Texas Post Game Thread

I think the commentators said texas had 25 fouls against Texas southern in their last game. Hard to believe their defense cleaned up their foul problems that quickly.
Miller is a good coach.

Kenpom and Torvik have Texas in the 40-46 range---tournament bubble tean. They are good. We are really good and can play not our best and win ny 8. people on this board need to get a grip
Ahem, this is The Boneyard, grips are subjective and sometimes involve liquids without containers. Be thankful for what you (we) have.

Every single year people complain about the refs.

Every single year by March, the whistle has all but disappeared and we’re still one of the most aggressive teams in the country on defense. I will always take that, even if it costs us a game or two during the regular season.

Malachi was great distributing again, but our PGs had a lot of boneheaded plays today with awful ball security.

Reed looked better winded. Karaban had a smooth 18. Jaylin Stewart with one of his best games at UConn. Solo Ball with what seems to be the craziest shot made since the Jalen Adams heave?

Slopfest. But there was truly never a point we were ever at risk in this game. Nice to win handily with your B- game.

On to the next!

Wasn’t a satisfying win since we built a double digit lead quickly and then just tread water the rest of the way. Our best spurt was a 40 foot bomb from Solo followed by a semi break resulting in a 3 from AK before Texas got matched up.

The only offensive sets we really scored on in the last 15 minutes were two self-created Malachi shots (a drive, and the midrange pull up late) and the Mullins 18 foot fadeaway. So it leaves a little bit of a bad taste. But the nice thing about have a lead is you have margin for error and can overcome droughts.

Cant give up 13 offensive rebounds to Texas. That & the refs kept an overmatched Texas team lingering around.

Once again, UConn shoots better from the field than the free throw line - need to focus!!

The PG play needs to pick-up in these ugly, physical half-court games. We need more consistent, "easy" scoring by having the PGs penetrate & dish/score and avoid the long droughts!

Tonight was a good game to prep us for the Big East games. Let's Go!!

Two made threes in the second half but they couldn’t have come at a better time.

Free throws may bite us in the you know what in a tight game.

I love Malachi Smith.
Hurley ought to have them all make 300 FTs before they leave the arena tonight. Inexcusable

I really don’t know how you could have watched that game and came away feeling uneasy about our team. This team is like so close to putting 30-35 minutes of immaculate basketball together. The number of assists we had -er made basket and any eye test by someone who has watched enough hoops clearly tells you this team has special written all over it.

We are running at like 55-65% of what we will be and I think most of us are not giving Texas enough credit. Miller knows how to coach against Hurley teams. Thus Texas team has more talent than his Xavier teams and his is a very good head coach.

They took Mullins pretty much out of the game second half. Teams see right away if Mullins gets off this team will be impossible to beat. He is good enough to make everyone on the floor better. We just need to know how to use that better. His defender is not helping at all and in a few games if a team defends us like that we are going to have answers.

Ball has to shoot better but he is a way better rebounder this year and he goes to his midrange and the hoop way better. Just needs to be more consistent.

Stewart and Ross had impactful stretches.

My only concern in Malachi and foul shooting. He has to shoot better than 75% we need that because he is better with the ball than Demary right now.

We are a legit nine deep team.

But I am seeing a lot of first year Newton with Silas right now. He will get better.

We are every teams biggest game and every team we play is very well prepared. Teams have been denying the passes up top. The way you beat this is to beat them off the dribble which we did quite a bit tonight. Sean Miller has coached against us for years and is a good coach. He definitely had a plan

Going into tonight’s action UCONN was ranked #200 out of 365 D1 teams in free throw shooting (71.0%).

They were 7-13 from the stripe tonight (54%).

^ That’s what stresses me out so far this season.

What makes me laugh is that Syracuse is currently in a three way tie for dead last (56.8%).

Some of it is getting the right people on the line. AK and Mullins shot none. Solo was 2-2.

Mullins has still only shot 3 this year, 2 at the end against Kansas when he was fouled on purpose. Hopefully he’ll find ways to get himself there as he settles in.

But Smith also has to be one of the right people.
