Stewie ticked off at Syracuse?

According to the article, Morgan thinks so too.

I like Greg Doyel's conclusion: UConn won by 29.

I love the interview (included in that article) with Layshia Clarendon. I'm very impressed by her.

.-.
I don't think Coach Q thought it all the way through. I hope he regrets his decision not to play UConn big time tonight. It certainly didn't hurt Texas Christian to play UConn.

Live and learn....

It's a reach as a story but writers are always looking for a different angle..

That said, Doyel notoriously flames fan bases for "click bait." I typically avoid him, but he got me with this story.

Statistics show that teams that want to beat UConn play them more than once a year. Seeing them for the first time is tough - the defense and athleticism. Had Syracuse played UConn this year and lost the experience going into tonight would be huge. Also I seem to remember Syracuse did play a home game the same night as UConn played at Colgate and Colgate had a much bigger crowd show up. The Carrier Dome would have had really good attendance if UConn had played there - bottom line they lost out.

"Click Bait' pure and simple!! Does anyone truly believe that with the career Breanna Stewart has achieved and what she is on the precipice of achieving, that she really cares about a December game?

Pretty weak deflection on Q's part if you ask me: 'We schedule two years out". Two years ago Stewie was the NPOY and a sophomore not some unknown entity. Coppin State was on your radar and UCONN & Stewie wasn't? Come on man!

In her very own words she cares: "It would have been really nice to play at home, in the Dome, it’s five minutes away from my house. But when it didn’t happen, there’s not a lot you can do about that. It sucked."

Alternatively - what was the Uconn office doing not lining up a series with Syracuse 3-4 years ago ... did they not think Stewart would graduate?!! Looks like they dropped the ball. Maybe we should send a blast in their direction!

It's a good thing they didn't line up a home game for DeJanae Boykin, or Sadie Edwards for that matter. I'm pretty sure it's SOP to wait until Senior Year to line up these games.

I'd hardly blame Uconn for dropping the ball... When is a game schedule released for the upcoming year? In the summer correct? So Syracuse posts their schedule two years in advance? Unlikely... Concessions are made all the time... Maryland agreed to play in the Maggie Dixon Classic at the last minute... So it comes down to willingness...

There is a huge difference between scheduling the exact date of games and scheduling a series with a school. Uconn has scheduled Baylor for a game in the 2016-17 season somewhere in CT at some time, and a return game I believe in the 2018-19 season at Baylor three years out. We have a two year contract with TX, and I believe a four year one with one of the other schools. The conference schedule isn't worked out until August usually so they cannot 'publish' a schedule until that is completed - and most schools use the same facility for MBB, WBB, and often other sports and other non-sporting events.
It is completely understandable if Syracuse or any other program has committed to 'x' number of OOC games two years in advance - they may have a few available slots still to be filled 16-18 months in advance, and even 6 months in advance they may be filling in a slot - but by that time there may only be a few available dates into which they can schedule a team and matching those dates with another program that also has only a few windows in their schedule may be an issue.

Specific to this year - Uconn actually screwed up in their scheduling because they had committed to too many games (28) to be able to schedule an in-season tournament - they actually went back to a couple of schools they had scheduled to see if they could defer that scheduled game a year, or alternatively get that school to change the game to a tournament that they would both go to - none of the schools were able to accommodate that change so this year we are playing 38 games (they added another single game to the regular season to get up to 29) instead of what has become typical, a 30 or 31 game regular season and with post season runs a 39 or 40 game season.

Now that's mind boggling isn't it?

Thanks...
So she said it sucked and she would have liked to play at home, that doesn't mean she's making this a revenge thing. They beat Colgate and she probably thought no more about until Syracuse made the FF. No one would be mentioning this otherwise.

Coach Q is trying to build his program. Scheduling at big schools is not as easy as one thinks depending on who owns or controls the desired venue. I don't blame him for not wanting to jump through too many hoops or make waves just to accommodate a random team from another conference's last minute request to play just so said random team's star player can play in front of her hometown crowd.

I don't care about any of these sub plots... Lets get to the game already :) Start the ballet :P

Putting butts in seats for a game with the three-time defending national champions is a good step in building a program. You expose your players to the #1 team. You expose a lot more fans to your team. Plus, there's a nice payday for the return trip.

Also, building good relations with another school's coaching staff can't hurt.

And bring in 10,000 fans? More than all the other homes games combined? Yeah, I guess you're right, it's not worth it....

I sure hope she is a little ticked off.....................A little extra motivation won't hurt tonight.

Again it may not be entirely in his control. I think a lot of people here have a very simplified idea of how a schedule is put together. I can totally buy that it just wasn't going to work on short notice. Plus not every coach wants to run his team through the meat grinder of playing UConn. Not every coach agrees with our philosophy that everyone should want to play us whenever Geno picks up the phone.

May I remind you all that revenge (be it ever so sweet) is a dish best served ............................chilled. Once Breanna and her mates take care of this little matter, she can put a nice little bow on this season, and her career at UConn. Hollywood could not have thought of a better script for her and UConn teammates to end the season, than at the expense of Syracuse. I think the adage "What goes round comes right back around" applies here. Life is sooooo good!

Hey, Coach Q, welcome to the meat grinder, ready or not!

I think Geno has probably been scheduling games longer than Q has and knows that you can't work out anything last minute. He also knew for 4 years that Stewart was going to graduate in 2016. He probably hit up Q last spring or last summer. The question I have is when did he ask Colgate. If that was last minute (and it probably wasn't) then they were HUGE good sports. Well, they were huge good sports whenever it was worked out, imho.
