Awful loss. I don’t want to blame play calling because players have to make plays — esp our qb who I’ve been a big supporter of. But that said I hate the second half play calling. I think coaches don’t often consider how it affects their team when they play too conservative. This team changed when the play calling changed.

Not in our situation. When you have a P4 team on road on the fritz, need to step on the juggler. Not play scared. Awful loss.
Well then I invite you to change your perspective

You can continue to be upset by the loss, or you can recognize the awesome and thrilling game it was and appreciate it for being entertaining. I say we let the coach and players worry about the former, and the fans enjoy the latter

Sitting on the lead would mean running. We should have done more running in the third and forth quarters.

After the 2ND half field goal

3 and out R, P, P

3 and out P, R, P

5 and out P, R, P, P

6 and out P, R, P, R, P, P

4TH Quarter

3 and out P, R, P

3 and out P, R, P

After this we started favoring the run. We were not sitting on the ball or playing to not to lose. We ran 7 times, we threw 15 times. We were throwing and stopping the clock.

Actually running the ball would have been great because it probably would have made more 1st downs.

So they weren't totally focused on counting down the play clock? I must have been seeing things. Based on what you posted we became totally predictable.

The pass plays that they did call were very low percentage too. Where was the screen to Murphy, which never didn't work? Where was Mel Brown.

Everything they did indicated that they were turtling.

I didn't get to see the game but I was checking scores so I was pretty excited for 3.5 hours today. Probably much more so than cuse fans. All of our games are must win games so when you have the chance to finally beat the ACC on the road, even if it is only the lowly cuse, and you fumble it, it is excruciating

Jim Mora was all about "pushing the edge" yesterday. That makes great video in practice. "Great effort, great execution, great focus." "Edge, edge, edge. Great teams find their edge, and then they push it." "There's a twitch in us." Doesn't sound like the 4th quarter to me

Just can't lose this game today with that lead

Regarding the cuse team after the game. I don't see anyone sprinting. What was the point of those 10 yard strolls anyway

I have to retire that analyst hat that I have. I was way off the mark on this one. UConn Nation will lick its wounds and win out the remainder of the schedule is my new prediction. I think today was a real learning experience for the coaches as well as the team. Delaware and Ball State. Time to get Nick a few more snaps?

This was a game to win and UConn coaching staff gave it away with playing not to lose and did just that. I am so mad and I don't want to hear about playing close. BS, this should have been a win. They play prevent defense which gave up yards in the middle of the field all game long. The offense of running the entire 4th quarter till they had to pass needed to not to happen. You have to put your opponent out when you have them on the canvas. '
Yeah, Buddy. Good encapsulation.

.-.
It’s the ultimate insult to us and our football program
It was disrespectful. And as someone already pointed out, Fran should be the one doing sprints for constructing a P4 roster that’s no better than UConn’s. As for the Cuse players, instead of sprints, they should be popping champagne to celebrate that UConn snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

idk if this is a compliment to uconn or an insult to uconn - I take it as an insult, as if being legitimately challenged by UConn nearly to the point of defeat, is such an embarassment to Fran Brown that he makes his kids run sprints after the game? i think it's a shot at UConn; THIS is what P4 teams think of us, even MEDIOCRE ones like syracuse, no matter what they say on the mic. I guarantee if this same game happens against even a meh ACC team like Wake or Stanford, the sprints don't happen.

If you put Fran on the spot and asked him, I'm sure he'd say it has "nothing" to do with us - he's just molding his guys. I call BS. he thinks we're beneath him.

This is why we needed to kick their ***es. nothing less than a WIN against them will shut them up, change perceptions, and actually make Big12 schools take us seriously in the next vote. We failed.

it's an insult. hope that clears that up

As an Independent in this era of rising costs and the P2 trying hard to choke everyone out we shouldn’t live to fight another day because there may not be one.
As we all know the football program is a huge drain financially on the University unless they get an invite to the P4. Each time we blow a game like this it makes the chances of getting that invite less likely.

Big East is actually in pretty good shape financially with this new model because Big East schools don't have football, obviously except for UConn.

At some point something has to give.

I'm fuming still. Just an unbelievable loss. I cannot BELIEVE we lost that game.

To steal a post from the Cuse board:
"If we're being honest, UConn really had no business losing that game. I feel like they got too conservative with their playcalling in the second half. There were numerous times they could have given us a knockout punch, but just couldn't connect.

If the roles were reversed and we lost a game in that exact fashion, I would agonize over it for like 10 years."

I absoultely hate the way we played that 2nd half. Just tucked our almonds between our legs and hoped for the best. That is not how you win football games. I'm so upset with Jim Mora's coaching

What is there to say, defense gave them multiple opportunities to win it, fagnano couldn’t hit a barn today which hung the running game out to dry and coaching staff managed to lose the game in ot. After all of fagnanos missed passes today, did we really need to see the game in his hands on the game’s final play? Game was over in the third quarter thanks to all of this. Bell baled them out with that incredible catch. And don’t want to hear about moral victories in a game that should never have been lost.

I want a post game interview with Fagnano just to hear how he could not hit a wide open tight end 8 times over

The fact that they ran sprints doesn’t bother me one bit.

