The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

When Pablo Reyes started the season on the opening lineup, my first thought was "why the heck waste a roster spot on him, he's awful!" but then I just checked his career splits and the righty-hitting Reyes has a career .777 OPS against LHP in 197 ABs, which is pretty darn impressive.

Oswaldo Cabrera has a .573 career OPS against LHP, so considering both guys can play basically any position, outside of catcher/pitcher, I can see that working for a bit.

What a horrible lineup lol. Jazz 4th Volpi 5th that’s laughable. How to protect Aaron.

As I told a coworker (who is fully committed to metrics driven lineups) at the beginning of this week, even if I did agree with the current philosophy on leadoff hitters, I'm not sure putting a catcher, who will miss ~25% of the games makes sense as this is a spot where you would want stability.

Evidently they're planning on RHP/LHP lineups, but the last thing I expected when they signed Goldschmidt was to see him bat leadoff.

What the frick is with these mlb-approved Torpedo bats?

The design is driven by analytics. The barrel of the bat is at a customized portion of the bat where that particular batter usually makes barrel contact.

Not all of the Yankees use them at the moment. Judge uses a traditional bat.

All I can think of.

Over the past few years I'm impressed with Yankee fans ability to jump on and off the bandwagon with such alacrity.

I’m not one of them I’ve been consistently off the bandwagon that’s for sure. Red Sox fans are much worse I play golf and hang around nothing but Sawks people expectations have been low of late.

No way. Sox fans are too loyal, it took much grousing to make the Sox start spending some money. You guys even jump off the bandwagon in years when the Yankees win the pennant. Like last year. I figure you might want to hook up with coachcap to learn about ankle replacements.

You would believe that as maybe you are, but the Sox fans I know are unbelievable.

Win the pennant big deal, how about fielding a team that can win a WS? Cashman hasn’t spent money wisely at all same ol crappy .230 HR hitters (minus baseballs best in Judge) and guys who can’t hit in October as you say.

Strong ankles here!;)

The Reds Elly De La Cruz jacked 2 Homer's tonight and drive in seven.

With a Torpedo bat.

It IS a big deal. But I know what you're saying. Everything is all or nothing these days.

Well Waq seriously when you continuously make the playoffs year after year and prove your team isn’t very good in a series against better pitching your GM needs to reconsider his approach. Stop getting older no longer very good players who are lucky to hit .230. Cashman hasn’t and he’s been awful, shouldn’t have that job anymore but until he leaves it’s going to be the same ol, same ol!

Interesting to read on ESPN that Giancarlo Stanton was using a "torpedo" bat last season. By the level of churn I've seen about the Yanks and these bats recently, I didn't realize that they weren't new.

Coming down from the high and the reality is this team is incapable of winning close games. Yes it’s one game and you will lose games but we know Boones track record in close games.

I headed up to Hartford this afternoon to brave the rain and catch Somerset play the Yardgoats.

Didn’t hit me until we arrived that Clarke Schmidt started for a rehab start and he was on fuego. 7 Ks in 3.1 innings. Also, another game catching Spencer Jones having a great afternoon, two hard hits.

Spencer Jones is in AA?

This can't be good.
