These lists are fun. How about this one. The players that JC recruited that were hyped up to be the savior of the program but never delivered.

1. Ajou Ajou Deng - Billy Packer once called him the best player on the team before he ever played a game.

2. Andre Drumund - The man child just didn't have the fundamentals down yet to deliver for us last year. Maybe if he had stayed, he would have....

3. Doug Wrenn - An all everything player, that got into too much trouble and was shown the door

4. Nate Miles - We don't need to go there

5. Gilad Katz - the third Israeli, that was suppose to be in the mold of Doron Sheffer, but wasn't.

6. Ater Majok - Well, he could guard a chair

7. Justin Brown - The thunder from down under. JC kept hyping him, but he never delivered

Scottie Haralson was supposed to be the next Rashad Anderson. I doubt he made more than five 3-pointers before he transferred.

It's hard to pick against Ajou Ajou and Majok. Drummond's numbers are better but he deserves to be in the conversation.

8. Doug Wiggins

9. Curtis Kelly
I agree with everything said in the original post. But, I really believe that if Curtis Kelly stayed all 4 yrs, he would have been a solid player. We saw this when he went to KState but i guess it was just one of those situations where he needed a change of scenery.

Yes, he was known as a 3 point specialist but not ranked as an elite recruit. Anderson was a consensus top 25 player

Wiggins had real talent he just couldn't stay off the weed or burglaries

He drained like a 35 footer at the final buzzer when we were up by 35 and Calhoun yanked him and never played him again lol

I think Wiggins was only hyped because we stole him from St. Johns. He wasn't even a top 100 player.

Nate Miles definitely shouldn't be on this list if we're just talking about talent. If he was able to stay in school (obviously a big if) he probably would've made the top 50 overall list, considering he was arguably the most talented player on a team that ended up making it to a final four.

lol I remember that. The crowd went nuts and Calhoun was furious. You could even see him apologize to the opposing coach in the handshake line.

As much as I like Drummond as a guy, he would definitely be my number 1. It's not that he had a horrible season, but he was ranked number two in the nation and he was supposed to help carry the team. He was just all-hype.

Hazelton was a McDonald's All-American, if you can believe it.

Rudy Johnson was the Florida POY, somehow.

And of course Denham Brown once scored 111 points in a high school game (but at least he ended up being a real contributor).

Scott Hazelton and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel

Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and Hazelton are great calls..........all hype is tough so Ajou and Ater need to be on there........Wrenn and Wiggins were good players buut couldn't stay out of trouble so they don't belong........

Curtis Kelly needs to be near the top......Justin Brown and Gilad Katz? No, along with Marc Suhr there not huge expectations just hope of improvement and some minutes..........

I know I will get crap but AO deserves a mention......what did he do last year? yeah he has a a NC blah blah blah.....but what was the hype after he received the ring and how did he respond? Andre too, although if he had another year I expect he would have improved.........still not what I thought last year.........

Oh and how soon we forget, did Denham Brown ever come close to scoring 111 points in a game???? Big letdown!!!:D

How does this list not have Marcus White?

He wasn't bad.........he wanted to play more and left for Purdue and was decent there too.....I see what you're saying but I'm not sure he was real highly touted but could be wrong.......

Well it was mainly about the constant gushing that Blaney and JC did, "he's our best rebounder" when I wasn't a big fan of his rebounding, call it a "me thing" didn't see his potential at all.

All good, didn't live up to the "hype" which sometimes came after getting to Storrs and not necessarily in the HS rankings, from the coaches!! You're right!

Gotta have Ed Nelson, the ACC Rookie of the Year.

Eh I don't know about that one. Nelson was a monster down low his whole career. He just played behind Boone, Villanueva, Armstrong, Gay, and Adrien.

This talk of Drummond being the most overhyped played ever is quite ridiculous. It's not like he was laying up goose eggs the entire year ,he had his moments. Coaches and teammates moving in and out of the picture didn't help
