Today Rutgers inked a home and home with Maryland (MD at Rutgers 2014, Rutgers at Maryland for 2019). Needless to say everyone has been landing some games, especially against the ACC since it decided to go to 8 conference games.

I'm not saying Manuel is fiddling while Rome burns, but it would be swell if UConn started to pop up on some FBS schedules for 2014. UConn needs 4 OOC games to fill. USF is the only school, other than UConn, with fewer than three OOC games scheduled already.

So far the Big East OOC schedules for 2014 look like:

2014
UCONN
University of TBD. We should match up well with them considering our offense is FUBAR.

Here's a plan. Invade Temple and annex their schedule as a spoil of war.

Assuming Manuel is going the two BCS teams, 1 Mac, 1 FCS route, getting one BCS team to play at home is going to be tricky. With the Notre Dame/Fenway thing still hanging out there, who knows what will happen, but some teams to look out for:

FSU Only games so far at home against the Citadel and Florida
UNC only has one game scheduled (at Minnesota)

Oklahoma only has two games scheduled
TCU only has one scheduled at SMU

Cal only has one game (at Northwestern)
Stanford with their usual, only has ND and Army scheduled
Utah has one, playing at Michigan

Arkansas has only one game, home against the NIU
LSU has only two games,, both home, ULM and GA Southern (just signed)
Texas A&M, home against Lamar, but at SMU

Rule of thumb, no one wants to give up that 7th home game, no one wants to play in a damned if you do/damned if you don't game, but there are definitely some teams out there. If I had to guess, a game against UNC looks like a match. They come to the rent in 2014, a UConn return is open after 2015.

Local 1AA should be an easy grab. Same goes for UMass. At the Rent or Gillette with an option for season ticket holders to get tickets to the game. 2 BCS opponents - one home, one road. UNC would be ideal. ND at Fenway has been discussed. If we get ND at Fenway, ask UMass to come to us in 2014 and we visit Gillette in 2015. 6 home games and a 'neutral site' game at Fenway against the Irish would be reasonable. If we could bring a BCS opponent to the Rent a la UNC as a 7th home game, that's our best case scenario.

we'll have 4 OOC games. I think it's pretty safe to guess that we'll play an FCS team, UMass and another MAC team. So probably a low-level BCS team for our final opponent. At least we have Tennessee in 2015 and 2016.

Minnesota just backed out of their home and home with UNC. That leaves UNC in the same position as UConn, no OOC opponents in 2014.

Wow. Rutgers and Temple have done a great job in scheduling. I think going so long without a real AD really hurt us. It was necessary, but it happened at a strategically inopportune time.

happy now? that was prob your worst alret ever.

UMass, North Carolina, Notre Dame at Fenway and Maine. Book it.

i would sign up for that asap. only 1 mac team and its umass which is a good thing. nd at fenway is a big time game, a unc series i like a lot and maine as a warmup is what it is. the only issue is if this is year 1 or 2 of a new staff as we might look like rotten eggs on the field.

That's a good schedule. Would like to avoid playing FCS schools down the road when the NNBE moves to 9 games.

Barring buyouts, UMass is booked for 2014. BC and Colorado at Gillette, @Penn St. and Vanderbilt.

BYU already has 3 Big East teams on their schedule for 2014. Interesting.

How did Hathaway have not one OOC opponent scheduled for 2014. Did someone back out? And the conference gave him a job for a dollar so we would have to pay the rest. Nice.

The conference did not give him a job. The conference gave him a title so that he could serve as head of the basketball selection committee.

It's sometimes amazing what people complain about.

I believe UCF and Iowa were two of our OOC. UCF is now in the conference and Iowa backed-out. Not sure why UConn is so coy about its OOC schedule. Most schools post it on their website.

Bl, once he was hired we had to pay the salary that was not paid for by his employer up to a certain amount right? The Conference did us no favors there.

Did you even read what I wrote? The conference did not hire him to perform a job. They gave him an honorary title so he could chair the Selection Committee. If IBM hired him to a $200k a year job maybe UConn would have saved money also, but UConn was hardly screwed by IBM
