I wish AO the best of luck wherever he goes but he and all those that may point the finger at JC must know. Under JC he played games where he looked like a lottery pick and games where he looked like he should be playing d-2. the problem is not and never was JC the problem was and is AO. He may get a rude awakening when he goes somewhere and puts up the type of effort he did all this year and gets the same result. I dont expect him to be awful wherever he goes but he definitely isnt going to turn into a lottery pick over night like i think he and his dumb dad do.

Thank you, someone gets it.....

I don't think anyone is blaming Calhoun. Pointing out that his method doesn't work on 100% of players isn't blaming him - it's pointing out a reality. You don't know about someone until they have to go through it. When it was Alex's turn to lead, he didn't step up.

As for your second paragraph, quit coddling the guy... A bit of honey? Really? Lol......he's a grown man, who was in his third year of a program led by calhoun, not to mention our captain! If anything, AO needed someone like JC who calls'em like he sees'em and pushes him to his limit in an effort to have AO realize his full potential. Instead of stepping up to the plate, AO sadly sat in the dugout.

not enough facepalm images in the world for this post

It's called management. Some people flourish in different environments. It's not the fault of the manager, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying don't be surprised if he plays better somewhere else because he's in a more 'supportive' environment.

Is there any truth to this?

Not the blocking of the transfer, just wondering if BC has basketball fans.

why the hell did this make me laugh so hard? There are rumors of BC fans but ive never actually seen one. come to think of it, i was actually joking but i just realized ive never met a BC hoops fan and i live in CT! lol!

AO is a great one year solution for a lot of these teams. Look at UNC if they lose Zeller and Henson then they need a big badly they dont really have a stud in their recruiting class so AO is perfect for them. Buys time while the younger solid recruits develop.

I like AO seems like a really nice kid, But I dont think he is going to blow anyone away. I do think people think hes better than he really is. But there will always be plenty of teams looking for a decent big man.

Yes. Because you understand defense better than all thnse coaches combined. Do even you think that is a reasonable conclusion?

I think every depends on Alex's confidence. Each year he seems to need half a season to get it going. Maybe a different coach and different approach may make a difference, but with Alex, it tough to know. I was initially mad at him, but I've gotten over it. I hope he does well wherever he goes.

Its a reasonable conclusion for anyone who watched the kid play this year. Maybe he plays better, harder next year for someone else. If he does that would prove even more about him. I hope for his sake he is just not that good and some scholl gets the same guy.

And the only reason AO is getting attention is purely based around potential. He's a McD A-A with flashes of brilliance in TX, Maui, and last years FF. Id be pretty confident it's certainly not due to his exceptional play this year.

It's the same reason Kwami Brown was picked first in the NBA....POTENTIAL!! Why not take a flyer on a big man. If he shows up playing like Ms Oriahki (like he did this year) he'll have a warm spot on the bench waiting for him. If he plays to his potential, great gamble. It's a no lose situation.

He's not getting interest based off potential. It's too late for that, he's going to be a senior in college.

He's getting interest because he's shown he can play at a high level and at this time of year coaches are desperate for good, serviceable bigs.

Exactly, he's not getting interest on potential, he's getting interest because if you give him 35 minutes a game, he's gonna end up averaging close to a double-double. Maybe not rare talent, but there are plenty of people will take that, and NC experience sweetens the deal.

When AO averages a double double next year, how many people are going to be screaming for Calhoun's head?

Alex is a child, was a child all season starting with his mamu stuff. Wants an easy road with promised playing time. Chose the wrong coach for that.

I doubt Alex is going to suddenly mature in one year, but who knows.

I live in the metro area Boston and know a number of BCU grads, but have never met one. Football yes, hoops not a single one.

@GoodmanCBS: UK, UNC, Duke, NC St, FL, Temple, Xavier, UCLA, Mizzou, George Mason, Va Tech, UVA & Charlotte reached out to Alex Oriakhi.[/quote

Alex is a role player at most of those programs, based on this season's performance and especially this season's attitude as a team captain. He may change because, if for no other reason, the environment is new and he will want to prove himself. BUT, I have watched enough players in his position, especially during the tournament, to say that he does not even come close to having the skill set, especially offensively, to be an impact player/starter at this level. In fact his defense and commitment to rebounding for a player his size was absolutely terrible. And his future,in terms of the NBA,imo, is zero.

GO HUSKIES!!!

AO isn't particularly good at basketball and can't play the 4 at all, making him a bad fit for any team with an established center, but he is still is going to be one of the better 5's around for whichever team snags him due to his size and strength. We look at how he failed to learn post moves and disregard his great post defense. He is a good position rebounder. He would immediately become UNC's starting center and would probably start on 80% of the power conference teams.

you can take UK and FL off that list....no transfers allowed in the SEC with only 1 yr of eligibility left.

Well wouldn't that eliminate Missouri, since they will join the SEC next season?

It's possible his perception is based on watching Alex play the past few years. Do you believe Alex was consistent with his play?

Pure projection on your part. If he gets the double-double I would be surprised. Let's plan on discussing this 1 year from now and see what the facts show. Whats close? The 2012 Alex was 7 and 5, is that close? I would expect a bump up if he plays in the A10, MAC or CUSA. At Hostra with 30+ minutes yea, he gets 'close' to 10 and 10 or better. Does that get him into the NBA or Hofstra in the Final Four? Should he go B12, ACC, etc. I just don't see 10/10+. WTF do I know, I am not a D1 coach,

What's the best team we've lost a transfer to in the Calhoun era? UMass? Most have been of the Southern Idaho variety, unless I'm forgetting someone.

Marcus White to Purdue, but his back didn't last long.
