Teams finalizing their 2014 schedules, UConn still has no OOC opponents

BL is right on this. The big East gave Hathaway a title so he could chair the basketball selection committee. that's all. he didn't have a real job. It was closer to those situations where an aging star signs a 1 day contract so he can retire as a Bronco or something. If Payton Manning decides to retire "as a Colt" and signs a 1 day contract for $1, nobody is going to makethe assimption that he's going to compete for the starting job again. That is what the Big East did for Hathaway.

I think Ward Manual suggested he was working on OOC for multiple years and did not want to "pre-empt" (my words) a contract by jumping the gun in making announcements. Apparently ongoing discussions may be delicate when it comes to UCFB. To plagarize a catch phrase by Lew Perkins when he was fighting a uphill battle to get stadium funding "I hope to be pleasently surprised".

Meanwhile, Rutgers, Temple, and even UMass are scheduling respectable OOC opponents that are not named "fill in any MAC or FCS school". I'm impressed.

If I had any athletic abilities, I know who I'd want to play for and against (OCC).

Why can't we schedule Penn State? Rutgers and Temple have had success in this endeavor?

Ward......"I hope to be pleasantly surprised"

If we would be willing to schedule three games at State College and two at the Linc (what Temple does) we could land a five game deal with PSU in a heartbeat.

I'm guessing that UMass' game with PSU is similar to their game a few years back with Michigan (and possibly like our season opener this year where it was scheduled before UMass upgraded). I'm sure we could get a one-off game if we really wanted.

Today Rutgers inked a home and home with Maryland (MD at Rutgers 2014, Rutgers at Maryland for 2019). Needless to say everyone has been landing some games, especially against the ACC since it decided to go to 8 conference games.

I'm not saying Manuel is fiddling while Rome burns, but it would be swell if UConn started to pop up on some FBS schedules for 2014. UConn needs 4 OOC games to fill. USF is the only school, other than UConn, with fewer than three OOC games scheduled already.

So far the Big East OOC schedules for 2014 look like:

2014
UCONN
University of TBD. We should match up well with them considering our offense is FUBAR.

Wasn't 2014 the year Tennessee was coming to the Rent and 2015 UConn goes there?

If not UMass, then Buffalo or somebody of that ilk. My guess is UMass would love to do a long term deal, maybe 3-2 and would re-work the other ones if they could get that. For 6-4 they would probably agree to play one of the home games at the Rent.

Please no Buffalo.

I know because I'm a UMass fan. I believe the BC, Colorado and Vandy games are part of 2-for-1's, so those are least likely to change. Penn State could always pull out, though I'd think they'd want somebody on their OOC schedule that they can beat given their sanctions. If something opens up, I'd be happy to schedule UConn.

UNC rearranged things a bit for 2014 by agreeing to travel to ECU. They're still looking for three games to schedule. Currently UConn is the only team in FBS not to have an OOC game scheduled in 2014.

Warde - dial up the boys @ Northwestern - they have openings in 2013 + 2014:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...of-nu-football-series-20121018,0,352607.story

..."Vanderbilt has sent a letter to Northwestern canceling its 2013 and 2014 football games, a Big Ten source told the Tribune on Thursday.

Vanderbilt officials made the decision without so much as a phone call to NU officials, according to the source. The timing of the move is apparently related to the Thursday afternoon release of the 2013 SEC schedule, which will feature changes to cross-division rivalries.

But with the SEC set to keep an eight-game conference slate, Vanderbilt officials will have some explaining to do regarding their decision to cancel the NU series. The buyout was “not prohibitive,” according to the source.

The Wildcats beat the Commodores on the road in 2010 and in September, and NU’s best talent is in its freshmen and sophomore classes.

The 2013 game was scheduled for Sept. 14 in Nashville. The 2014 game would have been in Evanston on Sept. 13. Northwestern now has to scramble to find new opponents."...

Or maybe we'll just play 8 games that year...we can wear retro uniforms and play a retro 8-game schedule which wasn't uncommon in the 1950s...

Or maybe we can have a scrimmage versus the scout team. I hear there is a lot of talent there, especially when they run the T formation.

It's amazing how these teams schedule so far ahead and then buy the games out. How many teams were mentioned in this thread as teams that now have opening because of another school opting out? 4,5,6? It sounds too me that there will be teams available to schedule in 2014 at the going rate. It'd be nice to have some scheduled but I'm not worrying.

I'm worried.

My hope is the only thing that's holding up announcements of the future scheduling, is the timing of the media deal negotiations, of which the exclusive window with Bristol ends in 12 days.

You would think it would all come out at once. But you would probably see other schools announcing it before us.

Odds are our schedule will be pretty unsexy. Worst case: Two I-AAs, and a couple of MAC/Sun Belt type games.

Which WAC schools are looking at dropping down a level because WAC football is collapsing and they can't fill a schedule. Maybe we should call one of them.

I don't see the connection to the tv deal. Even if tv mandates a 9 game schedule (which would be idiotic from a SOS perspective and extremely unlikely to occur), OOC games still have to be scheduled.

Yankee Conference Reunion -
Maine, UNH, URI, and have BU field an intramural team.
