Defender clearly whacked Faris' arm.
Replay shows the contact without doubt.
I just didn't see it. And I watched the replay multiable times.
Body on body contact, as well as lots of other contact in the game, is not a foul because no advantage is created. Contact that creates an advantage is callable as a foul. Doesn't mean refs will call every one of them - sometimes they set the bar pretty high.

Having said that, anyone who construes that play as anything other than a foul on the MD player needs to have their head examined. It was without question the worst non-call I can remember seeing. And yes I have ref'd (at the high school level not college, but still).
Thank you somebody finally giving an explained answer. I guess I'm the only one who thinks it wasn't a foul, wow.

One of my pet peeves is the offensive player with the ball jumping headlong into the defender to draw the whistle. ND is expert at this. But on a drive with two players in the air, this is where the shooter is afforded the most latitude, unless they smack the defender in the mouth with their off elbow, etc.

MD player made a good hard play on the ball. No intent to injure, no flagrant, nothing like that. But her angle was from the side, changed Kelly's momentum and sent her to the floor with the body and did not "beat her to the spot" or anything like that. Especially bc the play was not obscured or in traffic, I was literally shocked at the non-call.

You are correct, body to body contact isn't a callable foul on most plays. However, when you go through someones body to get to the ball it is a foul. That's why when 2 bigs are banging for post position they don't usually call a foul, but when the defender reaches over or around to get to the ball it's almost always called a foul.

That's what she did with Faris, she went through her to get to the ball.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Or posts!

We had seats right there and theres no question it was a foul. Not sure if I've ever heard louder boos on the refs after that no call. HforL is about to get the "ignore" button.

That's good. Though I think you've been proven incorrect on this one, seeing as fans on both the women's board AND the men's board have indicated it was a foul, which it was. The most physical one there's been? No, but it was a foul, and it's called on every level.

Compare the uncalled foul by Hawkins against Kelly at :07.5 to the foul called on Breanna Stewart at 1:07 in the first half. I guess it does depend on the color of the jersey.

Why would I make a thread if I did not see the play?
To be an @ss. Because you are a troll. Because you are an idiot. To prove the point that no matter how stupid one's posts are on the internet, people will answer them.

Any of them would work.
I simply have nothing additional to add to meyers' reply. One of the admins needs to change his handle from "Huskyforlife" to "Moronforlife". To be honest, I'm embarrassed that he professes to be a UCONN fan. Hmm... I guess I did have something additional to add...

I guess you have to show a knife at a mugging to get whistled for a foul.

While the foul on Kelly was pretty obvious and caused the crowd to boo the refs, I though the fact the refs let the teams play favored UConn overall. UConn was all over the Maryland post players and could have easily fouled out a person or two. Maryland wanted a physical game, well, UConn gave them one.

Wow, what an awful thread. The lack of civility reminds me of some of the stuff that gets written at the bottom of ESPN tweets. Let's go watch Stanford or something.

Maj Forsberg was along the baseline staring straight at the foul on Hawkins against Faris, as we're both Eric Brewton and Vaszilly. Three blind mice.

Huskyforlife, you are clueless. You and the blind refs are the only ones who didn't think it was a foul. You're beyond needing glasses. Why don't you break out the football pads and helmet.
