Didn’t read this thread. Doubt I need to.

We simply missed shots, people. Jackson and his trigger pulls didn’t help, but there were otherwise good looks all night. It happens.

We got in to a 16 point deficit and lost by 2. The ball didn’t bounce our way last night. Creighton isn’t some bum team, they’re well-coached, they were at home with a raucous crowd and needed this win. You can’t bend yourself out of shape over this kind of loss.

Our offensive deficiencies can be summed up.....................we do not have a point guard, and it is NOT Cole's fault. He has been tasked with playing out of position (without complaint, as he is a team player and class kid). He would be a shooting guard on any other team with a true point. This is a recruiting issue.................period.

He has good and bad games as expected.

Not going zone when he was getting manhandled on defense was disappointing by our coaching staff.

On to the next one.
This. Should’ve changed things up when Kalkbrenner was going off. Huskies did a great job coming back from the deficit, could’ve/should’ve won.

we just don't have enough shooters that can take the pressure off Sanogo. Cole is pretty much it and they kept him covered pretty well when it counted. Jackson won't take a shot and Gaff is spotty at best. Martin should have been targeted more, but Sanogo tried to do it all himself.
they need some consistent shooters to make this work better. 0-5 against Creighton is annoying especially when they had several opportunities to at least get ahead when it was 52-52. Several shots were missed in that sequence and Creighton went back and scored right away. Just a very frustrating game to watch.

I just don’t think you can have Jackson, whaley, and sanogo in late in games where you need to score. Sanogo struggles with the traffic and they were daring whaley and Jackson to make shots. I was begging for polley to come in for one of them.
Jackson cost 8 points in less then 30 sec, turnover 2 we don’t score, they score 2, stupid a shot next time down, they score again ( 8 points in 30 sec), he is a liability and we are not talking about his 1940 “set shot”. Almost think Akok could be better choice!

Creighton/Mac kept going to Kalkbrenner until/if UConn stopped the action. Never happened. They didn't even need the three ball last night because of the success they were having.. Adama/staff need to watch some film.. Gonna see it again.

Looked to me like AS was caught watching the ball too much and was a step slow on recovering to stop his guy.

Give the guys credit for coming back and keeping the game close.
Yup, and it's tough to criticize a guy with 14 rebounds and 11 points, because sometimes he gets 15 and 20. But he can't lose track like that.

Guys, we didn't lose because of shooting and outside shooting isn't our problem as team, we're fine there...we stink at finishing around the rim.

We lost because we got blown out the first 16 minutes of the game and then when we got it close and had chances to go up we let Kalkbrenner have a field day at the rim because of constantly hard hedging with Sanogo.

Just to be clear, you are saying that Cole is the cause of this team's offensive deficiencies?

Love his effort and his trajectory.. The reality is he's still relatively new to the game.. Playing since age 15.. So his BB IQ is still evolving and he's a quick study.. But... The Hawkins pick should have been called out by Kalkbrenner's defender-Adama- Didn't happen.. BB 101

Live and learn..

We want him on the floor. When he gets in foul trouble or is missing shots we get in trouble. Against certain (bad) teams we can make hay with him on the bench. If teams can deny him though double teams we need to make them pay in other areas, i.e. Cole taking over in the second half.

Creighton went 34-30 for 64. We went 24-38 for 62. Is not difficult to see we lost the game in the first half and blew a chance to comeback with a series of bonehead decisions. Exactly what didn't happen against Villanova. Play 40 minutes of solid, smart ball, take the W, repeat. 30 minutes won't do it going forward.

Sure, Sanogo didn’t get back quick enough after the hedge, which led to multiple dunks. But Creighton/McDermott eliminated any rotational help by extending on the perimeter and clearing the lane, drawing all other UConn defenders away from the hoop. After Kalkbrenner got two or three dunks that way a defensive change was needed: either go zone or eliminate the Sanogo hedge. No change was made and Kalkbrenner go 20 points in the 2nd half as a result. A big-to-big double wasn’t available due to Creighton’s spacing. Tip of the hat to McDermott. Get ‘em next time Huskies. The silver lining - Danny and the team now know how they may be attacked come tournament time and they have time to prepare.
They have had time to prepare, but nothing seems to change.

At least we know Sanogo is coming back. Unless he pulls a DHam

Not trying to be negative here, just saying he needs little work. And that's not a bad thing

do we? im not so sure yet cuz of the possibility that, with the big stage looming up ahead, he could respond with driven performances that catch the eye of hoops nation, including nba gm types. will it happen? idk, but the real possibility exists. i think he luv's the big stage for the practical reason of his chance to make bank by just playing a game. he's new at this, but has figgered out that he has the power to make it rain benjy's on his head with stellar performances. timing is everything.
that tate guy passed go and collected cash by just making one shot.

RJ is a definitely a point guard. One of the best in the BE. Would you also say Kemba played out of position?
It's just an insane take and he's not the only one on the board who has said it. Cole is having just as good a season as Gillespie and averages more assists and has a better assist to turnover ratio than him. I doubt any Nova fans are saying Gillespie isn't a point guard.

I don’t know what Hurley can do here. He’s definitely out most talented player and when he’s on he’s one of the best players in the big East.

These past couple of games show just how much he can hurt the team though. This team plays SO well when he’s out the game. Our offense gets everyone involved, Whaley gets the do his amazing hedges and can be the same monster on the board. Guys have way more spacing and move the ball better.

With him there’s not as much spacing, we force feed him and he struggles to move the ball and find open guys. He’s not as good of a hedger as Whaley that we saw today. To the point he can single handedly sink us.

It’s almost to a point where I have half a mind to say he should come off the bench as a spark plug if he can’t make his teammates better and only look for his own shot. We just look so much better with Whaley at the 5.

Everyone else on the team does seem to be peaking at the right time. It’s up to Hurley to figure out these lineups in March. We may have to learn to rely less on Sanogo which this team has shown it’s completely capable of doing.

Did great tonight but I still stand by what I said. He got a lot of easy baskets and good position to go up quick once her got the ball. Better teams will make him work harder for it though.

He had some tremendous assists. He also gets us running because he speeds up our tempo.

They both have assets and liabilities but those 2 players are not interchangeable.
