It seems as if the WNBA was right on target with the emergence of Diggins and Griner this year. I hope that EDD can get back and play this season and help the WNBA continue to establish itself.

Don't think it was a surprise that they'd be good players in the WNBA. When it came to the draft, they were None to Shun. But they were None to Stun by the conclusion of the 2013 NCAAW tourney!

It took Skylar and Britney a second year to adjust to the WNBA, but they are playing at a high level now.

EDD was first rate from the get go

EDD probably had the easist position to adjust to in the WNBA. I think that a PG and a center have a much bigger adjustment. BG had a big adjustment period on defense due to what most refer to as the "Griner rule," aka defenseive three-second violation.

However, EDD was indeed the most prepared to hit the ground running last year. Let's hope she can get out and run again soon. This disease may well affect her for the rest of her career.

But of those three, there were none to shun.

Glad to see Griner is having such a terrific 2nd season. And believe it or not I don't mind that Diggins is doing really well. Of course I want to see our former UCONN players do the best, and we have our own superstars peppered all across the league. I think Tulsa is poised to be really good in the next several years. I honestly don't think Paris is a long term solution at the 5, but the rest of their starting rotation is really good.

I agree on Tulsa, and Paris is not a bad alternative at the 5. She is leading the league in rebounding at 11.3 per game and is averaging 9.5 ppg. I am not sure that Tulsa needs much more at that position as they remind me of Phoenix last year, which is a team that is happy to run their offense around the guards.

I suspect that Cambage will never don the Tulsa uniform again.

As with college, sometimes a lot has to do with the opportunities a player gets and also what they do with them, some of which is out of their control.

Liz has already said she's "definitely" coming over next season. :p

Also the small matter of talent and technique of which EDD has an excess of compared to virtually anyone.

The disease non-withstanding, and despite it being the "easiest" position, not only did she do well, but she lived up to her "three to see" label and had one of the best rookie seasons:

from WNBA.com

2013:
Named 2013 Rookie of the Year…Started in 31 games…Had the best debut for a Sky rookie in franchise history recording 22 points, putting her third in WNBA history…July 1, Delle Donne was named WNBA Rookie of the Month four times in June, July, September, August...She was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for June 24-June 30 and July 1-July 7…July 18,2013 Delle Donne won the All-Star vote becoming the first rookie to do so in WNBA history…On August 6, Delle Donne set a franchise record with 97 free throws made as a rookie…She set a franchise record with 39 blocks as a rookie…Delle Donne has scored 20+ points 13 times this season, this ties her for 6th all-time WNBA rookies…Finished the season with the 2nd highest free throw percentage for a player with 169 attempts in a season.

I was amongst the skeptical who did not foresee her doing well, and clearly I was wrong about that and I don't have a problem saying so. I am hoping that she is sidelined only for a short time and will be back at the bat, so to speak in due course. She cannot be happy about not being able to play.

I knew it was just a matter of time before "D" straightened BG out.;)

LOL!

we have proof enough of the efforts that she took to hone her talent. It's inspirational.

The team's playing better without her.

She has potential but not the drive to be great.

Skylar (Sky Digg) has that...

LOL!

If you would've seen her play in person when she played at Delaware then you would've been convinced.

I heard about her from guys I work with (I live about 20 miles from the school). I just thought "Oh, a girl who can shoot. Good for her!" but really I was kinda "meh" about her.

Once I saw her play then I knew she was the real deal.

I hate that the Lymes disease keeps bothering her.

I went several times to see her play - Columbia for example is a school in their conference, and just up the street from me. Each time I went, she was side lined for one thing or another. I believe I may have seen her once....But I did watch video of her work ethic and was very impressed. I just wasn't sure she could translate this to the WNBA, hence my skepticism. I was glad to be proven wrong.

You get no argument from me on this. EDD was absolutley the most prepared to hit the WNBA from day one. I am happy to see the other two hitting their stride in their second season. And given the choice, I still take BG with the 1st pick. She still has tremendous upside that I am not sure either EDD or Diggins have. I think all three will be mainstays of USA basketball for many years to come and I am excited about watching their continue development.

I think if the players switched places you would've gotten the same results.

Like Shoni this year EDD went to the best team for her own talents. It was the best fit and she was poised to succeed. I'm not sure she would've fit in with Phoenix as well.

Griner also would've had more success with the Sky last year and probably been Rookie Of The Year.

BTW- Why doesn't she dunk like she did at that game last Memorial Day? lol

not sure why you say that about Griner and the Sky. since Silvia averaged 16 and 11 last season, and was the WNBA's defensive player of the year, that probably would not have been a good place for Griner.

Griner would have performed better almost anywhere last year. The Phoenix offense was best described as the "ball hog" offense with the guards jacking up every long range bomb that opened up.

IMO she isn't a "Back to the basket" post center and could've played a lot of power foward for the Sky. Just think of her and Fowles together in the paint!
She likes to face the basket and dribble a lot. If she could set picks and dish passes like Dolson she would "up" her game considerably.
