The Official 2026 New York Jets Thread

Interesting…just when I didn’t think we would hear anything until tomorrow…they make the trade. CImini stated they were worried that the VIkings would be in play. I guess they really wanted Geno. II hope that Reich is on board with this.

The Pats drafted Wilson last year, who was regarded as the top Center in the draft. He fell further than he should have. He was always going to be the starting center this year, glad we got a 5th for Bradbury. With a 2nd year center and LT, AVT slots in nicely at LG, where he hasn't missed any time. Campbell was good before his knee injury and honestly shouldn't have come back.

Jets with a nice move picking up Davis, but they certainly haven't done much for a team with a lot of needs. Tanking for a QB again it seems.
The guy cannot stay on the field. Saying he hasn't missed time at LG is a pile of crap. You'll see. If he plays 13+ games, I'll buy you a steak dinner.

On another note, Matt Snell, whom many felt was the real MVP of Super Bowl iii passed away today. Matt ran for 121 yards and scored the only Jet touchdown against the Colts. RIP.

Nope. Didn’t want him. He’s not great against the run. I want a bigger true DE rather than a speed guy like Crosby. I don’t believe in trading picks for guys on high $ deals, no matter who they are. Crosby was overpaid when he signed that deal. Bad use of cap space. There are FAs out there who give you 85% of his pass rush ability, are better vs the run and cost half as much in salary and nothing in draft capital.
It will be awkward for you if he ends up on the Patriots now.

You should know better than this…now that he is on the Patriots he won’t miss a game the next 3 years.

.-.

Nah. The one constant on NFL players is once they get hurt, they only keep getting hurt over and hurt more. That's the reality of the NFL that no one can hide from and he's missed 41 of a possible 68 games so far.

6th rounder maybe? I'm curious.

I'll take a 6th rounder for him. I believe that basically that negates what we gave up for Geno Smith and, quite frankly, as much as I hate Geno Smith he's light years better than Fields.

It’s interesting how it ends up basically being a trade of Geno Smith for Fields. Although I think the pick they gave up for Geno is 2026 and the pick they get for Fields is 2027. The money they gave the Raiders washes with what they are getting from KC.

I guess a few teams were interested in Fields and he wanted to go to KC. Smart move by him…he needs to be around a top flight OC and top flight QB. Fields is so frustrating…he has so much potential. I hope he figures it out.

But yes…at this point Geno is much better and I think he is a perfect bridge…bridge to who or what I don’t know.

Fields has flopped at 3 different stops and, I know the KC staff is a far better judge of talent than The Deepster is, but man I don't know what they see in him. If he actually turns out to be a productive NFL QB there, I'll really question the Jets ability to develop anyone.

I don’t know…similar to Darnold…the Jets weren’t the only team who didn’t develop him. There is no looking back on this one. There is no way he could have been on the roster this year after the 2025 disaster. When he stated he was not willing to play as a wildcat QB and basically quit on the team when he was benched…there was no way Glenn and Mougey could have him in the locker room

Good luck to him…but if he all of a sudden figures it out…I still don’t blame the Jets for dumping him.

I’m not going to lay awake at night worrying that it’ll suddenly come together for him.

I will say, I did think there was a chance Zach Wilson developed into a competent QB and that hasn’t happened yet.

Nor has Trey Lance. It’s wild how bad that QB class was considering people thought u was great. I suspect it was Covid and the reduced games played.

Or maybe run-first quarterbacks actually stink?

Look at the final 4 this year - Stafford, Maye, Darnold and Nix. Peyton and Eli, Brady, Brees, Matt Ryan, Goff, Stafford, Rivers, Rodgers, etc, etc. I hate the run-first QB. They simply don't allow the play to progress. That's why, I'm convinced, Lamar Jackson will never win a Super Bowl. To some extent, Josh Allen kind of falls in that bucket too, though not nearly as guilty of it all the time, but they rely too much on his legs in the end.

I agree with you on guys who tend to run prematurely. Lamar is a key example. They built an offense for him, but it is limited. Drake Maye is faster than Josh Allen by the way and ran a lot in college and as a rookie. But they have been coaching him to extend plays. Remains to be see whether Daniels can learn to move to throw rather than taking off. Nix has wheels too, so running is good, if you can learn when to do it. Rodgers and Mahomes are good examples, they do run, but try to just extend plays most of the time.

