The Top 16

Charlie does not predict Future Games when making his brackets. The loser of Louisville vs ND Game will most likely not get a #1 seed. This presumes that either Oregon or Miss St wins out.

The question to Charlie would the loser of ND vs Louisville still get a #1 Seed. His Answer is:

It is possible, but not as likely if Miss St wins out. Same goes for if Oregon wins out with a healthy Hebard. Both Miss St and Oregon would also be collecting good wins along the way by winning out.

Agreed. ND has one more major pre-tournament hurdle to clear on Monday. Syracuse will likely have something like 12k fans in attendance.
I thought Syracuse's attendance for WBB was abysmal?

Thankfully they didn't break a record to see that beatdown. Only 3rd best.

I would guess 4 of their top 10 games have been blowout losses.

Apparently Syracuse is getting snow and high winds today. Anyone who stayed home is surely glad they didn't drive through a near-blizzard to see that

Notre Dame's season is beginning to feel like this time last year.

Yes high winds on the east coast yday.
But snow? That's just Monday in SYRA.

Sure, the snow is nothing out of the ordinary. It's the wind gusts of 50-65 mph blowing the snow around that makes driving difficult.

IowaSt squeaks one out over TTU. A loss would've definitely killed their shot at hosting.
Still in perilous territory, but a loss would've been deadly.

It was a furious comeback by Iowa St after Texas Tech led almost the entire game. Tech was up by 7 with 1:50 left and appeared to be in complete control, but then were outscored 9-0 the rest of the way. Bridget Carleton was held scoreless in the 1st half but had this stat line **in the 4th quarter alone**:
  • 15 points on 6-9 shooting
  • 4 rebounds
  • 2 blocks
  • 2 steals
  • 2 assists
And her total stats for the game: 27 pts, 11 rebs, 4 assists, 4 blocks, 3 steals.

This comeback may have saved ISU's status as a host for the first 2 rounds.

I think #2 through #4 are very tricky to sort out. Creme currently has Louisville-UConn-ND. Given that ND was #6 as of Feb. 11, would Louisville's loss to Miami be enough to move ND all the way up past them to #2? I have my doubts, but it's possible.

Creme also has Marquette still as a #4 seed, but I really think they drop out of the top 16. Their losses to St. John's, Butler and Creighton really expose their lack of quality wins (best wins are over DePaul and SDSU). All of the other teams vying for the top 16 have better wins than that.

I like Iowa State's chances of still being in the top 16.

My predictions, FWIW:
1. Baylor 2. Louisville 3. UConn 4. ND
5. Oregon 6. Miss St 7. Stanford 8 NC St
9. Iowa 10. Maryland 11. Oregon St 12. Miami
13. SC 14. TAMU 15. Iowa St 16. Gonzaga
[Just missed: Syracuse, Marquette, Ariz St, Kentucky]

Greensboro: 1. Baylor 2. NC St 3. Oregon St 4. SC [33]
Chicago: 1. Louisville 2. Stanford 3. Iowa 4. Iowa St [33]
Albany: 1. UConn 2. Miss St 3. Miami 4. TAMU [35]
Portland: 1. ND 2. Oregon 3. Maryland 4. Gonzaga [35]

Here's the committee's rankings:
1. Baylor
2. L'ville
3. ND
4. UConn

5. Oregon
6. Miss St
7. Stanford
8. Iowa

9. NC St
10. Maryland
11. Oregon St
12. SC

13. Miami
14. Iowa St
15. Syracuse
16 TAMU

And their brackets:
Greensboro: 1. Baylor 2. Iowa 3. NC St 4. TAMU
Chicago: 1. L'ville 2. Stanford 3. MD 4. Iowa St
Portland: 1. ND 2. Oregon 3. SC 4. Syracuse
Albany: 1. UConn 2. Miss St 3. Oregon St 4. Miami

.-.
NC: (1) Bay (8) Iowa ( 9) NCSt (16) TAMU [34]
IL: (2) Lou (7) Stan (10) MD__ (14) IaSt [33]
OR: (3) ND_ (5) Oreg (12) SCar (15) Syra [35]
NY: (4) CT_ (6) MsSt (11) OrSt (13) Miam [34]

Uconn vs Miami would be interesting. Though Miami has never advanced past the 2nd round.... ever...

Question: With things as they are (based on the reveal tonight), why does ND have to go out to Portland to play an away game against Oregon if they are higher on the S-curve than UConn? Shouldn't UConn be sent to Oregon for the "away" game against Oregon while ND gets Miss St. in Albany (a neutral(ish) game for both teams)? I realize that the ACC tournament will change this scenario in some way, but as things stand now, it doesn't seem fair.

Stuff isn’t gonna be fair. If ND didn’t lose to Miami or North Carolina we wouldn’t be in this position. I don’t think we have any room to really complain and I’m just glad we can still get ourselves in the Chicago region.

The committee can deviate from the S-curve for certain reasons, and geography is one of them. If Louisville is sent to Chicago, their thinking is that Notre Dame has to take a plane flight regardless. So they send them to Portland so that Albany can go to a "driving-distance" team.

Because geography is part of what the committee considers when placing the teams.

And the mens' committee does the same.
