The Official Tourney Thread

I am all aboard the St. Mary's bandwagon. They're my local team in the East Bay and looked great against VCU.

Yea, every game is obviously unique. You were referring to ND and UVA earlier. I don't think either of those teams have NBA talent. So you are right on that point. But a lot of these teams do have 1st round bucket getters that are the difference in close games. No one on UVM could stand up to a guy like Swanigan, who isn't even an elite prospect, but still a likely 1st rounder. Sometimes we see the mid-majors with better high end talent than middling P5's nowadays. I would take Upshaw over any kid on UM.

Swanigan was good tonight. Purdue can also put the biscuit in the basket, and that absolves a lot of sins elsewhere. Vermont played their A++ game just to stay in the same zip code of Purdue. This FGCU/FSU game has the same kind of feeling. It may not get completely out of hand, but FGCU will be hanging on by their fingernails if this game is going to stay inside 10 points and would have to get very, very lucky to win this (Leonard Hamilton standing in front of the other bench is a good start for FGCU). FGCU and Vermont are low majors though.

Leonard Hamilton has decided to play at FGCU's insane pace because he is Leonard Hamilton.

I have to say: Ian Eagle is exactly the right play-by-play guy for this FGCU game. He's got a little Gus Johnson in him.

This game and announcing are hugely entertaining. I wish there weren't a halftime.

Fl St - Fl Gulf Coast is really an entertaining one. 4 point game at the break. FState has some oak trees but FGCU is hanging with them. Fun team to watch - got to the sweet 16 a few years ago with a team that dunked like a flying circus.

Ian Eagle is my favorite on air guy for bball. Oh, if only we could trade Doris or Welsh for him.

FSU is opening it up. That Terance Mann can really play ball.

Hamilton slowed it down and pulled away. I wondered how long it would take him to do that. FGCU has probably scored over half their points in transition. Force them to attack a halfcourt defense with those trees inside, and the shot clock becomes a 6th defender. FGCU isn't a great shooting team, so their options get pretty bad, pretty quick.

Nevada making a game out of it. They will probably regret spotting Iowa State a 15 point lead.

Does anyone pass to the screener on pick and rolls anymore, or are the screeners just rolling to get some exercise? The pick and roll is a big part of both Nevada's and Xavier's offenses, but both would rather chuck 3's than pass to the screener. Nevada can think about that on the flight home.

I'm a super impulsive ETSU over Florida pick away from a perfect first day grrr
Ha! I did the exact same thing. So I was 15-1 and pretty excited until I checked the standings this morning on the Capital One Tournament Challenge and saw I'm in 11,412th place!!

Overall not a very exciting day 1 of the NCAAT. Hopefully we get some buzzer beaters today.

I'm 154,000th on ESPN. It makes me feel better because my wacky upset bracket is like 14 millionth

There were 5+ games last night that were somewhat close throughout (mostly 5 pts games), but then all spread to almost the exact same 10pt margin at 75-65-ish @ under 2 minutes left. None of the dogs made a legitimate threat. Felt like I watched the exact same 80-70 final 6 times.

Good news is that means someone big is going down today. When there are day 1 upsets it wakes up the day 2 favorites. Instead right now Duke -19.5, Baylor -12, Kansas -23.5, Oregon -15.5, Louisville -18.5, UNC -27, UCLA -18.5 & Kentucky -20 are complacent. Mark it down that at least one of those eight will lose.
If you went dogs across board in those 8 I think you win 5-6/8

Looks like Bayler is in for another first round dogfight.
Almost predicted that one but too easy with lowest pt spread and the karma police all over Baylor. Oregon is the other 'easy' one due to their injury, but I actually think they'll rally for a couple games at least. If I could command a somewhat possible upset to happen it'd be Louisville

Norse are gonna take down the Cayuts.

I feel a little bad pulling for the Oklahoma St. team that destroyed us but I'm already tired of the Michigan story. Northwestern go next as well.

Is that based off of anything or just anecdotal? Not asking to be a , just curious.

Anyone checking out this shoot out/shoot-fest between Michigan and OK St?

My god, everything is dropping, especially for Michigan, they are on fire. They made 11 of the first 14 threes they took in the 2nd half.... I want shooters like that on Uconn.

(But god are these commercials horrendous, so stupid.)
