I asked a question in the chatroom that was not answered. Transfer Evina Westbrook was on the bench today. I understand that because of NCAA rules, ineligible players ARE NOT allowed to travel with their team on road trips. Does this rule also apply to NCAA tournament games? Will she be allowed to travel with the team to whatever regional site they go?

The announcer called Anna the floor general. She did seems to be handing out directions a lot, almost as if she were Freshman of the Year. Hard to pick a favorite play but since both of our freshmen were spectacular, I will go with Anna’s dish under the basket to Aubrey in first quarter. But that’s just picking out one gem in a string of diamonds. Walker had a really nice pass as well.

Anna really knows how to lead her passes so the recipient is in a great position to shoot. And she seemed to make it her mission towards the end of game to get the ball to CW in positions so she could get some confidence building shots.

Started slow & flat. Four players standing around the 3 point line tossing the ball into Ono. Ono goes to the bench and instant motion offense. Totally different team.

Not sure but I seem to recall a player can travel if they pay their own way. I seem to have a recollection that Azure and/or Batouly may have done this in the FF. Of course, I could be completely off .

No. She will have to get there at her own cost. I believe Stevens and Camara did this a few years ago for the tournament when they were transfers. Same with lodging.

Natalie Butler did it a lot during her down year. I remember seeing her on the bench for a lot of road games.
Can said player travel on the team charter if she pays the cost of a round trip seat, or does she have to fly commercial, and meet them there? Anybody???????

Voters look at scoring for the most part. This kid is a game chsnger even when she doesn’t score. Easy to overlook.

You would think that coaches would value the non scoring things a player can do. But I am sure it is more based on trying to limit the awards to UConn

On their own expense as far as I know.

Jose Fernandez walked past our seats to leave the arena, during the UConn game. He said something like “See ya tomorrow, I hope we show up. Monday wasn’t any fun”. If we play like we did today, tomorrow won’t be any fun either.

Lou did that as well.

You could make an argument for and against her for inclusion and it wouldve been a nice honor. But it could be added motivation and fuel to one day make a more prestigious, nationally recognized team. She certainly looked like a player driven today.

I believe a school can also use some of their NCAA designated funds paying for a transfers travel - Duke or MD did this one year. Not sure what fund it comes out of, but I think it is generally used as stipend for all the teammates. It is not generally done.

Otherwise the transfer has to pay her own way - a road trip to the casino would be pretty easy, and maybe she can sleep on a teammates floor.

..................or maybe a roll-a-way bed, she's still rehabbing. I'm pretty sure the Moheghan Sun Hotel has roll-a-way beds. Thanks UcMiami.

I agree, in I guess 4 or 5 games she was outstanding yet for the season she averaged 6.4 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Again, you are entitled to your opinion.
AND I agree that Aubrey can be a game changer and I hope that she continues to have the type of game, off the bench, that she had today for the next 8 games.

Apparently Aubrey didnt like being left off of the AAC all-freshman team. She was spectacular today.
I think the only thing that kept her off the all-freshman team was her lack of game minutes. I guarantee you that there are not five, probably more like three or four, freshmen in the AAC who are in her league.

Ono has two issues - the elbow hook/push and the defensive swat and they lead to a lot of silly fouls.

If she can fix those two items (and they are both very fixable) over the summer, she'll be a real "nasty piece of business" next season, as she will stay on the floor longer, only coming out for a blow. Geno has said many times that UConn is a different team when she's on the floor. Incoming freshman 6'5" Piath Gabriel will be here next season. There's no way of knowing (right now) how soon she'll be ready to play. Geno could sure use her during the OOC portion of the schedule. :)
Great point Carnac. If nothing else she can fill one part of the floor while our other rebounders fill the other.

I can’t find a link for a replay of the game on the ESPN app. Has anyone had luck finding it?
