The Official 2025 NY Jets thread

Some of these head coaching moves are puzzling.

Saleh has talked his way into another shot at Tenn. Saleh seems like he can run a good defense but he really struggled as a leader of a team. Those reports in The Athletic about the Jets culture were pretty damning. I guess they are hoping he learned from his Jets experience?

And Hafley to the Dolphins. Last I saw him he was failing as the BC head coach. I don’t follow the Packers that closely…has their defense been so good the DC should get hired away?

I think Stefanski is a good hire by the Falcons. He was dealt a crappy hand in Cleveland. I also think it was smart to keep Ulbrich as DC.

Not sure about the Bills firing McDermott. You only do that if that is what Josh Allen wants. Who do they think will be better…Daboll? I wonder if Allen missed his OC so they made the move to bring him back?

I am kinda glad the Jets are not in this hiring cycle…lots of top jobs available and the Jets would just get table scraps.

I was surprised Saleh was chosen over Flores. Flores was actually good as HC in Miami and has been a better DC. Maybe those burned bridges are haunting him a bit.

Hafley was a surprise, but the Dolphins hired a new GM type guy from the Packers so that seems to be the connection.

Stefanski is a good hire. Agree on Ulbrich. That team is close and can succeed in a weak division.

Bills problems are roster driven as we all discussed. McDermott wasn't great but wasn't the problem. I guess that can bring in Daboll, but then probably lose Joe Brady. They need to upgrade the roster and the defense.

Aaron Glenn is better than any of these guys. I don't think he's the problem.

I'm shocked Saleh got another shot so quickly. While he's clearly a good defensive mind, it seemed like the culture and vibe were an absolute disaster. The whole Saleh and Joe B thing, while clearly more of a Benigno issue, was absolutely bizarre.

I had to google this. I had not heard about this before. I guess it was more of a NYC area thing.

While this incident was bizarre, I think the Athetic article shows that Saleh has major leadership issues…and possibly even paranoia.

As you said…surprised it happened so quickly.

guys which do you think happens first

  • UConn makes it to the CFP
  • Jets make it to the super bowl (not even win, just MAKE it)

lol
Dolphins just hired a guy who lost to UConn football.

Saleh runs good stadium steps.

Am I the only one thinks Harbaugh is a tad overrated? Giants fans are acting like they are getting peak Parcells.

Here are the coaches coaching today who I think are better:

Reid
McVay
Payton
Shanahan

Coaches who are close:
Lafleur
Vrabel
Campbell
Tomlin
Mike MacDonald

So why do Giants fans feel they need to give Harbaugh whatever he wants because they think they are lucky to get him?

Don’t get me wrong…I would still take him if I was the Jets, but I would take all of the coaches listed above ahead of him.

Absolutely. It's a very common situation. Former SB winning coach heads to a new team and fans feel like they can now contend for an SB.

The fact is, statistically no SB winning coach has ever won another SB at a future team.

What you do get, and what I'd kill for as a Jets fan, is a coach that knows how to run a camp, how to make it a professional, competitive franchise year in and year out. You don't have any learning curve as you would with an OC/DC making the jump and he usually brings along or attracts top talent on the coaching staff. No doubt he'll do all that with the Giants....but the odds of them winning a Super Bowl with him are low.

i'd still rather have had him and an actual shot at the playoffs, even if the chances of making a SB on his 2nd team are low and there's no historical precedent for it (I didn't know that).

The Giants will be back before we will, just like the patriots before them.
you guys know how this AGlenn movie goes. Woody will hire his next unproven cheap coordinator as a rookie HC, while Vrabel kisses a lombardi trophy and bostonians begin the gloating fest all over again.

15 years.
Gary V where are you?!

I agree…I said I would love to have him on the Jets. My point was that Giants are acting like they just got the best coach in the NFL and I listed 9 coaches I would rather have.

Yeah that is true. He is a true professional and you will trust that he is building the right culture and routines to have a solid organization.

It feels like every training camp, the Jets are doing something unique that doesn’t make sense. How about the “we don’t need to go to the combine..we got this” by Saleh and Douglas. Other than 1 draft…Douglas was a failure.

