Fagnano'[s lack of mobility is a liability. And he doesn't pass with accuracy while on the run.
Thing is he’s not even immobile. He can do some damage with legs he just don’t design plays for it and he would rather make an off balance throw than pick up easy first downs when he has space

We can’t allow it to come down to this. We know we are going to get jobbed by P4 refs. We have to win in overwhelming ways and take it out of the refs’ hands.

We could have done that in the second half today. Sammis chose not to.
Oh absolutely but this was wild.

Right before Cuse scores the go ahead TD we have a first down at the Syracuse 39 and rattle off these 3 AWFUL plays before an extremely disappointing decision to punt and a subsequent inability to down the ball. Just complete crapping of the bed. Get the ball to Mel Brown on any of these plays and we win the game.

Very frustrating loss that we should have won. You replay the last 7 minutes of this game with slightly different decisions and we win more often than not. We did look closer to Syracuse in talent than we did last year.

With that said, this game as well as the CCSU game are indicating that we did not regress and are still about as good as a bottom tier P4 school or a high tier G5 school which is not that bad considering our situation. All I want is a winning season (i.e. 7 wins) and a bowl game. As long as basketball remains elite, we just need to not be a dumpster fire and we will get consideration when the ACC or Big 12 lose a few members to the Big 10/SEC.

Well then I invite you to change your perspective

You can continue to be upset by the loss, or you can recognize the awesome and thrilling game it was and appreciate it for being entertaining. I say we let the coach and players worry about the former, and the Football fans can take the latter
Bro this isn’t the cinema, it’s sports. The essence of sports is winning or losing. If I wanted simply entertaining I could put some WWF or Evil Knievel on.

Tulane and USF

Yeah obviously it sucks but I can appreciate a thriller of a game. I'd rather lose the way we did than not take the game to OT.

Sometimes you can just appreciate a good game instead of feeling upset that your team lost
If the players appreciate losing a good game we will forever be an independent..

I too am mortally depressed by this one. Yes, I'm elated we are no longer the dumpster fire of 5 years ago, and I'm very grateful to coach Mora and his staff for making us respectable again, but DAMN!

I will say this though. If Brock continues to improve the defense at anywhere near the rate they improved between week 1 and week 2 we could have a top 10 defense, statistically, and be in every game we play.

But we desperately need a QB who can throw well AND run. Fagnano can't run and does not throw well against better competion. I'd like to see if Evers, who IS a running threat, has improved his passing enough to be our starter. If Evers falters as the starter against Delaware, well, JF has historically played better coming off the bench anyway, so there's that.

Big sigh. DAMN!

THIS!!!!! That's what frustrated me MOST about today.
You never win when you play not to lose. There was absolutely no way we were going to run the ball effectively late in the game.

IMO, Sammis didn't show confidence in his 'veteran' QB, nor the "weapons" at WR and TE to make plays. Neither did Mora.

Here's hoping our staff learned something about themselves as well today.

I thought this was a very close game. Our defense made some great plays in first half and we showed some speed we haven’t seen in a while.

The game came down to whether UConn could eat up the clock and move the ball late in the 4th. They didn’t. Surprised given our talent at RB.

I believe Syracuse also lost a ton of talent from last year.

UConn has some solid pieces on both sides of the ball. It will get better and more evident. Syracuse got lucky today and UConn let an oppty slip through their hands.

That or run for a 4 / 5 yard wide open space and slide for a first down. Several opportunities missed today.

Then you aren't a fan of the sport. Doesn't take a lot to appreciate a thrilling game

I’d likely speak for the vast majority of fans on the planet that I much prefer my program winning than watching them lose in entertaining fashion.

Our men’s title against Butler was a god awful basketball game, but we won. Had we lost in a beauty, not sure I’d have walked away nearly as satisfied. It’s Wins and Losses my man. It’s sports. Close is only worth anything in hand grenades and horse shoes.

Except it wasn't a god awful Football game, it was a great one. Had it been a terrible game, I would be upset. But as a fan of the game, I can recognize good losses and solid games and, while still upset with the outcome, I can appreciate a good game for what it is and be entertained. That's the whole purpose of being a spectator

If you maintain your mindset, you are only gambling your happiness every time you watch any game.

Also this "The only thing that matters is whether you win or lose" thinking is junk, sports aren't black and white like that and direct winning isn't the only metric to measure progress. It's ok to find a silver lining in a loss

This may rank up there just next to the Tim Brown SUNJ game as far as all time losses.

