Thursday 1st Round games thread

Oral Roberts

Kent State

My sleeper picks for sweet 16-final four

Glad i picked Furman in a dozen brackets too;
They almost made the dance a few yrs back

I had Charleston +5.5

Down 4 and they foul with 1 second left. Ouch.

.-.
Princeton had 6 blocked shots and Zona had 1 blocked shot, insane.

I only watched the last 5 minutes, as they were up about 8-10, and they literally looked like they were stuck in mud and playing their first scrimmage of the season. It was bizarre.

I do a couple brackets, but my main one was UConn winning it over Zona. 1 of my other 2 I had Zona winning it.

I've always liked them, but it's weird how badly they choke since like early 2000s.

The portal and the fact that top talent doesn’t stay in college has created far more parity than we like to admit when our Huskies lose games. Experience has always been critical in March, despite what Michigan did one time.

Focus on D and rebounding and UConn can put teams away. Can’t get caught up in shots not falling.
I doubt Princeton is using the portal.

I don't know how you would measure this, but this Iowa team has to be one of the worst defensive teams to ever receive an at-large. It is not so much that Iowa can't stop anyone, as that it looks like they are not even trying to slow them down. Iowa plays like one of my middle-aged YMCA pickup games.

I went back 10 years on KenPom, Iowa is 168th in defensive efficiency this year. The only worse at large teams are Indiana in 2015 at 200th and Wake Forest in 2017 at 176th. There's honestly very few autobids worse than them most years either, only 2 or 3 every season

I was just looking at the ESPN Bracket and there are still over 18000 perfect brackets left. WOW

Think Oral Roberts will score this game? SMH

There it is. Took 8 minutes but they finally have a hoop.
If I didn’t think it was just wrong as a UConn fan I was going to bet Duke -6.5. Felt like an easy one they way they have been playing and given they have top 10 level talent.

And Pearl immediately goes to "Iowa is #3 in Offensive Efficiency" in halftime interview...

Duke is so collectively big that we would have to dust off Samson against them. It's 7 footer after 7 footer.

Northwestern packing the paint with legit size and daring Boise to shoot. So far, not good for Boise. This isn’t going to be attractive basketball.

the lone bright spot...UVA is going to be a mid-bottom conference team next year even in a garbage ACC. Losing the entire starting 5 assuming Beekman declares for the draft
That sucks, because I prefer teams beating up on Duke and UNC. Plus Bennet seems like a good guy. Too bad they lost Van Der Plas and feel awful for Kihei.
