The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

I can fault Cashman for lots of things, but I've always liked the way he does the bullpen. You can find bullpen arms out there relatively cheaply. He'll replace those non-tendered guys with a collection of good arms, and it'll be rinse and repeat. The days of having a Mendoza, Stanton, Nelson, Rivera anchored type of bullpen are long gone.

I thought it was a good baseball move to give the QO, as I didn't expect Grish to accept it. And now he has. And I'm relatively certain Trent will revert to being a 200 hitter with 14 meaningless HRs for 22 million/year. Gross.
I have the exact same feeling w/ Cashman re: Bullpen. The staff does a nice job finding diamonds in the rough.

Honestly, I don't hate the QO for Grisham. It's just a one-year commitment.

He's a no-brainer start against RHP (.869 OPS) and I like his defense even though his metrics are starting to go the other way and Judge can play CF the days Grisham sits for LHP. Yanks just need to add an OF who can hit well against LHP (looking at you, Cody Bellinger!)

Tons of talent, but literally never healthy. The only time he's ever been healthy was five seasons ago.

I was hoping Grish wouldn’t re-sign because I think last year was a mirage, but $22mil is a lotta lettuce to turn down. They say it doesn’t make a difference in our pursuit of other free agents but I can’t imagine that’s true. It complicates things in the OF especially if we’re truly trying to get Belli back. I’d like to see what Spencer Jones can do in the big leagues soon. I know he strikes out a ton so he’ll fit right into our lineup in that sense, but by all accounts, he also rakes. The Martian is nowhere near as good as advertised and plays OF like I did in slow pitch softball (badly…although I also hit bombs) so I’m ready to use him as trade bait.

If George was alive (rest his soul) he's sign Tucker for LF, Bellinger for CF!
He'd trade for Donovan from the Cardinals for SS!
He'd sign Bregman for 3B!
And Reamuto for C with Rice on 1st!
And he'd get at least 2 starting pitchers and 1 bullpen guy!
But Hal wants to get richer not win the World Series!
The Yankees are the richest team in MLB, 3.1 Billion $ and he cries poverty! The hell with the tax penalty, win the WS while Judge and Cole are still alive!
In 2009 they spent a lot but won the WS!

I didn't want Grisham because I was hoping that somehow Jasson or Jones would be able to become legit young stars. I feel like the Yankees have generally given their young players about 12 minutes to prove whether or not they can play (unless you're Volpe, who will probably be our starting SS, hitting 210, until he's 40). With Grisham back, it just makes the leash even shorter for any young OF because I believe we will bring back Belli, and our OF will be set. They're going to play Grisham. But I think last season, which is a bit overrated to begin with, is an extreme outlier.

At the same time, we have absolutely wasted the prime of one of our all-time greats, and we are in win-now mode. So if we can flip Jones and/or Jasson for something that will put us there, then so be it. The future is not particularly bright, and our young talent is a bit iffy moving forward. I'm not a ridiculous Rice believer. ERC has some potential, but still has to survive our terrible pitching development system, and who the hell knows if Lombard will be able to hit.

Devin Williams: For a bunch of people that didn’t want me back on your team, [y’all] sure are mad in the [DMs]
Boba: Bye!
Mets fans: Please don't bring Williams in, he'll blow the lead...

As a Mets fan I don’t mind the move. Insurance if Diaz doesn’t come back. Not a huge money impact. Solid setup if Diaz does come back. And aside from all of that, he can’t be worse than Helsley.

it’s a great move he found his way after a rough start and is solid at worst. Cashman is a moron!

I'm ambivalent about it. Devin Williams wasn't anything close to what we wanted when we acquired him, but I think the Mets got him for a market-value deal. Definitely not a "Cashman is a moron" type move, to me.

Most of his moves and non moves are now moronic sorry he’s not very good at his job. Williams showed signs of getting back to where we expected, could have used him no matter. I mean he resigns guys who bat .210 every year why not give baseballs best closer a year ago another shot?

I was glad they let Williams walk. Dude threw gas on more fires than he put out. He’s not cut out for the bright lights of the Bronx.

Checking a few sources, Imai ranks as a top-5 SP UFA this offseason and his pitching style, low ERA and decent K rates are akin to Senga/Kikuchi/Kuroda before they started at the MLB level.

Mid-to-upper 90s fastball with a slider, splitter and change.

Weaver has followed Devin Williams across town to sign with the Mets. Guy was amazing a couple of seasons ago when he helped the team to the World Series. I think Boone overworked him down the stretch, but they don't make the Series without him. I wish him luck.

Yeah he was lights out two years ago but couldn’t find it consistently last year and that’s a lot of cheddar for someone who may or may not bounce back. Guess Bedner is the full time closer for now?
