i really like Tara, but to be fair, while "what's so great about UNC" is totally true, the ACC does have 3 teams in the top 10 (or close to it) in Duke, Maryland, and Miami. so yeah, UNC is down, but those 3 teams are up.

if Duke runs the table in the ACC, i can see the argument for a #1 seed for them. but honestly, they still have to play Miami and Maryland again, and then they will have the ACC. i doubt any of those teams wins out...

also, having said that, Peck might be one of the least intelligent analysts on TV. she routinely has nothing of interest to say, and when she does have an opinion, it's either as obvious as the day is long, or completely inane...

It's Carolyn Peck... 'Nuf said.
Exactly. I won't even bother reading what Tara said.. If she doesn't already know it, someone should tell her that most WCBB fans don't pay any attention to Peck.

Stanford doesn't care that they are a #2 seed as long as they stay out west. See what would happen if Stanford was a #2 seed in Baylor's or ND's bracket, then she would have plenty to say behind the scenes

I think the only way that discussion would be relevant is if Duke wins out and Cal beats Stanford once either in the return or the Pac tournament.
I do think the ACC is a generally tougher conference most years than the Pac but Stanford plays a strong OOC schedule and deserves their current ranking.
And what is Tara going to say - of course she defends her conference, and ... Peck - give me abreak.

Right. In 2004 UConn was a #2 seed to Penn State - in the Hartford Regional. Don't see that PSU's seeding did them much good.

I don't care if we are a 1 or 2 seed, but I do care that Peck is not informed enough to make those comments. I'd bet a lot $ she hasn't seen any PAC 12 games, and certainly not the Cal/Stanford game.

Its a moot point because Duke wont get a #1 seed this year anyway... even if Stanford loses at Cal, and even if Duke runs the table in the ACC (we wont). They didnt deserve a #1 seed over Duke last season, and the Blue Devils had a much better resume last season then this one. Higher RPI, Higher SOS, more quality wins... et al.

She mentions that the Pac 12's top teams can stack up against the top ACC teams this season? Wow

I'm surprised by Tara's comment that Boyd "might be better than" Chelsea Gray. I have no problem talking about ACC teams vs PAC 12 teams, or even talking about how fans are denied the opportunity to see how good Boyd is, but making a direct and personal comparison between 2 players strikes me as small-minded.

Stanford plays a strong OOC schedule???? Look at their schedule, and then look at Duke's.

Might is the key word. She's just giving props to Boyd. It's hardly small-minded.

To be clear, I didn't say that giving props to Boyd was small-minded; I was addressing the way it was done ("People on TV are raving about Duke point guard Chelsea Gray," VanDerveer said. "I think (Cal freshman) Brittany Boyd might be better than her.") Props can be given to one player without appearing to begrudge the praise heaped on another.

I'm not sure I'd hang the strength of the PAC 12 conference on the Cal/Stanford game. On a simple ranked/unranked scale, ACC is head and shoulders about the PAC.

And just what OOC schedule are you talking about? Not that I ever agree with Peck. This year the toughest OOC opponents for Stanford: TEXAS, TENN. and UCONN. The rest of the schedule are cupcakes. Tara will only only venture out and play difficult schedule if she's convinced she has a powerhouse team. The Pac-12 cries every season about lack of respect, but nothing ever changes. The NCAA shelters them because there frankly is NO-ONE on the west coast. Other than a trip to Uconn this season, do you see her taking her team to a place like Louisville for instance ? Why should she. In the end , Stanford will get their cupcake #1 seed out west and cruise to the regional final game, while everyone else battles it out. Tara is one of the biggest cry babies in WCBB!

I understood that. Tara is simply not happy that people haven't seen Boyd play, including Peck. Having listened to Tara a lot, I didn't take her comment as begrudging the praise that Gray receives. She loves when players and women's ball get noticed, but just wants it spread out more.

Of course I dont watch every single minute of every single broadcast of WCBB... but I dont see alot of national praise the Gray recieves. If anything, I feel she is vastly underrated on a national level.

Can you please provide data to back up that ridiculous claim.

Lawson recently commented how great she is, which is true.

Questions:
1) What is the record of PAC 10 schools head to head with ACC schools?
2) What is the winning % of PAC 10 schools and ACC schools in the NCAA tournament?

Point: Does Tara have a point that the PAC 10 mistakenly considered weaker the the ACC that is measurable in some objective way?

Just look at the schedule they play year after year. You can easily find it, then compare that years roster and and results.

Your thesis that she only ventures out to play a tough schedule when she has a good team is nonsense on so many levels. I don't have time to deal with explaining how scheduling works, and how good her teams have been over the years.

CARDFAN--

I agree with you.

Although I admit that I really don't know what I am talking about. My instinct tells me that Stanford just isn't that interested in taking the time and competing and winning.

 Hopefully Gray will show Tara that she is a better player then Boyd..... and hopefully Duke will show her something about the ACC this year.

I want this victory so bad, I can almost taste it. Never been a Stanford fan (except when they faced Maryland, Tenn, and UNC) ..... The whole West Coast Academic Elitism, smugness.... our players are smarter then yours.... arrogance...... really rubs me the wrong way.