I don't know what the hell the staff was thinking on some of the offensive play calling in the 2nd half.

From a football guy...albeit one not invested in UConn...what a game ! The most cardiac final minute of regulation that I can remember....Technically a loss...but UConn did a terrific job...I wish that both teams could get a W for this one...they played equally....Good job, Huskies.
I just checked the rule book. It turns out they cannot give both teams a W.

I thought we might see Jackson Harper on offense. Had 5 catches vs CCSU. Did he line up at WR today? It looked like our options shrunk down to like 3 or 4 guys this week.

And one other play that didn't get a second look was a sideline grab our coaches were pointing to a spot where his foot tapped down. It looked very close timing wise but nothing from the same imbeciles that had to erase a bad Cuse play to help them on a scoring drive.

The offense went 3 and out at least six times in the second half. The reason the defense couldn't close out is not because of the defense...
Look, Sammis screwed this team royally. He bailed on his QB and receivers. Yes, JF was off but you have to ride the horse that brought you plenty of Ws and a great receiver group. His calling was schizophrenic and simply inexplicable, ranging to needlessly conservative to the occasional unnecessarily risky on short yardage 3rd downs. That said, they gambled on the D holding up and got burned. Cuse found the weaknesses and broke us down late. Every D is going to break and be exploited and when you’re in that situation you have to have something in the back pocket other than holding your breath and hoping the O makes a mistake first. The DC should know when the D is breaking down and gassed, and the HC needs to realize when the O needs to open up and get aggressive. This loss is entirely infuriating. I blame the staff 100% for not trusting its players.

The standard isn't better than Edsall. The program under Edsall 2.0 was the biggest abomination any of us have ever seen. It's year 4 for Mora and the team shouldn't be finding new and improved ways to lose football games they should easily win. These losses are crushing when there are so few opportunities and the program is trying to prove something to P4 conferences. Mora is 19-21 overall and 2-12 against the P4. Keeping the games close against Syracuse and Duke does nothing for us.
Just stop the bashing. It will be a cold day in hell before we get another coach of his caliber and character.

With all due respect no one likes to hear about silver linings when your team is not in a conference and brutally choke a game away you should have won against a P4 team.
Especially diehard fans who want to see this program get a lifeline.

The team has a lifeline now. Mora is here and we're in the best shape we've been in in over 10 years. The narrative that UConn doesn't belong in FBS doesn't exist anymore. You're acting like we got blown out by today. We hung around and really should've won. The narrative about us is changing. A win against Syracuse wouldn't be the reason UConn is joining the ACC/B12. It's a marathon, not a sprint

Or I guess choose to be down on the loss and ignore all the growth right in front of you.

Your call. You all sound foolish

I don't miss seeing all of these comments people are saying about UMass being hurled our way:

It's nice that we're getting some respect now. Still plenty of season left to make something out of it. I didn't expect us to go undefeated.

On the final play of the game, Fagnano's pass to Vereen in the endzone looked spot on but was inadvertently deflected by an unaware Deslauriers when it hit him in on the right arm with his back turned. Though the announcers credited Deslauriers with breaking up the play, which he technically he did, he never actually made a play on the ball. Syracuse was very fortunate on the play.

Punching the ball. Had the whistle blown? If so, yeah foul, if not, that the game today.
After that tremendous catch, It was the most obvious personal foul that I’ve seen. I think it was punched in the stomach and he was struck in the helmet area after he caught the ball.

It should’ve been another 15 yards and it happened right in front of the officials which again as long as we schedule ACC teams we’re going to experience things like this, but thank you for calling it out.

I wouldn’t care if we never saw Syracuse on the schedule again. In fact, I would love it if we could just join another conference and not have to play any of these folks from the ACC.

Hopefully, we find out Mel Brown is perfectly healthy and that he only got 5 carries because Sammis is a moron. Mora needs to make sure we see more Brown. If he carries the ball 15-20 times we win this game by 15 points. There’s just no excuse for it other than injury. None.

If only ottis anderson could have walked through thar door and let Mora/Sammis play keepaway for the final 5:00. It seemed like that was the intent. Didn't work. Little picture Mora/Sammis should have kept foot on gas. Big picture program in best shape since 2010. The sample size at present says Mora is the guy. If a bigger sample size emerges that that isn't the case, well, lets jump off that bridge when we get to it.
