I think it confirms that the students in question have the maturity of a 7 year old

why the hell are you booing the football coach in a setting like that unless he's 1-11 or he's letting a child predator hang around showers. Sometimes its better to just shut up if you don't have anything nice to say. For his warts, and he does have some, he's proving to be a pretty good recruiter when the football team is at it's weakest moment regarding conf. realigment. The kids he brought in are pretty damn good.

Embarassing.

I just read it again and this kid is so over the top with this article that he might need an ass-kicking, preferably when he's at Huskies trying to hit on some girl and a football player walks in.

Keep in mind that just because you write for the student newspaper (or bleacher report for that matter), it doesn't mean you're a good writer. It just means you want to write and want people to read what you write.

In an athletic world driven by college football, this is exactly the opposite of what the school needs. Just about anywhere else in the country, football is immensely popular, but here in Connecticut, it is met with skepticism and laughter. Whether it’s deserved or not is another question, but the fact remains that it’s far from ideal.

You know what this athletic world needs? No stupid students who truly believe the crap this kid writes. I have a hard time believing that the 38,000+ fans that attended UConn games each game truly believe that UConn football is a laughingstock. This kid is a plague and should be dismissed from the Daily Campus. If I was the chief editor I'd can the kid in a heartbeat. There's no need for an article like this.

Point this bit*ch back to the kitchen. She knows less about being a journalist than she does about football.

"No, they didn’t just laugh, they cackled. In fact, a few of my friends among the crowd nearly had tears in their eyes from bellowing so hard."

The is that?

I want this kid to have the stones to print off a copy of what he just wrote and walk into Shenkman with it. If he feels he needs to wear his superhero headband to man up and do it, that's fine. Whatever works.

It is impossible to believe that anyone who could even fathom themselves a UConn fan could possibly write that.

I agree with this sentiment, but I've actually thought the same thing about a few things you've posted.

And honestly, there's probably at least 10 people who have thought the same thing about things I've posted.

So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Eh, I don't know, the kid is saying that is the student perception of the team at the school. Maybe it is. The student section at games hasn't exactly distinguished itself at games with a few exceptions.

Make him eat his words P. Go out there and win big this year.

Came here to see what reaction would be to this story. But first: really, can we stop praising recruits that none of us have seen? Somebody put a few extra stars next to their name. Big whoop. Talk to me in five years. PP was handed a program that "had some warts" but shouldn't have been 10-14 the last two seasons. If we're going to wait around for 'his kids' to develop then he better skip the next few women's national title celebrations (which it appears there will be a couple) because he'll hear a lot worse.

The appropriateness of the students' reaction is debatable, but remember, PP makes $1.6 million a year with a sweet buyout and is underperforming. This isn't Pop Warner. He can afford to buy a thick skin. Think of it this way: I can easily picture Rich Rodriguez at Mich. or Charlie Weis at ND being greeted in a similar way on campus in the springs before their tenures were ending. Our students, for all their warts, have higher expectations than 10-14.

The kid writer might be a buffoon, but the joke, sadly, was on UConn when it let Jeff Hathaway & Larry McHugh hire Randy's successor.

I would contend it's very different.

I don't think PP should have been hired and I don't think he should be coaching the team. I would tell that to him to his face, but I respect the man and would love to be proven wrong.

This writer is the perfect example of what I hate about a percentage of our fanbase. Be it football, men's basketball or women's basketball fans - some thrive on the failures of the programs they don't support.

I admit I am frustrated with the football coaching staff, and have been quite vocal about it. If you are talking about the Lagow stuff, I'm aware of that opinion but disagree. If it makes anyone feel better Lagow senior and I are Kool and the Gang.

People booing because he's disappointed sure. What he described as the reaction to the concept of a winning season is just moronic.

Really saying PP is preparing for a winning season brings laughter to the point of tears?

Yeah we got you students - you are too cool to support the team unless it's good. Congrats. You really win by mocking your school's football program.

Fishy wasn't kidding with the round boy comment.

It was kind of a generic insult - I actually regret it now that I've seen him and he's a little overweight.

I don't mind calling a college kid a duck*ing idiot, because they tend to be at that age, but making fun of the way he looks is out of line.

I won't delete it because I have to own up to it, but I am sincerely apologetic for the 'round boy' crack.

The duck*ing article is horse crap, though - I'm sure he wrote it to curry favor with some jackass internet blog editor or whoever. Grow up, kid - and don't go into sportswriting unless starving to death is on your bucket list.

Can we stop acting like Edsall left PP the keys to a Masarati?
And you don't need to look at stars to see that at least locally PP is doing a much better job of keeping local talent here than Edsall did.
On the negative side is DeLeone, dear god I agree. But it wasn't PP's fault that his kicker missed 4 FGs against Temple.
I say these things as someone who was shocked and dismayed when PP was hired, believe me. i'm not a superfan.

Anyway, regarding booing him at an event to celebrate the women's hoops team, maybe I'm getting softer as I grow older, but it's not necessary. Boo him at a football game, fine. rip him in the BY, fine. But not at today's event.
