Tarris Reed

Agree with everything you said except mentioning Iowa st. Most overrated #2 seed ive seen in many years. We beat Illinois by 25 we wouldve beat them by 40.

I think we would have beaten Iowa State pretty comfortably but by less of a margin than Illinois, given the relative playing styles involved. That would have been a rock-fight that we would have stretched out to 15 or 20 by the end.

Tarris watching Sanogo tapes. Yes, just clone the footwork. I guess it’s asking too much, huh?
Don’t think you are really. Thought of Adama first time I saw video. He’s light on his feet and moves nicely. I think some aspects of his offense are possibly better right now. He seems to have a great attitude and hunger, betting he will be a tough defender and rebounder. Not saying he’ll be better, but he has enough stuff to give it a run.

Exactly…Dan Hurley said he has too many options…it’s easier to scale down your repertoire than to try and increase it. I expect him to highlight a few dependable moves that he can bank on…and excel at those

Adama was a machine in his last year. Had his go-to moves and was relentless in his efficiency and establishing position in the low post. Kept going to them until/or if the defense stopped him-Which never happened in 2023.

Excellent role model for Tarris to shape his low post game after

I’m wondering how Tarris compares to AS in physical strength. He’s got a great frame and will have another 5 months or so of strength acquisition before the season starts. Adama was very difficult to handle physically even before he unleashed his repertoire of footwork and offensive moves. Will be watching!!

Just went back and watched TR's transfer portal highlight video. More excited now than I was the first time I watched it. Samson going to have to really improve to be #1 at the 5.

I suspect that he will. Previously, Samson was behind vastly more athletic/developed players. This year the starting spot is there for the taking. Regardless of who starts, both Reed, and Johnson will get starters minutes.

Again this year it is an interesting change up at center. Johnson is a high flyer who is excellent executing the hard hedge while Reed is more of a traditional low post presence. Hurley sees value in forcing the defense to react and adapt to dramatically different types of post players.

This is the definition of a first world problem. “Tarris’ biggest problem, having spent two months with him, is that he has almost too much physical talent for somebody his size because he then could do a lot of different things and he ends up having so much variety,” Hurley said.

BTW, whoever said that it's absurd to compare Reed to Sanogo better have have a talk with Hurley.

That quote is like when an interviewer asks the interviewee what their weakness is, and the answer is: "Sometimes I work too hard and care too much."

The proof's in the pudding but I certainly like what I'm reading.

I thought his ceiling is Sanogo and that another comparison is Drummond Lite.

I used to love the fact that NO ONE could back him down.

I completely agree. And remember, Adama was not Adama when he got here!!! He had no moves, and could not stay off foul trouble! This kid is not starting from scratch.

Huh? Adama came in as one of the most polished big men ever in terms of offensive moves. He also improved a lot while he was here, but he showed up day 1 with the ability to score in the post

Look at the legs on this kid

Don’t think Adama or Andre are comps. Physically closer to Andre. Tarris’s lower half is like a DL, he’s got two redwoods for legs. Andre was a tick taller and weighed 278 at the combine, big boy. Unlike Andre he’s not just brute force, not quite the dancing bear that Adama is. Adama is really one of a kind with the soccer background, likely the best combination of low post footwork and hands we’ve seen at UConn for a big. Tarris kinda falls in between the two. I feel great about his offensive potential, the question will be what kind of rim presence he will provide defensively. That coulf be the biggest adjustment year over year we have going in, and really curious to how Dan Hurley works through it.

I made that comparison after Reed committed and people lost their minds. They thought it was heresy to compare the two

No, people lost their minds when you said he's a better version of Sanogo. And rightfully so
Did I say better or could be better?

EDIT:

"I think he’ll be a better version of Sanogo due to his rim protection and quick first step. Don’t shoot the messenger!"

What I’ve seen of him shows a guy with good instinct and desire for rim protection. Further development of his anticipation and discipline should make him a force. Don’t have much to go on to evaluate as a 1:1 defender

Super excited for this kid, even more so after hearing him interviewed. He sounds like a really bright kid. He strikes me as incredibly talented and a physical specimen, so now will be fun to watch what this staff can do with him once they take him into the lab, remove the bad habits (turnovers) and have him focus on his strengths. He’s also what I’d consider the key piece in making a run for the NC, perhaps the most important variable.

Maybe he should have just said a "taller Sanogo." That seems more realistic.

He's probably 18 months away from developing Sanogo's skills and dependability, if he ever does, and probably won't match Sanogo's strength. But he has his own strengths, and will be very very good for us.

the offense improvements can be more or less counted on, but the more important thing is how much defense he can play. he was pretty decent as a post defender, but the real challenge is the more feel dependent things like playing drop coverage and anticipating plays, how teams try to attack the defense and attack him. key area to watch.
