Lack of structure says it allWel
Well put, definitely not a head case. I actually think he’s a bright and well spoken kid who had zero structure in place to understand how to make good decisions. As mentioned earlier, the UM guard play was a total clusterf8ck.
I always refer back to his freshman year team - Dickinson and the 11th and 15th picks and they couldn’t make the NCAA tournament. It would almost seem hard to do that.
To answer a question, he was generally a top 35 kid, cusp burger boy, on3 had as high as 29. He had offers from many of the top big 10 schools and Kansas. He’s built like a brick sh8thouse and can move, and has touch. Lot to like here and a fun experiment to watch the staff take into the lab.
Tarris particularly intriguing since:Trying not to exhibit anything unhealthy here, but I’d be happy if I saw a new Tarris Reed thread every day!
Anybody have a similar obsession with any of the other new guys?
Our guards have carried the rebound load over many years and it will be hard to reproduce what Tristan and Cam did last year. I expect that Dan Hurley will expect big things from Tarris in this respect. Dominate the paint (boards, put backs and shot blocking).I think Tarris can do some things neither DC or Adama could do. Key here is just going to be expunging the bad habits, getting him as many easy baskets as tough so he knows he doesn’t have to do too much. Getting him set up to play great defense and rebound. I did notice on his tape he didn’t quite hit the boards as hard as you’d like. That has to be a non negotiable.
There is no reason a guy like him doesn’t lead the league in rebounds, he’s that stout and long.
Freshman year he was 40%, so he’s on the up and up! No reason for him not to get to 70 with his soft touch.Just can’t wait to see him in action. Just looked up foul shooting last season 58.6. That has to be better. Donovan went to that 1 bounce and go technique and it seemed to really help him. For a big man just take out the thinking on foul shooting.
I'm all for being enthusiastic about Reed and think he will start and be a great contributor, but Sanogo was MOP of the Final 4 AND has a 20-20 double double in the NBA. Reed can be a very important contributor, even if he doesn't have close to the impact Sanogo did.Good for you for sticking to your guns. I have seen clips of this kid making 3's, blocking shots and dominating the low post. If the kid makes FT's, he is already a fair comp to Sanogo.
Good insight. They can get guys to believe that they can change for the better if they trust them. Great example is Jordan Hawkins. Look at the change between year 1 and 2. Just a guess but I think Kimani is very good at this. Tarris said he yells at him every day after practice and Tarris gets it!feel/awareness is generally pretty hard to improve from one extreme to another, but there can be substantial improvement up to a floor level. but this staff is very good at micro managing this stuff and coming up with quick adaptations depending on how the opposition plays, so it's really the ideal place to get him to improve.
