I saw this bench in a state park in Door county, Wisconsin a couple weeks ago. I went in the nature center and asked, Could this refer to Diana Taurasi?” The answer was “Yes”. The woman didn’t know the whole story but said the bench was new and had to be bolted down so it wouldn’t get stolen! It referenced a podcast interview where Diana said something like she always hated doors- meaning obstacles, I think. Whitefish Dunes State Park.

It is kind of strange to run across a bench dedicated to Dee in Door County, WI. In case you're wondering, as I was, just where Door County is, it is a thin peninsula jutting out into Lake Michigan including a small island off the tip. Think exclamation point! To the East is Lake Michigan and to the West a spur of the lake called Green Bay. The city of Green Bay is at the bottom of the bay and not in Door County. The name Door comes from old tales from when the inhabitants were Native Americans and French explorers that told how dangerous the strait between the peninsula and the island was for boats to cut through and was dubbed in French Porte des Mort - door of death.

Door County had a population of about 30,000, at least one of which is apparently a UConn fan

I was there for a midway family reunion ( family from both coasts) and was shocked to see something there connected to Diana so I had to go ask - I thought ( being a huge UConn fan) there’s no WNBA team here and she didn’t come from here, how did this come about??? The answer was vague at best but I was still delighted. ( And Door county is very touristy, with lots of great shops & eateries for anyone interested.)