For that particular class something more was going on. Even Lawrence hasn't been what was expected.

I agree with this and I will add injury is a big issue also with running QBs.

The Zach Wilson QB class should be studied. I do think like Hawk said, Covid was a big part of it. I think with Zach specifically was the product of playing poor competition and having a very good (and old) offensive line. Plus…there was a reason the guy wasn’t originally elected captain by his team. There was something missing mentally.

Lance was always a bit of a reach. Lawrence had one knock against him..people questioned his commitment to football. I think Lawrence is close to reaching what people thought he would be but early coaching like Meyer stunted his growth. he will never be Andrew Luck like he was originally compared to.

The thinking is probably that Fields is a similar style QB to Mahommes. The coaching staff does not have to appreciably change the offense if their golden boy goes down.

LOL. You may be the first person to compare Fields to Mahomes.

Saying someone has a similar style to someone else is not to say they are similarly talented. Regardless if it's Minshew or Fields backing up in Kansas City, if Mahommes goes down, they are up a creek.

If I had one game to win and Minshew and Fields were my only options, I’d take Minshew 100 times out of 100.

OK…so what is the current state of the QB position.

Yesterday, Orlovsky stated that after watching film he thinks Simpson is the best QB in the draft. Schefter said he didn’t agree with that…but he thinks Simpson definitely goes in the first round. That’s a bold statement by Orlovsky. I would guess he isn’t the only who has Simpson higher than Mendoza. Which means teams may be trying to move up in the draft to get him.

Should the Jets be buyers or sellers here? At this point, I do trust Mougey’s judgement. I think Fields was all AG. There is still a lot of time and pro days before the draft. But I would be surprised if the Jets drafted Simpson. I think they may be able to trade back from 16 and maybe pick up a 3rd round pick (which they give up for Reddick…sigh).

They have Geno…which should be a decent 2 year bandaid…they can pick up a developmental QB in a later round. I say they should be sellers.

Also…what is up with McFee? Did Dalton really go to Philly to be QB3? It feels like the Eagles are stil holding out for a 2 for McFee…but I don’t think they will get it. Now that the Jets have Geno, I don’t think they are considering McFee anymore….unless they get a good deal…because they still need a backup. He only has one year left on his contract…and bringing him in now doesn’t make sense.

So…I think the Jets will go with Geno…a backup like Taylor or Rush…and a developmental rookie…and Zappe.

I don't know that I would move UP to take Simpson, but I can live with him if he's there and he continues to impress. I was not sold on Dante Moore and wasn't upset when he stayed. I really don't know much about the guys coming out next year. So Simpson would be fine with me, for the right situation.

I do NOT want Geno for 2 years. I can swallow my medicine this year, but 2 years? No thanks.

One guy that has intrigued me is Joe Milton. He's backing up Dak in Dallas and when I see him, he has a rocket of an arm. But there's never been any hint that anyone is interested him anywhere.

Which pick are you referring to that you wouldn’t move up from? 16…or 33?

Who do you think will be the quarterback next year? Even if they draft a qb in the first round in 2027…it might be a stretch to start him on day 1.

I could see taking him at 16. I guess I don’t know that someone would take him before that. Maybe not a well thought out comment by me.

If we drafted, say Arch Manning, next year. There is no way in hell he sits behind Geno Smith week 1.

That seems high to me. I was thinking that they may need to move up from 33. But…if they really think he has a shot to be a starter then they should do it. I am still more supportive of keeping their top 4 picks and filling holes like edge, WR, CB etc.

The Jets are built to win like 6 or 7 games this year. They probably won’t be in position for Arch..but they might be able to trade. But it’s way to early to project which qbs in 2027 will be ready to play in 2027. I still think the Jets plan to play Geno for 2 years (if he is efffective).

Mougey is going to have to gamble his job and the Jets future using a draft pick on a QB. We have the draft picks and if he loves one of them that much where he's pushing the chips in on him, that's what we're going to have to live with. Simpson at 16 or one of the other non-Manning guys next year don't really make a difference to me.
