players in front of the entire group. That info would leak from anyone and everyone not a target. Bad look for him to do something like that as a coach. Privately via social media/phone, I am sure it is already happening or at least he is making his Christmas list of possible portal additions.
Here’s a new spin
