The Cuse Looks Defeated Before Entering The Locker Room

I just heard Bilas mention Girard averaged 40 ppg in high school. I don’t know how competitive the NYSPHSAA , where his alma mater Glens Falls HS resides, is, but he did average 39 ppg over 4 years...50 ppg his junior year. How rare is that? I honestly don’t know.

There are some wordier explanations above.

My less wordy explanation - it’s a crap league.

Lol at what point in the game did you conclude this? I imagine it was before Nova ended the game with like 30 offensive rebounds
Not going to go as far as calling them soft, but when you miss 37 3-pointers and 52 shots, 18 offensive rebounds doesn’t seem hugely impressive.

That's a 34.6% OR% which is pretty good. That would put them at #40 in the country this year. It also looks like they had 27 offensive rebounds looking at the box score (9 team rebounds I'm guessing) so that's 51.9%

Maybe the box score I was looking at was wrong. Point being, those threes led to a lot of very long rebounds that were basically impossible for cuse to get. Not saying it’s not good, but they weren’t bullying cuse for boards like the stats make it look initially.

.-.
I thought I was dreaming when I saw the final score this morning…I guess Syracuse’s points didn’t count.

It was only a matter of time before Nova was gonna hit some shots. They had a lot of good looks in the first half.

Won my first legal sports bet tonight on Villanova -8. Wasn't super worried at half time and it wasn't even a sweat by the end.

I’d feel defeated too if my fan base tried to claim NYC as “our city” but could only sell out 72% of the worlds most famous arena.

Nova is good not great. They've looked OK all season

Game threads . . . where ice-cold takes go to . . . live forever

the NYSPHSAA is the entire Public High School association north of NYC. Includes Long Island.

The point about Girard has to be his travel league experience and not high school. In that region, you have to play with the Albany City Rocks ... and that means he was all over the country in AAU. His "league" is the Foothills council. Which is the smaller towns/cities lining the upper Hudson Valley; and not much more challenging than the Y games.

Yeah. He is following the footsteps of the "Jimmer". Wordy ... hopefully informative.

My take on last night’s game was that both teams would be tough opponents. Nova took the most 3’s they ever took and had a bad shooting night. They are not big but pass incredibly well , limit turnovers.
The Cuse has Edwards who disrupts and blocks shots plus they have guys who can make shots and as much as we hate Boeheim and his boys they’re good players.
Both will be in the tournament and both games would be uncomfortable for us with our turnovers.

Syracuse is 5-4, with terrible losses. They will not be in the tournament. And we'd beat them comfortably. It took an abnormal abysmal shooting half for Nova to only beat them by 14. They aren't good

What???!! There are TWO Boeheim sons playing for Cuse???!! Has another D1 coach ever coached two kids at the same time? Nepotism much?

Yeah Cuse sucks. They gave up 100 points to Colgate in regulation. Doesn't matter how many tough shots Jim Jr. hits if that's how you play defense.

Villanova would have been close to 100 if they hit open shots in the first half. Scored 41 easy in the second.

"The" Cuse? Is this like "The Ohio State University" now?

I always thought it was just 'Cuse.

But they won on grit and passion. If UConn threw up those bricks do they beat Cuse? I’m guessing no but who knows. Not many teams in college basketball win with shooting percentages like that

Syracuse's only chance lies with a really weak ACC this year. IF they can be top 4 they have a chance because the tournament gods wouldn't be able to fathom anything less than 4 teams from the ACC in the tournament.

With those zones and the reach that his starting 5 have I wouldn’t count Cuse out. If they have to go to the bench they are toast. I remember last season most all here said Cuse wouldn’t make the dance but in the end their dance cards had a few more punches than UConn’s. I despise Cuse but they beat IU and FSU so l am not placing them in the suck category as quickly as you.

I’m not sure what that has to do with long rebounds coming off of 3 pointers. I’m not disparaging Nova in any way. They won a game where both teams had terrible shooting nights by getting up almost as many 3s as Cuse had total attempts. They’re clearly a better team with far better ball movement and talent.

If we had their same resume and team you'd be depressed. They're terrible. Nova had a brain fart in the first half. Once they started playing competent offense they made cuse look like a D2 team

I could find points of agreement with any of the preceding dozen or so posts, even though many are in strong disagreement with each other.

Nonetheless, this post above is the wild card possibility that isn't too far afield from what we saw last March.

Villanova's closeout was like a reverse of 'regressing to the mean,' and showed them running Cuse out of the building in a way that wasn't surprising and tempered some of my earlier feelings that Nova isn't all that good.

Combining stats from two different games, Colgate & Villanova were 31/93 on 3-pointers. Perhaps in the divine allotment, the Raiders made some of the Wildcats' threes. Still, two losses for Otto.

In tandem with another local team! To be fair we’ve had our share of Nov/Dec games at MSG with sparse crowds.

Yeah that one vs Syracuse in that random “tire company classic” in 2016 was like only half full.

this happens every year for the last 6/8 years. They have terrible losses for 1/2 the season, they beat duke at home and have another solid win, finished 2 games over .500, finish around 8/10, and they make the tourney where they go on a run to where they say it proves they were a tourney team all season.

It's annoying and sad lol
