Syracuse post game thread

They ask us to pack the Rent but man we’ve seen too many of these over the last decade. Way too many.

I have to believe that at least 80 percent of us long time sufferers knew or at least felt the Orange were gonna drive the length of the field down 17-12. Not only did they do that but it was a cakewalk.

This is a wretched loss. Wretched.
It’s a loss. Everyone was walking out with 11:00 to go. I said to the guys in front of us, this is UConn, anything can happen. Game is far from over.

Painful. It was an oppty for great win.

Whatever. Still going to be fun season.

What is there to say, defense gave them multiple opportunities to win it, fagnano couldn’t hit a barn today which hung the running game out to dry and coaching staff managed to lose the game in ot. After all of fagnanos missed passes today, did we really need to see the game in his hands on the game’s final play? Game was over in the third quarter thanks to all of this. Bell baled them out with that incredible catch. And don’t want to hear about moral victories in a game that should never have been lost.
I was such a big supporter of Joe last year, but frankly, I would’ve loved to have seen Evers in the second half

Nope, it's the reality of the situation. You sound like you have your lines rehearsed considering you said the same exact thing to another poster.
Only showing up on the football board, on a postgame thread after a loss (which you and that previous poster did) and bringing up our situation in realignment is borderline trolling. I know your not a troll but when you imply shutting down the program it comes across as trolling. Fans won't take those comments well especially after a tough loss, not to mention realignment talks aren't even relevant to the game that was just played.

It's also just a lazy take, much more goes into a P4 invite then just winning vs losing a game to a P4 opponent.

I've posted thousands of times on the football board and would've been in the game chat if I had access. I've watched basically every game since they made the jump to D1-A. If you don't think our games against P4 teams matter in our quest to get an invite you aren't paying any attention.

Of course they do.
It’s just lame that after a loss, some people feel the need to question the programs existence. Especially after the progress made last year.

The fact you bring it up is telling.

How did we not even get a review on this??

There were a few plays in this game where the call on the field benefited Syracuse, and there was no review despite a lot of uncertainty as to whether someone had possession or not. We still don't know whether or not the correct call was made. However, when Cuse fumbled and UConn recovered early in the game, the play was reviewed and the call was (correctly) reversed. And then there was the bullcrap review of the forward pass that allegedly might have been a fumble (no way), which negated a second-down incompletion (and near interception) as a null play. All of those situations wound up benefiting Syracuse.

We got one important judgment call the whole game (the pass interference in the end zone, a correct call). Meanwhile, tons of obvious holding penalties were ignored, while UConn got flagged on a ticky-tack holding call. Garbage refereeing that shows UConn gets second-class treatment.

When the ACC was deciding between us and Louisville to replace Maryland, we beat a Teddy Bridgewater Louisville team at Louisville when they were ranked, we were bad and our QB got knocked out during the game. It made zero difference.

Individual games are not what is going to decide what conference a team plays in. Being better than middling P-4 teams continuously will mean something.

It was called a TD in real time. Those replays weren't going to overturn it. Looked to me like he had enough control of the ball in his right hand when the ball passed the pylon in bounds even though he was still trying to get his left hand on the ball while going oob.

This was like watching Giants prevent defense with Kotite's offense. I agree this is the worst loss of the Mora era, and the worst I can remember. Cuse needed two TDs and our boys and coaches laid down to give them up. Fagnano can run a little. Some misdirect could've worked for a keeper or two. Also, with our backs, screens can be very effective. I thought we'd use more screens since we really didn't show them last week except maybe one play.

Bell is a player. Our other guys who dropped easy catches... I hope they don't sleep well.
To me It was a slight bobble at first and Where his foot when he completed possession is what i wanted them to look at. Assuming every score is looked at and they didnt even bother to pause the game for a minute to look was odd. This wssnt a score in the first couple minutes of the game.
Im not saying they would definitely overturn it but the fact tbey didnt even look was ridiculous.
Not denying We cost ourselves in many ways too.

It’s an ACC crew. I’m not surprised they didn’t even bother looking at it

Not in our situation. When you have a P4 team on road on the fritz, need to step on the juggler. Not play scared. Awful loss.
Well then I invite you to change your perspective

You can continue to be upset by the loss, or you can recognize the awesome and thrilling game it was and appreciate it for being entertaining. I say we let the coach and players worry about the former, and the Football fans can take the latter

Yeah, but he started his collegiate career as a walkon at an FCS school for a reason. He is very limited and sadly, so is our football program until we seriously upgrade our QB position.
This board is insane.

I have been watching JF since 2018. He is not the “worst quarterback in UConn history,” as the boneyard christened him a couple years ago, nor is he a top tier FBS quarterback (as some seemed to think last week).

I love JF for what he did at Maine, for what he has done for us. But he is a competent, average FBS quarterback. I wish people could get this through their heads.

Stop talking. That wasn’t thrilling. It was a frustrating capitulation.

At the start of the fourth quarter they were already trying to run clock

Nope. You need to get yards and score. That’s how you win these games.

No moral victories.

You have to put your foot on the pedal and put them out of their misery when you had them down.

This loss has to be put behind them because the game against Delaware is next and they need to be ready to play better on offense and make the plays when needed to get the win and come back home 2-1

I can’t believe they just went right to letting Cuse kick the extra point immediately without reviewing that TD in OT. Hes bobbling the ball when it crosses the pylon and when he finally possess it he looked to have his elbow OOB. Maybe not enough evidence to overturn but to not review that in OT is INSANE.

The PI we finally did get was probably the least physical defense on Bell all day.

Clear holding missed on their big TD to make it 17-12.

The going back to the previous previous play was the most insane thing ever.

I feel gutted like a fish. Most deflating loss in UConn football history. Could have changed the Program around with a quality win on the road against a P4 team...And we gave it away
I watched neither but listened on radio. Can’t help but think of Navy game during Diaco era. Bounce back!
