Texas Post Game Thread

I didn't expect Texas defense to be so good. Or were we playing poor offense. Well, an ugly win is still a win.

I don’t like that play that we run where we pass up on three or four good looks, and then run the shot clock down to zero to get a violation.
Seems like we would rather run the clock down than shoot at times. This may be where Mullins is a key in tight games.

Took the “they don’t have the killer instinct” critique a bit too literally with all the fouls.

.-.
That sequence of shot clock buzzer deep 3, block shot & rebound, followed by another 3 was so nice to see. I ain't even saying anything about the refs/fouls, this team is good enough we win.

I still think we are really good. But then I watch a game like this and I’m not sure. I haven’t seen the team like Michigan or Duke lay an egg against a really bad team yet.

Laying an egg against a really bad team is a hilarious way to describe this win. Just pure lunatic . Kudos.

What was all the angst about Tarris’s passing? He’s less bouncy than he was against BYU and I suspect a little gimpy but he’s a weapon in the half court.

Not the most beautiful performance but these guys know how to win games. Happy for Stewart who played well. Braylon is such a weapon shooting the ball it’s nuts but he’s got to stay on the court.

Pretty pleased with the OOC and anyone who says they wouldn’t have taken this record a month ago is lying. Especially given the injury issues.

Did you watch Iowa v Iowa state game? Every great team is going to struggle with a not so great team at some point.

A very strong start in his first start, Braylon Mullins will be unstoppable if his S&C improves.
Hurley should add more sets to give Mullins more shots, and maybe some ISO plays...

this is a good Texas team.
No…,they are not

For Matt Potter being a blind bastard. UConn did foul more than Texas, but Texas should not have had that large of a discrepancy in their favor.

I think the last foul of the game on Ball at end of the game was kind of telling. We all watched it? What exactly woudn’t you blow whistle?

That was a weirdly officiated game like they were trying to keep it close… hmmmmm…

I don’t care about any ratings. What I saw for that 7-8 minute stretch in the first half tells me we are getting there. It told me a 35-40 minute of playing like that is coming and it is going to be ugly for the other team. This is like another version, this year if you are going to get us you better get us now. This team healthy is a top 3 team easy not even close. We have stars, we are deep and we have great role players.

When this puzzle hits the floor with all the pieces in the right place we will be devastating!

I'd imagine Hurley was complaining about the under 50 seconds where Texas was trying to play tough D with a foul to give and nothing was called until they HAD to. Even the dribble out the clock at the end we were getting hit.

Either way, offense was crap because we were sloppy with the ball, unforced turnovers, bad decisions with the ball.

I really thought our depth would wear teams down and we'd pull away in 2nd half's.

Turns out our depth only provides competent replacements for foul trouble.
These commercial breaks are so damn long now. Not sure physically wearing people down is possible - mentally wearing them down is in the cards if we run better stuff and put more pressure on them.

I think the commentators said texas had 25 fouls against Texas southern in their last game. Hard to believe their defense cleaned up their foul problems that quickly.
Not really. Playing UConn fixes it. Refs guarantee it

This is his chance to showcase his skills and make a case that he is a pro player. It’s a lot of pressure. He has shown glimpses and has the talent, but he is struggling to be consistent.
In the first few games and into the BYU game he showed a quick and powerful burst to the rim. Haven’t seen that as much since

I don't know what happened to our offense in the 2nd half. Just absolutely putrid.

I've said "ugly win, but a win is a win" to often this year, one of these ugly games is going to go against us sooner or later.
I think they changed to a very aggressive tight defense from a more relaxed one. That broke up or prevented any rhythm. It's something we will see more of if we don't make them pay by more cutting and off the ball movement.