We should worry about ourselves.
I agree with your point 100%, having said that we gave them two games in their house with their officials. The post game demonstration was totally disrespectful and classless.
JC would run the men after a bad loss on the road but not until it was back at Gampel out of view from any and all.
Having said that if he does that after every game win or lose I can accept it, no problem.

to me this one ranks up there w/rutgers winning in 2009 on 81 yd TD after uconn took lead w 38 secs left. very deflating. that was a sudden gut punch while today the air got let out slowly but surely

Don't tell me what the standard is.

The fact that Mora has made the standard playing in Bowl games, as an independent, with less NIL money than most of our P4 competitors, without the ability to bring an impartial referee crew on the road, is perhaps one of the best rebuilds in the country. He's brought us from a laughing stock to a legit team in an era where being short of money should mean death.

Your comment tells me that you should stop telling me things...
I agree with you sort of. I like Mora and this staff.
But the offense got a little bland.
Players need to make plays, but I don’t think this was a great coached game.

We had so many chances to eat clock. Didn’t get it done.

They’ll learn from this. Game isn’t over until clock hits zero in 4th.

There it is!

Well, it's nice when the "close the football program" basketball-only fans out themselves. It saves me the trouble...

This video was posted at #153. Man he looks frustrated and just didn't want to answer the question. He said they just didn't make plays but from what I've read, it is a lot more than that

Getting OT here, this sounds like realignment board talk. Yes we're all aware of our situation as an independent. You sound like you had these lines saved up and were dying to use them after losing to a P4 team.

Interesting how he made sure to say that when he said we need to make plays that he said it’s not just players but coaches as well. A few other times it sounded like he was not happy with his coaches. Have a feeling that was geared towards Sammis seeing how O couldn’t do crap in the second half after the D made stop after stop.

No offense but this is a stupid post . Like it or not Syracuse is a power 4 conference team with at least 10 times the resources UConn has. That being said we are closing the gap big time
You think we’re good? Next week is going to tell us a lot.

Any chance you mean "jugular?" When you step on the juggler, you risk turning an ankle on a ball or bowling pin.
I think he meant step on the Juggalo. Not a big ICP fan, that Ruff Ruff.

Agreed, I thought he bobbled it at first and by the time he cane down with it his foot wasnt on the line and he was out of bounds.
But the answer to your question on why they didn't review is likely because they are in a P4 and we are not. Always better for the P4 team to win than us.
It was called a TD in real time. Those replays weren't going to overturn it. Looked to me like he had enough control of the ball in his right hand when the ball passed the pylon in bounds even though he was still trying to get his left hand on the ball while going oob.

This was like watching Giants prevent defense with Kotite's offense. I agree this is the worst loss of the Mora era, and the worst I can remember. Cuse needed two TDs and our boys and coaches laid down to give them up. Fagnano can run a little. Some misdirect could've worked for a keeper or two. Also, with our backs, screens can be very effective. I thought we'd use more screens since we really didn't show them last week except maybe one play.

Bell is a player. Our other guys who dropped easy catches... I hope they don't sleep well.

.-.
You can not design a more “don’t play scared to lose” situation than we are in. We aren’t in a conference. We aren’t in the P4. And we have everything to gain with these types of wins and not much at all to lose. Instead of a gauntlet of a schedule, we have like 3-4 games where we should just let it fly.

And yet they are still petrified to coach to win in these situations. And quite frankly on offense they are petrified to make the plays necessary.
I can’t emphisize how correct this is. I’m not even mad that we lost (I’m joking I am), I’m pissed that we turtled the entire second half. Like 17 points was enough. I’m too mad to say anything else.

Joe had a bad game. His passing and vision wasn't up to his standards. The worst was a third down and 4 or 5 where he had 20 yards to graze but tried to force one into coverage. But in the 4th Coach Gordie and his assistants just froze up. That's why we lost. I hope he's good at self-reflection because he's not at the level we need him to be yet. The preparation seems good but the in game decisions down the stretch are not.

The last half of 3rd Q and the entire 4th Q I am thinking if we get one score we win. The offense was a mess. Honig drop was huge. Bell sweep to our bench on a couple yards needed for a first down was dumb. Fagnano has to run the ball once or twice a game on the read option. Offense blew the game. Very frustrated. Delaware will be a handful. Their QB looked better than Fagnano.

You sound like you had these lines saved up and were dying to use them after losing to a P4 team.
Nope, it's the reality of the situation. You sound like you have your lines rehearsed considering you said the same exact thing to another poster.

Just another typical UConn Football Saturday.

Unfortunately we are what we are. We will win 80% of our non-P4 games and lose 90% of our P4 games.

We are in a spot to win almost all of these games against the dregs of the ACC and always find a way to lose. Just where we are in today’s college football landscape.

As painful as it is, it is still better than where we were 5 years ago when we were a complete joke of a program.

Frustrating? Absolutely. But completely expected at this point.

Be honest. I can’t be the only one who knew exactly how the game was going to end once we got to the 4th quarter. Obviously cheering for it not to happen, but it ended exactly as I think we all knew it would.
I actually knew it would happen when they allowed Cuse to make a last second field goal at the end of the first half.
