Speaking of the second unit - interesting stat - as noted above mostly against ND's starters:

Offensive rebounds:
1st team + rotation players: 186 minutes, 3 offensive rebounds
Non-rotation players (Buck, Engeln, Johnson, Banks): 14 minutes, 3 offensive rebounds.
The crowd did rouse to give Heather a big hand when she fought for an offensive rebound. I wish this were Heather's freshman year rather than a redshirt junior season. She has untapped potential, something we got glimpses of this year.

my problem with what a lot of you are saying here is that i really didn't see the lack of effort that you saw. i thought that ND was quicker , stronger, and showed their "age", especially in the 2nd half. re uconn, what i saw was a lot of confusion at times, at both ends of the floor. and, ultimately, that falls in the laps of the coaches. i'm sorry, but hard to imagine, for example, that 4 coaches can't get 5 players on board as to whether they're playing man or zone, no matter how "immature" they are. set up chairs out on the floor away from the crowd, and make it clear. actually, i think it would be interesting to have their huddles "miked" for a game.

Make what clear? That he's unhappy? I imagine the team already knew that.

I would be interested to know how Geno & the coaches were supposed to get the players "on board". Please elaborate.

If the coaches haven't been able to get the players to listen to them for the last 4 months, how do you figure they're going to do it in 3 minutes?

Do you have kids? I have two teenaged sons. They're good kids, too, but at that age they know everything and they tend to do what they think is right or what has worked for them in the past and ignore the folks that make what they see as crazy rules. (kind of like some Boneyarders, now that I think of it) This is an immature team that needs to grow up.
Amen, Nan! I no longer have teens (23 and 20), but they are no less stubborn and pig headed about parental advice. Well, that is not exactly true. The 23 year old now sees that maybe Mama knew more then he gave me credit for. The 20 year old hasn't turned that corner yet, but it will come. Life's lessons have a way of doing that. And this team is dealing with some basketball life lessons that they will hopefully learn from down the road.
