Sunday (3/24) games: NCAA 2nd round

I watched them get thumped by a pretty bad Arizona team and was not nearly impressed. They beat Oregon State twice, Cal once, and K-State twice. Not that impressive a resume.
You don't impress easily. Maybe you'll be impressed after their next victory in the Moda Center?

If I remember correctly, Oregon outscored is in the paint and out rebounded us. I think we lost the game on the defensive end. There are times when you can't play straight up man to man and run a full court press. The defense just wasn't working, but we never tried anything different.

We will see what happens if we play them again. It will depend on McCowan. Vic has shown he is willing to switch up defenses and call off the full court press since that time.

Agreed, it was a defensive break down throughout the game that cost MSU. They simply couldn't defend the pick and roll. Cazorla ate them alive and Hebard did plenty of damage too. And Ionescu hit about 100 FTs, but she couldn't hit anything from the field.

That was a rivalry game that ASU has dominated for years. UA owed them quite a bit of payback. They are not a "pretty bad" team, I'd say they are about average. They do happen to have one of the most dynamic scorers in the country in McDonald. And they were playing inspired, nasty defense in that game.

That's basically it. This team has really surprised me because I thought they would be an average offensive team, but they struggle on defense. I think some of it's because we have two players that have never been in the program before.

If we end up playing Oregon again, I expect it to be a battle. I probably won't even watch it because I get so nervous when we play any high stakes games. It took me about 6 months to watch our NC game against ND last year.

I'll simply say that ASU is a very good, well coached team and I expect an intense, rough game. I think Mississippi State is the better team and will win, but won't be surprised if it's close. An upset is certainly possible.

.-.
Those two teams are a LONG distance apart. Pretty interesting that they've played that many times. Was that 4-0 this season or all-time?

I took it to mean all-time. The neat thing about the NCAAT is that often, matchups are between teams that haven't played each other in a long time, never or just sporadically. NC State's showdown with Kentucky tonight will be the first meeting between the schools since 1995.

Yeah, I thought I heard them say that was the first time our women had played Clemson. Seems that they would have met before at some point in a regular season tournament or something.

For the “gauntlet” the ACC is, they only have three teams in the Sweet 16, the same as the SEC and potentially two less than the Pac-12 if Stanford takes down BYU.
