It's not going to come in this league. Going against programs that you recruit against, who attract the best talent, have storied programs with National Titles isn't going to magically appear in the AAC. The sad reality is that relevance will likely drift away like a tomato dies on a vine if this is a long term reality. How do you recruit great talent into this league unless you do it with the bags of cash/one and done philosophy? You can only find so many sleepers in this day and age of over information. The Butler scenarios do happen, but they're outliers and don't have long term sustainability to compete on a national level on an annual basis. Brand will carry for a little while, but not if the hoops program goes losing in the AAC.
Bottom line is we're a spoiled fan base and who can blame us? We've watched this program sky rocket like an internet stock with NBA players gallore, 3 NC's, a HOF coach in the best hoops conference in the country to this. The bubble has burst really hard. As much as I want to stay loyal, yada, yada to the programs rabid fanatacism, it's impossible in the current scenario. Maybe you're a better fan than me, but right now I feel like I've gotten used to the big leagues only to being forced to checked down to Triple A. And honestly, not to sound pompous, but as a dad, I have better things to do than carve out weekend time for SMU/Uconn. I expect ticket sales to plummet for Uconn men's basketball.
