The expanded College Football Playoff off to a rough start

Need to use them as a model, yes I know we don't have the ND football history but we have the UConn brand.
When UConn is good they are physical on both sides and play smashmouth on offense. We're not going to have some of the athletes as the better programs but you can go pretty far with great coaching and physicality. Notre Dame doesn't have the athletes Georgia does and they just whipped their butts physically.

I was a Notre Dame fan only for tonights game. Now I hope that Ohio St destroys Texas and Penn St beats the Irish.

Screw the SEC
Conversely, I think I'm rooting for Texas, although I could deal with a tOSU NC. But living in Pittsburgh, there's absolutely, positively no way I can root for PSU. And ND, an NC for them justifies their remaining independent, which I believe hurts us as far as joining a P4 (although I'll admit making the semifinal probably does the same).

Can’t consider Texas an SEC school. Southwest Conference all the way.

Unless UGA turns it around, all 4 teams with byes will lose their only games.
Somehow, this will be used as justification that the selection process and seeding was a success.

I’ve never been a fan of anything UT and I’ve never heard that rumor. Not saying it’s not true, just don’t remember ever hearing it. I always root for the underdog in these playoffs anyway since I don’t have a dog in the fight.
I doubt U of A would be against UConn they were devastated losing UCLA and adding UConn would salve the wound
This ASU president is more concerned with raising their academic profile than sports and we would help in that regard.

GO IRISH. ND is not Boise State. PSU will be destroyed.
Wrong again!

I can't root for PSU either. I was in a club the other night watching the PSU/Boise State game and a women came up to me and asked me who I was rooting for. Instinctively, I told her Boise State since I can't stand PSU. She was a bit shocked since she was a PSU grad. I used to follow them when they were known as linebacker U but the Sandusky issues and an annoying in-law who went to PSU changed all that.

If SMU got the death penalty for paying players, PSU should have received the death penalty as well.

That's what it has been commonly called for years. I'm not into rewriting history. Calling it something different on this message board going forward changes nothing.

Luckily for me, the only two times I saw PSU play, they lost to Pitt. The first was the only game I attended at the old Pitt bowl at the top of Cardiac Hill. 12-0. Thought JoePa was gonna have a stroke. Second game, wife and I took the trolley down to Heinz. Bunch of PSU fans in our car. Really entitled, obnoxious people, going in, during, and coming out.

That said, if UConn ever got to build out like State College, it could be amazing. And their dairy bar might be better.

Say it ain't so about the dairy bar. But my in-law did post a picture of death by chocolate at The Creamery at Penn State so I have to believe it.

I did say "maybe". But the milkshakes are fantastic.

Ehh whatever Oregon got blown out so they don't have an argument really, people just love to complain it's the American way.

This. The format is working perfectly. Anyone who reasonably had a shot to claim the title got in. No one had an easy path and they settled it on the field.

Last week the complaint was Ohio State and Penn State had to play an extra game.

This week the complaint is the teams given byes should have played earlier even though the matchups would have been effectively similar.

Any other format is just gifting seeded based on reputation and subpar SEC teams getting an easier path that they clearly don't deserve.

Bowl games have blowouts, always have and in fact that has been the norm more than not. We are just used to paying attention to fewer playoff games. Between the layoff, transfers, graduates, now the portal and the extra games. The finalists will play 16/17 games vs the old total of 12/13.

For those interested. Indiana played ND closer that UGA did and ASU as the last bye team was a missed call away from beating the consensus #3 team in Texas.

The seeding doesn't make better games but is does reward winning, so it should be kept as is.

On a UConn related note, Oregon got beat worse than UConn in it's BCS bowl and no one says they didn't belong. UConn also traveled to Phoenix just as well as Penn State did this year. I know because I was at both games.

Personally I have really enjoyed the smorgasboard of Football games available seemingly around the clock. Every chance I had to grab an hour in front of the tube, I seemed to be able to find a game that was of interest, whether a playoff or just one of the many bowls.

Wondering, did our game being on the mid to late part of the Bowl schedule impair our staffs ability to get out and Portal evaluate and recruit at these games?

Probably not.

Nowadays in December the recruits come to you, you either reach the right number or you don’t.

This Notre Dame/Penn State game tonight is a lot of fun. And to think in prior seasons Notre Dame would have been eliminated for that loss against NIU.

Dammit. Thought ND was a sure bet for a winning FG.

... but they get another chance with 33 secs left!
