Tennessee 2025 season

This is also the 4th game in 9 days. The schedule is harder than last year. Caldwell teams haven’t played the best in November. That's good because you want to get better. As for player improvements look at Spearman now compared to her players at Miami or Cooper now or at South Carolina.
That was some shooting exhibition the LVs put on last night. At one point they were 3 for 28 from 3 pt land. Robertson was an awe inspiring 0-5 and 0-3 after that wonderful 17 pt performance against UT Martin coming off the bench. Sorry but this team is really going to be an underachieving lot. Lots of individual talent (probably vastly over rated) but collectively will not achieve much but hey you keep touting them.... I enjoy the counter view posting.

There is a whole week before the next game. Time to get some practice in. It has been limited due to the schedule.

As she matures with a P4 school, she will realize what type of players to recruit and not use the "Holly Warlick" method of recruiting where none of the parts fit with each other. This current team had to be rebuilt quickly with transfers but with the HS recruits, she can build something and augment with key transfers. She also has to figure out how to adjust in game with actual coaching and not just keep up the same old, same old.

There were times last night watching her when the camera showed her while losing like she was confused on what she was seeing. As I have noted in the Coaching thread, she is the youngest P4 coach and has already had success and has a program that will give her the resources to achieve. As a UConn fan, it's just too bad she's at hated Tennessee.

I did see that there was some that questioned the hire. When it was announced. I looked at her record. A impressive record at Glenville State. Even some of her teams there struggled early. A good job last bringing in the players and getting the team to a S16. She has already made some adjustments. Changing the schedule a tougher schedule. She said last year they learned nothing in November about her team. Thats a reason for the change. As for players she has now five current freshman and two coming next year. That she is building around. I think she is a really good coach. I think she will get Tennessee back into championship level. Just look around what she has done several conference championships and a natty. It's also better struggle early than late in the season.

I will say that 3 of 4 games in late Nov and early Dec should tell us a lot about this team, Nov 30-UCLA, Dec 3-Stanford, Dec 20-Louisville.

We, here on the BY are advocates for tougher opponents to test your team but over on VolNation, most of the posters were not happy with Caldwell's scheduling.

I will absolutely be watching the "revenge game" on Nov 30 and how "JB" manages.

Some UT-MTSU games in the past have been entertaining, but this is not your normal MTSU team. They already have losses to Tennessee Tech (unheard of) and Rice. They should have a good crowd on hand, though.

I enjoy hearing coach Caldwell talk basketball.

Nya Robertson with 10 made 3's today. A new program record.

Maybe this team needs time to gel and develop without Whitehorn but they better figure it out soon with the tougher opponents on the horizon. I looked at the schedule, and I can envision (or hope for) 9 losses for this team that heavily contradicts all this "sunshine and rainbow" fluff pieces you constantly post about the LV's being back. Not hardly. Heck they are 5th or lower in the SEC behind:
1. SC
2. Texas
3. LSU
4. Oklahoma

Vying with Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, to at least get a one round bye for the SEC tournament.

The further losses I envision are UCLA, Kentucky, at Ole Miss, UConn, SC, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma with other concerning games of
Stanford, Louisville and Vanderbilt. That would be 18-9 before the SECT. They will probably be 9-2 when the SEC schedule starts and 14-2 when the heart of the SEC starts with Kentucky on Jan 22. That means they go 4-7 in their last 11 regular season games. Heaven help you if you lose Stanford, Louisville or both....

The reality is Tennessee is a marginal top 25 team who will have at least 8 losses this year as their skill is significantly below these 7:
SC, Texas, LSU, UConn, UCLA, Oklahoma and Kentucky. What say you my erstwhile LV stalwart @stwainfan ? Can you show some even keeled assessment....

I think the team needed to gel a bit. Yes there are 8 new players on the team. That takes time to play the style coach wants. I think thou still early in the season. I think there have been some improvement. Yes there is still room for more improvement. The game against UCLA will be another way to see where the team is. I think the team should get better as the season goes on. I was thinking maybe 6 losses before the season. I still think that. The SEC schedule will not be easy for any team.

This is a common viewpoint among TN fans. They very conveniently forget that the same is true of their future opponents.
Is there any logical, rational reason to expect that other teams won’t improve at least as much and as fast as the Vols?

From their first game against a weak opponent to their most recent game against a weak opponent they have shot silly threes way too early in the shot clock, with a sorrowful rate of balls going through the basket.

Yes other teams should get better also. As for this team. I do think this style gives players freedom. It also takes a lot of threes. I do think they are sharing the ball more. I think they are playing better.
This was after the game at Martin.

We have talked about this ad nausea, the LV are not a good shooting team that taking more rushed shots does not help and add in the large amount of turnovers and FOULS they commit, this will not be a “gel” situation. So you said 6 losses, who are they?

I remember Caldwell saying before the season. The team was playing too fast and needed to slow down. I think they are starting to play more together. I had the losses against NC State., UCLA, UCONN, Texas, South Carolina, and LSU. I think this team can be a final four team. We will see how it goes.

Do they play any other top teams??
