Artest probably confused $3,500 for $35K. And I'm pretty sure you can't even bet $35K in a Vegas casino without them doing a background check on you or something. For places to accept a bet of $10K or more, you will need to be interviewed by the sports book director or some higher up.

Pretty sure the people who approached him were from his neighborhood and weren't going through Vegas. There are wise guys in this area who accept 6 figure bets

You're right, but winning a bet like that in the streets is dangerous. Some guys would rather whack a 100K winner than pay up. Anyone recall The Sopranos season where Tony got into betting big time and was nervous about getting offed when he won a bunch? I'd rather not mess with that.
