The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

I don't disagree with you about the bad rap. It bothers me that he's had his career derailed by what appears to be a false accusation. That said, it's not been just the Yankees that have passed on this guy. Innocent or not, signing him brings a lot of heat and I'm not talking about the mph on his fastball.
What made the Yankees the Yankees is they would be willing to take risks that no one else would take, one of those risks was Darryl Strawberry in 95 and won 3 World Series with him.

How about Doc Gooden who snorted enough coke to kill a small horse?

From a public relations perspective, there is a Grand Canyon-sized gulf between a drug user and someone accused of sexual assault. One can be viewed as a reclamation project. The other not as much. Again, I'd be OK with the signing as Bauer has been found not guilty, but the level of heat it would bring would be immense.

billythekid- - That's why they pay public relations people a heck of a lot of $, just to make Bauer's case to the public!
The Yankees need good starting pitchers and he's available on the cheap, which will make Hal happy!
Come on Hal get us a 3rd baseman and 2 starting pitchers no matter the cost!
It's the freaking NEW YORK YANKEES!

Just read this on line:

The Yankees set a franchise record with $411.7 million in ticket and luxury suite sales during the 2024 season. This marked a 39.8 percent increase compared to the 2023 campaign.

Just during the World Series against the Dodgers, the New York Yankees raked in $101.9 million in ticket revenue at their venue.

But Hal is crying poverty and cannot afford to get a 3rd baseman or 2 starting pitchers!

.-.
Looks like the rotation is set:

Rodon
Fried
Stroman
Warren (let's see what we got!)
Carrasco

Ryan Yarbrough was added yesterday, which is a surprisingly solid add as a bullpen innings eater and another wonky delivery lefty to pair with Tim Hill (one of my faves).

Looks like Ben Rice will start the year as the designated hitter, but I'd expect the Yankees to add a right-handed bench piece before Thursday.

I saw Yarbrough for years as a Ray. You will love this guy. We miss him. But then again, we miss everybody.

(I know just how Brian Daucher feels right now)

I'm glad NY added Ryan Yarbrough, but I'm still waiting for Hal to open the pursue strings and get a 3rd baseman and 3 starting pitchers! He's still crying poverty!
He's a cheap Bast--d!

When Manaea and Montas got hurt, Mets fans went through the same Trevor Bauer conversation.

On one hand, the guy has definitely paid the price for the mess he was in. And he's said he'll pitch for the league minimum to prove his worth.

On the other hand, he's still shooting the fingerguns and cussing out hitters and acting like an all-around jerk on the mound. I think you need the right clubhouse to temper/absorb him. You'd know better than me, but I'm not sure the Yankees are that tight knit and strong leadership wise to do that. Stroman still shoots his mouth off and he's miles behind what you'd get with Bauer.

Yankees are unwilling to take any risks, that's cool another team will win the World Series once again.

Sorry guys but this is an awful baseball team both offensively and defensively. Your .230 hitting catcher leading Off? Lol

The NYY are a walking train wreck under the cheap, callous ownership of Prince Hal!
We will never win a World Series as long as he guards the purse strings!
I've been a Yankee fan since 1958 and the last 5 years they're pushing me out the door!
Ever since they didn't even interview JT Riamuto, the best catcher in MLB and Bryce Harper when they were both free-agents!

Bauer is 35 and has not pitched in MLB since 2021. Whatever he would offer, he'd consume more by being a clubhouse circus and PR nightmare. As much as it sucks for fans, with Cole45 out for the year, the Yankees' ceiling is likely the 2nd or 3rd wild card, at best. They are loaded financially as they are every season, but it does not make pragmatic sense to throw good money after bad for a net negative.

This is misleading. It's not like he was hurt or demoted for poor performance. In Japan and Mexico, he's gone 21-4 with a 2.49 ERA, 280 Ks and 55 BBs in 240 IP. His arm and stuff are still there.....regardless of him being a headcase, of course.

Are you related to Hal?

Japan's and Mexico's top divisions = AAA. AAAA at best.

As a Red Sox fan, I've experienced it for the last three seasons. Particularly at the trade deadline.

When Pablo Reyes started the season on the opening lineup, my first thought was "why the heck waste a roster spot on him, he's awful!" but then I just checked his career splits and the righty-hitting Reyes has a career .777 OPS against LHP in 197 ABs, which is pretty darn impressive.

Oswaldo Cabrera has a .573 career OPS against LHP, so considering both guys can play basically any position, outside of catcher/pitcher, I can see that working for a bit.

What a horrible lineup lol. Jazz 4th Volpi 5th that’s laughable. How to protect Aaron.

As I told a coworker (who is fully committed to metrics driven lineups) at the beginning of this week, even if I did agree with the current philosophy on leadoff hitters, I'm not sure putting a catcher, who will miss ~25% of the games makes sense as this is a spot where you would want stability.

Evidently they're planning on RHP/LHP lineups, but the last thing I expected when they signed Goldschmidt was to see him bat leadoff.

What the frick is with these mlb-approved Torpedo bats?

The design is driven by analytics. The barrel of the bat is at a customized portion of the bat where that particular batter usually makes barrel contact.

Not all of the Yankees use them at the moment. Judge uses a traditional bat.

All I can think of.