ALL GAS, NO BRAKES!!!

People called Payton washed when his tour with Saints ended. The Broncos were in cap hell yet just a few years later he turned it all around. Harbaugh is a pro coach who will be worth the money. That's how you win these days. Pay for a good coach.

As a Giants fan I'm not gonna get excited until I see the results on the field and see them consistently. There's no doubt though this is the best Giants hire since Coughlin. Most excited about hiring Harbaugh is how his coaching staff will turn out. It's more of a safer hire, if he's good and the team develops in the long run, whether they win a Super Bowl or not will depend on Jaxson Dart being the guy and getting lucky at the right time.

Winning a Super Bowl is unlikely sure for anyone. It is a bit of a random stat of no coach after winning a superbowl not winning another one for another franchise . No qb won a 2nd Super Bowl for another franchise until Peyton Manning did it I believe so there's always a 1st time for something.

If Reid won a Super Bowl in Philly would that have been a mistake hire by the Chiefs. So the Rams won it 99 because Vermeil didn't win a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 1980. Would Kevin Dyson have broken that tackle and brought the game into OT and won in OT if the Eagles win the Super Bowl in 1980 hmm.

I agree with what you are saying…but do you great that Harbaugh is a solid coach..worth the money..but he is not a top 10 coach in the NFL?

So that puts him as a top 5-10 coach in the NFL. You also might notice 8 of the 9 names you listed made the playoffs this year, that's why fans are excited. At a minimum you have a competent coach for a franchise that has been one of the biggest losers in the NFL for a decade plus.

Will he win a Super Bowl for the Giants? Probably not. But neither do 95% of other coaches. His tenure as a Giant is already a success for no reason other than he convinced the organization to get rid of the nepo baby hires who have hung around for 30 years doing absolutely nothing

So...harbaugh is 1000 times better than McCarthy. As is Tomlin. What are the Steelers thinking? Rodgers has to come back now. The Steelers need a reset. That ain't happening.

I just read that McCarthy and Tomlin have almost identical stats, including postseason numbers. The crack on McCarthy has always been competitive teams that underperform in the playoffs......like Tomlin. Interesting hire.

.-.
The Packers have now hired a DC. I have to assume that whoever the Jets are interested in is saying “Yeah…let me make sure I can’t get a better job somewhere else”

It’s not a great job..you have a lame duck head coach, a bad roster and a volatile head coach.

Jet fan commiserating here....nonJets fans need not respond

Even if I could ignore the dumpster fire in our own organization right now, we're headed towards 2 weeks of insufferable Patriots fans, Maye's little monkey face wife baking cookies, Portnoy's gloating and being told a million times how the Jets effed up letting Darnold go.

How much is enough? Every time I think it's the worst, there's another level.

Yeah…it’s gonna be rough. I heard on a podcast recently an anecdote that I had forgotten. When the Jets beat the Patiots in a meaningless game a few years ago, it enabled the Patriots to get the third pick and draft Maye.

And of course…when the Patriots bottom out…they get the third pick when there is 3 top flight quarterbacks available. The Jets get the second pick in a year that only has one top QB.

Sigh. I am just glad I don’t live in the northeast anymore.

I just read that Mike Lafleur is one of the top candidates for the Arizona HC job. Mike Lafleur.

It would be amazing if both Saleh and Lafleur got hired this cycle.

so Joe Brady is the HC at buffalo and Daboll is going to Saleh's OC in Tennessee.

Brady is a bit of a risk.

Hmmm. Firing McDermott for Brady doesn't seem like it improves Buffalo's Super Bowl chances much. Same sort of culture, same offense.

From the outside, it looks like Buffalo has really screwed the pooch on the Josh Allen era.

.-.
The Bills had their window and blew it. Allen on the wrong side of 30 and now a resurgent Pats team in the division. And Pegula may be dumber than Woody.
I'm already resigned to another 2-5 win season next year with AG a dead man walking. Tomlin and McDermott will be available. On to 2027.
