Texas Post Game Thread

Mind you this was our 4th game in 9 days. 3 of those games were Texas, Kansas, and Florida. The team was tired in the 2nd half
We started to put a little distance between us and them as soon as we we put our bench in at the 15 minute mark or so of the first half, you could see Texas laboring. I love how we wear teams out, I would like to see us give one of Furphy, Koroma, or Millender a few minute stint in the 2nd half, when the other team is sucking wind to not only rest our guys up for the stretch run but maybe give us a quick shot in the arm. When Jaden Ross came in with fresh legs in the second half, it paid immediate dividends. Those other guys are not slouches, I think expanding our rotation to 10 players helps us more than it hurts us.

Perhaps glad I missed this. I managed to see the final 3 minutes on my phone. This is a good team that seems to have some stuff to work out. All we can do is hope those kinks get fixed in time.

The Double Boo-Yaaaah!!

After Solo’s different zip code 3, then Reed’s block, anyone notice Karaban calling for the pass pre-dagger 3? AK was behind mid court, the Jonathan ear, and at the Madison Reed ad when his arm shot up beckoning Malachi to pass the ball. Awesome sequence!

You just knew that one was going in. It seems like Karaban always hits on momentum opportunities like that!

10-1 with our only loss to the #1 team in the country is a record 100% of us would’ve signed up for at the start of the season without even factoring in our injuries. What a great start to the season
A loss to #1 Arizona with two starters out, arguably our two best/most talented.

I still think we are really good. But then I watch a game like this and I’m not sure. I haven’t seen the team like Michigan or Duke lay an egg against a really bad team yet.
To say that means you think Texas is bad or you didn't watch Wake Forest against Michigan. Wake would have won it except their point guard repeatedly tried to drive inside against Michigan's huge front line only to turn it over

They're not at all a bad team but Duke should've lost at home to Florida. We handled Florida better.

Seems weird to care more about aesthetics than W’s.
Exactly. I wonder if any of them even played pick,up games. Every game is different and every match up, is different. Winning is fun. Worrying about things that are less than perfect is what coaches do.

Fourth big game in a row where I'm very grateful for Malachi when Demary has disappointed.

Also, nice to see Stewart have a solid game off the bench with the exclamation point at the end.
I’m thinking Silas is putting too. Much pressure on himself like the big transfer he replaced. I feel way better with smith in there right now. But now conference play begins. Time to let the new guys grow. Gonna be a battle for 6th man with smith and Stewart.

Mullins/Stewart combo had 20, and UConn is going to win a lot of games when that number is 20 and above.

I’d slightly change that to 10-15 from Stewart/Ross (combined) and this team is going to win a lot of games. UConn will need bench production and those two are icing on the cake in terms of bench production with Mal and Reibe playing great off the bench.

I have a feeling Mullins will consistently be around 8-12 with a few great games as well.

In Michigan’s last 5 games against P5 opponents they’ve won by

40
30
40
41
28

They’re insane right now.
They move the ball incredibly well…. If someone is OPEN, they give it to them… they don’t sit and pound the ball and over dribble.

If our team doesn’t this, same result…. But starts at the PG spot!!!

Our offensive efficiency keeps going down, hopefully Mullins starting and Reed continuing to get healthy will turn the offense back into a top 10 unit, but we really need Demary to figure it out to win a championship.

Not concerned at all. Reed is a beast and he's simply not a beast in this form. Silas is seriously going through it. He's legitimately not good right now but I know he's a really good player that's all jumbled up trying to be the guy in our system.

Braylon is riduloulsy talented but he's slight of build and he's trying to figure out how to get his as the offense isn't clicking yet. He's probably not a dude who automatically gets his off the dribble, thay will be tough as this stage in his development. His handle is a bit loose other than one or two dribbles and he's slight but if he has space and guys are finding him where he wants to be to score, look the hell out. He can score like crazy.

I don't know when it will happen but it's kind of like a great stew/chili/Sunday gravy it takes a lot of time and simmering/stirring/leave it overnight etc.

This is all going to take time but the great thing is we whooped up on the tough out of conference schedule with only maybe a handful of our ingredients. I will never take the Big East lightly but it is down this year more than I've ever seen it outside of St. John's. No road game is easy or a gimme but I think we will be able to define roles, make players more comfortable in what they really are and get a cohesiveness when it's not going against Kansas, Illinois, Florida every night.

We don't have that third body big as Chief and some other posters have pointed out but it shouldn't matter once Reed is up to speed, we have two 6'11 guys in Reed and Reibe, and that's enough...

The real key to unlocking all of this is Silas figuring it out. I don't want to put it on his shoulders but a lot of the championship formula is him figuring out how to be the guy who can facilitate and score because he has the ability to do both. We're still a contender to win the whole thing if he's not fully up to speed but we become a bit of cheat code if he becomes the guy who can get in the lane and find shooters, pull up for jumpers, finish etc. The defense is way better than last year, the offense just hasn't clicked yet.

It was like they never officiated a game before.

One of the blocking fouls we got the Texas play lunged into Stewart with elbow out and Stewy’s called for a foul? For what exactly?

And that Texas center nearly mauled Reed and Reibe - that was fine but he got every call no matter how light contact.

The officiating made that game miserable to watch.
Meh. He wanted many many more with the ridiculous reaction to everything like he was being mauled by a bear.

LOL, what I found funny, he was initiating contact, mauling Reid/Reibe and then you’re right, he was like “Can you believe this, look what they are doing to me, refs?!”

The refs we so gullible and missed so many of his initial fouls, only to call the last one where our players were essentially defending themselves LOL

I didn't expect Texas defense to be so good. Or were we playing poor offense. Well, an ugly win is still a win.
They weren't... until they were. UConn had 30 points at the 8 minute mark of the first half and then proceeded to score only 41 points the other 28 minutes
