Agreed! Unfortunately this loss may be a program killer imo. It would have been a statement win, for the P4 judges. Instead it’s probably the worst loss of the decade
It’s not how teams get into a P4 based on a single game. A problem killer, your quite the drama queen, congrats on your victory, you were just dying to use the line “program killing loss” when ya could.

.-.
As fans we have the right to react to bad losses as we see fit. Still, have to say that if you are treating certain games as referendums on the team and the program (whether win or loss), you are asking to be miserable. What was a better experience as a fan: watching today's game, or last year's road opener v Maryland? Yes today was disappointing, but you can't bail after week 2 and call yourself a true fan. And if you are interested in big picture, and you are claiming that the program hasn't progressed substantially under Mora (and Sammis) then I'd question your judgment.

We were way more talented than them. It's dumbfounding that we managed to lose this one

You can not design a more “don’t play scared to lose” situation than we are in. We aren’t in a conference. We aren’t in the P4. And we have everything to gain with these types of wins and not much at all to lose. Instead of a gauntlet of a schedule, we have like 3-4 games where we should just let it fly.

And yet they are still petrified to coach to win in these situations. And quite frankly on offense they are petrified to make the plays necessary.

This one hurt. During that 13 year stretch when we were really bad that was expected. Today’s game would’ve been such a getting over the hump moment. Three touchdowns given up on the last three possessions is tough. They showed heart to come back to tie it, but it never should’ve gotten that far. Still have a whole season in front of us, and if we can against the G6 opponents on the schedule will be in good shape.

If in the 4th, we were only going to throw off play action, I would rather see Evers in the game. We needed first downs and having a QB who could tuck it and keep the chains moving a few times is all we needed. Maybe a tough spot to put him in, but he's a veteran too. Should be able to come in and close the game.

Badda Bing Badda Boom! At least three times today there where 10 / 15 yards of running room when only 5 were needed for a run and slide for a first down. Why no quest for a replay on the last TD that came down in front of the pylon not beyond?
I may have missed it but I thought it was a tad short. Once again ACC officials would never agree. 😉
there were many things that they missed, especially holding against Syracuse, which was pretty evident 2nd half - guess that was their strategy. Nope, they swallowed their whistles.

Both suck but for different reasons. Neither one is a better experience unless we’re counting “almost had ‘em”.

Now maybe if we had taken #1 ranked tOSU to overtime, I would agree that it was still great to experience even with an L.

We have to stop playing like we’re desperate to get into the P4, and start playing like we’re already there.

I think the coaching staff will learn from this one and prep differently for the rest of the season.

As an Independent in this era of rising costs and the P2 trying hard to choke everyone out we shouldn’t live to fight another day because there may not be one.

We basically played entire second half hoping they would never make a play. The drive/play calling after the k terception was particularly painful as well as after missed FG. They basically were like a boxer on their last legs about 7 different times and we let thme off the hook without the knockout.

Even though that loss was a bit of a heartbreaker, game was an instant classic. I can never be too upset about endings like this, absolute cinema
First off it was beyond a heartbreaker. Secondly, I’m sick of being in “instant classics” with Syracuse and being on the wrong end of them. Between this and MSG, I’m good. (Sorry if posted before, I’m not reading the first 200 posts)

Amen. Sorry guys, the way Syracuse played, we should have won that game by 20. Our offense dropped the ball, figuratively and literally. We had them booing their team in their own house. We let them hang around when we should have buried them.

Exactly. Joe does not like to run. It’s zippin’ it Nolan Ryan style or bust

This was a game to win and UConn coaching staff gave it away with playing not to lose and did just that.

I don't think that's true. We were ahead and abandoned the running game. And Brown had (what) two carries in the second half? And running the ball would have moved the clock. Our play calling slowed the game down.

This is one game where playing not to lose. --- running the ball, probably gets us the W.

I don't agree on this one. This was complete coaching malpractice.

Sitting back on miniscule 11 point lead is a shocking decision.
Sitting on the lead would mean running. We should have done more running in the third and forth quarters.

After the 2ND half field goal

3 and out R, P, P

3 and out P, R, P

5 and out P, R, P, P

6 and out P, R, P, R, P, P

4TH Quarter

3 and out P, R, P

3 and out P, R, P

After this we started favoring the run. We were not sitting on the ball or playing to not to lose. We ran 7 times, we threw 15 times. We were throwing and stopping the clock.

Too much complacency and ineffective drives.

A couple times we threw on third and short and it didn’t work.

We were in 4 down territory and a decent run would have set up 4th and short, but they threw deep?!?. There were so many times I was saying “what are we doing?”

We are not that good. Too bad, needed a scalp like this.
No offense but this is a stupid post . Like it or not Syracuse is a power 4 conference team with at least 10 times the resources UConn has. That being said we are closing the gap big time

From a football guy...albeit one not invested in UConn...what a game ! The most cardiac final minute of regulation that I can remember....Technically a loss...but UConn did a terrific job...I wish that both teams could get a W for this one...they played equally....Good job, Huskies.

This one hurt. You just knew once we couldn’t move the ball in the 2H they were going to come back. Our defense was left hanging on the field for far too long.

Play calling aside, because that was awful, key play makers failed to make the plays that were actually good play calls. Joe was exposed, lots of drops, and our run game was smothered in the 2H. I don’t want to say demoralizing, but man that sucked.

Better hope we learn from this and rip off some wins.

eh he would have gotten concussed on the first designed run. i didn't miss him today.
