All a matter of opinion, which I respect, but when push came to shove she was sitting the pine.
I thk Geno used a quicker pressure defense to speed the Golden Eagles up, seems like they ran outta steam in the fourth . Jmo

Well, most likely Azzi and Dorka will get most votes, and I can't really disagree. Yet, watching Nika crash the boards keeping forwards and her mark busy boxing her out, making plays, playing defense, cheering her team on, she gets my vote. Amazingly, this team has taken on Nika's character over the last 5 games or so. Gritty, tough, hard nosed, never give up. A real spit in your eye type of team. A far different identity than they were before Jan 1st.
I was going to post something tongue-in-cheek that Nika was the badass because she kept her enthusiasm despite teammates having missed about four bunnies when she'd passed the ball to them within two feet of the basket.

My badass award goes to Azzi and Dorka. Dorka was on fire on defense and offense. Azzi the 3 point specialist was also slashing to the basket. She is proving more and more why she was the number #1 player in the country. Suddenly Hall and Oates popped in my head "Man eater" :).

If that’s true that someone slow-footed as Dorka would be sitting. Thing is she came to play and Edwards, despite those ‘robust stats’ quoted, made too many mistakes earlier to be on the floor in Q4. But your point is well taken that Marquette doesn’t have the bench nor the stamina to play 4 quarters of pressure bball.

And with her being the only post, rebounder, and clog in the middle , im curious to know who you would send out to get posted up for easy baskets? Would've been a great game to have Audrey. Defense wins games, offense determines the margin of victory.

Aaliyah was not a no show. She had 7 rebounds, 3 offensive, 3 assists and 2 blocks. The scoring wasn’t there but everything else was fine

Absolutely…. People think if you don’t score you didn’t play well. Some need to learn scoring isn’t everything

Absolutely, you don't have to score to play well. In this case both perspectives are correct, Aliyah did not score nor did she play well. If she had played well she would not have sat the entire 4th and decisive quarter in what was a closely contested game in which she started and played 25 of the first 30 minutes of the game.

Saw this recap by a Marquette reporter. In analyzing what really hurt them, he came up with an interesting mix

1) Azzi Fudd but in her case, he felt it was a sought of quiet game until you looked at the stats
2) Evina Westbrook. Really thought she was very impactful and was all over. Maybe showing coach she should not be a bench player

Got to say, how do you not see a 6-5 player who is wiping the floor with you over all 4Q and stuffing perhaps your best player Van-Kluenen 2 times + an intercepted pass in the 4th Q is beyond me :confused::confused::confused::confused:

Not sure if Nikka will EVER rate a formal Badass award. She ALWAYS seems to play like her butt's on fire AND she's double parked.
There was a game last year (Creighton?) where she scored about 25 points in addition to her usual harassment on defense.
If you've ever seen a gang fight you always notice the big bruisers who do the most damage, but it always seems to start with the little weasel who instigates everything.

I really enjoyed his article and humor. Pretty much hit the nail on the head although I would have thought some comments on Dorca would have also been great. I was so busy enjoying UConn's run I totally didn't realize originally the 8 minute stretch where Marquette Failed to score. Great defense there. I also could not help but notice that the "highlights" video stopped at the end of the 3rd quarter haha!

Looking back at the replay, It is interesting how the one play where Dorka gets her hand on an otherwise wide open entry pass to a cutter in the post fuels the Azzi 3pt make. 5 point swing and a close game turns into a rout.

I almost agree with you. After 3 quarters I would have said clearly Dorka. But in the 4th quarter, Azzi channeled her inner Paige (dare I say inner DT?) and helped the whole team blow the doors off. After the full game it's much closer to a 50/50 pick'em, but I'll go with Azzi. Kudos to Nika, E, and everyone else.
Can't dispute what you say about the offensive surge led by Azzi, but some of those points began with a great defensive play by Dorka, whether trapping with the high hedge, deflecting a pass that another Husky gathered, blocking a shot, etc

i thought she had a bad foot. Then they said she had a wrap on her thumb that just came off that explained her bad hands earlier. Was the wrap on her shooting hand. Is that why she is shooting better? Does she still have a bad foot?

In Geno's press conference after the DePaul game, he said that Dorka has been battling continuous injuries since she got to UCONN, and she hasn't actively participated in many practices.
