The Official 2025 New York Giants Thread

One of the best days we've had since the second Super Bowl vs. the Pats. Per Connor Hughes, the Giants have told Harbaugh he has a blank checkbook to get the staff he wants.

Now I wonder if having a guy like Harbaugh makes us tilt toward S Caleb Downs out of Ohio State and hope he turns into our version of Hamilton with Baltimore. Or do they go with the top WR to go with Nabors and make a ridiculous 1-2 punch for Dart to utilize.

The future if finally very bright again.

Getting Harbaugh is amazing, Giants immediately become a lot more attractive to free agents now which is big. Hopefully Tyler Linderbaum and Isaiah Likely really loved playing for Harbaugh.

Todd Monken is also going to be an unbelievable OC for Dart

I'm feeling Tom Coughlin vibes, as in very stoked that an experienced, capable coach with a very good track record is coming in. Also love the fit personnel-wise as Dart = Jackson 2.0 (I obviously can't expect Dart to be that good, but here's to hoping!)

So let me just say, he is clearly the far and away best HC option out there and I’d have taken him in the blink of an eye.

That said, just for conversation, how many Super Bowl winning head coaches have won at the stop after their SB win? These guys failed.

Mike Shanahan
Jon Gruden
Bill Parcells
Mike Holmgren
Dick Vermeil
Tom Coughlin

The only coach to win a ring with the team after he won his first ring is Don Shula.

Where did Shula win his first ring? Or are you fishing for some Jet praise (Super Bowl III)?

What the Giants have needed most for basically the past decade is having an adult in charge. Harbaugh accomplishes this.

We may not be able to solve all personnel weaknesses this offseason, but a good draft and the right second tier free agent signings could put us one good draft away from making a decent run in the playoffs.

Shula won an “NFL Championship” with the Colts in 68. That’s the closest time a coach has done it.

Only 14 coaches have won more than one. Including championships (Lombardi). Both Reid and Belichick won theirs at a stop that wasn't their first. Siefert and Belichick both won as coordinators. Reid won as an assistant and went to the Super Bowl in Philly (won 4 division titles).

Point is, I wouldn't worry about it. Somebody will do it eventually. Great hire for the Giants. I think he'll do much better with Dart than Lamar. While Lamar can do amazing things, his style doesn't really lend itself to playoff success.

Clearly, I would not worry about it and you're right. Someone will do it.

I guess my point is, you need a confluence of a lot of things (including some luck) to win even one. Injuries, a good/bad bounce, a FG in a driving snowstorm, a big seed to lose before you play them, etc. All you can ask of Harbaugh is to create a winning culture and put yourself in the best position to succeed year after year, which he's more than proven he can do.

Signed and on the same reporting level as Schoen. Good hopefully they work together

I still can't believe that was the holdup.

There's no guarantee that Schoen will be around for the long term. They were willing to pay Harbaugh significantly above market for half a decade but weren't sure if they would be willing to give him equal authority to a guy who still needs to prove he's worth keeping?

I don't think the holdup was whether they would, but when you're drawing up a brand new structure for your organization it takes a little longer to outline how it'll all look

So this will probably end the 2025 Giants thread but just saw the release of the interaction between Steve Tisch and Epstein - not pretty. Wish he spent more time thinking about his team.
